Also, some native North Americans had same sex relationships before the influence of Europeans. Plus, just because it hasn't happened before doesn't mean that it shouldn't happen now. I dont believe being a homosexual or bisexual is a sin in itself because then we would need to equate homosexuality with many other behavioural tendencies found in the bible that like homosexuality, is not directly stated as a sin. And he certainly did not, even IF it were 'divinely inspired', the events that transpired in biblical times were an era when most were not literate - even renowned scribes. It has been translated no less than 4 times - from hebrew and aramaic, to greek, to latin, to english, and re-written and copied by hand thousands of times before the invention of word press technology.

I can say as a straight Christian that I have nothing but support for LGBT rights and respect for the pressure pushed down on you. The comment that I posted that was subsequently removed was that God did not write the bible. And he certainly did not, even IF it were 'divinely inspired', the events that transpired in biblical times were an era when most were not literate - even renowned scribes. It has been translated no less than 4 times - from hebrew and aramaic, to greek, to latin, to english, and re-written and copied by hand thousands of times before the invention of word press technology.

For example, we know, according to the fossil records, at the time of the dinosaurs there were no flying birds, yet dinosaurs have hollow bones, some have feathers, among other features they seem to be related to birds. While this is a HUGE sep forward, particularly since the bulk of homophobic Americans have never really sat down to consider what their hate means in the flesh. I venture to say that even the most ardent Tea-bagger (& yes, that's an ironic pun), would cringe at how we are treated in critical care. I would hope that, but the case cited by Obama is horrendously American.
BTW, I still live in exile as an American with a foreign domestic partner. We cannot move to America even though I am from KY!

Gay rights to Marriage has nothing to do with Religion. Marriage has evolved to a legal process. Being married in front of the eyes of God is decision. Being married by law is a legal issue. Everyone deserves to be able to be married not just people who take the bible too seriously.
