I love flying and I love WMU, but the program could do alot better. SR20s are great and they look cool but they are one of the worst choices for getting ratings...Western says that grads will be better prepared to make the transition when they fly for a company...BS. They will just have less money. I'd love to see students learning basic stick and rudder flying than learning how to use a moving map. Give us back our cessnas, wmu.
I have met many wanna-be pilots in Kalamazoo, and Ill I have to say is either you have money or you do not. Internships in this occupation are the worse than most other. It is as plain and simple as that.
Hey is this University really good? I mean like if I already have my PPL and instrument ratings, would I have to take the whole flying course again to fit into THEIR way of flying. Because that's what Embry does, even if you have ur commercial, they'll make you redo all their classes because you weren't taught the Embry way of flying. SO i dnt wana go and spend thousands of bucks on things I already did. SO would I have to do it again? Thanx
Ad1131 i love your videos and i plane to become an airline pilot one day. So are you trying to become an airline pilot to and i'm looking into your school sounds pretty cool
hey bobby1234556676565787... im hoping to either be with an airline or fly corporate, but at this point id take either. wmu's program is great, definitely check it out
just because they're 'obvious' and well known doesn't make them quality. every year we get numerous transfers from all the schools you listed, rarely do you hear about a WMU student leaving. when it comes to the schools of aviation, western's is the hidden jewel amongst big name flops
They are well known because their quality grad pilots consist of a huge percentage of commercial and freight airliners. Just because many WMU students dont transfer doesnt make the program # 1. I'm not saying the program is bad by any means, they just arent the # 1 aviation school and the "outlfy the Air Foce Academy" slogan is far fetched.
While taxiing, the map page is used for increased situational awareness (though it only shows runways, but it's still somewhat useful.) When the aircraft arrives at the run-up area, they can switch to the engine page... Depending where the active runway is relative to the run-up area, the map page should be selected while taxiing to the runway. Personally, I select the engine page once I reach the hold short line.
This thing only gives me 500 characters... I'm not sure how much flight time you have, or what certificates you hold, but you demonstrate very good attention to detail. There are a lot of dead people out there because of botched CRM procedures leaving the Pilots distracted and the aircraft out of control. Good job, you'll do very well in this industry.
I would be telling the co-pilot to keep his hands off the panel during take-off. The last thing a student pilot when operating an aircraft like a Cirrus is a distraction. The pilot is in the right to command discipline in the aircraft.
The Flight Crew in this video maintained a sterile cockpit, and positive exchange of controls were always in use. The proper procedure for take-off in the Cirrus is to have the engine page selected. This allows the
Flight Crew to determine if there is an engine malfunction as soon as possible. I was the Flight Instructor (PIC) on board that aircraft, and I always verbally tell the other Pilot exactly what I am doing when I reach for something to avoid confusion. Basic CRM.
first landing was alittle rough.. second was perfect.. seemed to me they were coming in pretty fast.. when I fly my dad's c-150 the stall buzzer goes off for about 4-5 secs before touchdown
A Cirrus SR-20 and Cessna 150 are two entirely different aircraft with many differences including approach speed and flight characteristics. Both of those landings were text book.

@casj008 that's not accurate. You have to do the "short course" if you come in with your private pilot license.

Well the obvious is Embry Riddle, UND, FIT, and Purdue. Western's program is a good bang for the buck but certainly not the best.

Thanks for the explanation.. Having only flown a Cirrus once, would the engine page be selected before or after run-up?
