Can I ask.. If I got this from the PSN store.. Can I use the analogue sticks? I'm used to using them from Wipeout HD nd don't wanna re-learn steering with the D-pad. Thanks
Honestly I almost never even play today's videogames. The art isn't in how amazing the graphics of a game can be. I still love Wave Race 64 and the first Wipeout and will play them anyday or whatever they sell today. So much fun. Even though I got my PSX back in 1996 I never supported the system much compared to the N64. Worked out well though, because now I'm getting back into Playstation and there's this massive library of games I've never played.

LOL funny watching this actually make me more excited to play the HD version on my PS3 in my opinion the handling of your ship in the HD version is totally unbalanced i keep slamming into the walls lol but that's my opinion i guess LMAO!!!!!
can anyone remember a similar game for the psx? I remember it from a demo, it was by some beach-rodes by night, and it was a racing game with these kind of veicheles, and you could crash down the feet of a building, and it would collapse
@zelly2k9 You're talking about Rollcage. You can download it for free on PC now from abandonia. Google abandonia rollcage and you'll see it - top link!
This bring backs so many memories. Trying to fly those bloody things without a stick and only using the pad was a right bastard to learn but worth every moment. Everything about this game (the ships, the tracks, the music, the sound, the commentator, the speed, the logos and artwork) was just cool. Really hope we all get a few more titles in the years to come!
Super Mario Kart layed the groundwork for great games like these. Fortunately, this series is alot funner than the Mario Kart series. Just my opinion though,
I don't even like electronic music. I like heavy metal and rock and roll but this soundtrack is so evil! I miss the dark themes in the wipeout games. They are still great but there no longer gloomy. This is the only racing game that freaked me out! Wipeout is one of my favorite series ever!
@santiainen Lol! You're aloud an opinion. Are you looking for attention from trolls or something? I like this game but everyone is aloud not to. It just sounds silly when you say things similar to"I don't like this game! Ok everyone attack me now!!!". Rofl.
Honestly I love how clear the graphics were on psx, but the floating feelng is greater on the Saturn, it is faster and also its d-pad is infinately better. I use to burn my thumbs with the psx version. I love both versions! but if I was stuck in a cave I'd take Saturns for the smoother ride. Personally
Of all the Wipeout titles they've came up with so far, this one is always gonna be my favorite because of that kindof 'cyber-punk' feel it had. The pilots, the tracks, even the design of the team's logos and colors, all had this "90's sci-fi" feel to it witch has been slowly fading away in it's sequels. Not that the sequels are bad, the "perfect, super-advanced future" of the latest titles is nothing short of amazing, but none of em' will ever compare to the first and most classic.
I agree that his game is intermediate. Using the up and down keys to direct the craft's nose is critical for top speeds and using the airbreaks is a no-no in my book.
Good stuff. I have the complete original from 1995 CD for PSX but it is so worn that I just rebought it for the playstation Network on the PS3. I can put down some crazy times in this game as I used to over play it before I moved onto Wipeout 1097/XL.
fuckin love this game...i aint a gamer or anything just had it since i was like 8 and it just never gets old!....this guy aint tht good tho!...he fucks up a bit in the 2nd level...like u have to be be beatin the top redocd by over 10 seconds in every level haha thts a bit cocky sorry ...but whata game!
I got this game included with the original Playstation for my 14th birthday. My 26th is approaching and this particular game still is a crucial part of my "vintage" gaming. One of the few examples of a game that can stand the test of time; WipEout had incredible graphics and a hell of a soundtrack.
I agree. I mean, fair enough, you can satisfy your need for speed and play Wipeout 64 on the Project64 emulator, but it's not the same as playing it on the actual 64...
me to for 11 years!, the saturns d-pad and game speed are better. playing the psx one a while ago after all that time on the saturn I can clearly see the psx version has way! smoother graphics and resolution, the music and sounds ecco in the tunnels, the shield looks beautiful not like a rainbow net. The glitchs are less, it has 2 player and more advanced lighting effects. saturn is no:1, but I know the psx wins this time, unfortunatly buy quite a bit
This brings me back to Christmas of 96....Fine memories. It was great that the CD too was also a soundtrack....Im still trying to find it but luckly i already downloaded to my PC
chaosruins, you legend, that video brings back really fond memories, that game raised the bar, and was a wonderful experience. currently playing wipeout 3 and crashing all over the place with icaras on rapier :P

Well done, I use AG systems ships too! Such a great game, and such a difficult game too... I've always managed to get the first place on every tracks, except Silverstar... I could never win this one and always used my 3 chances of qualification on it...
... And that's only the Venom Class!! The Rapier Class is a lot harder!!
WO1 was one of the first games I played on the PS1 and one of the reasons I got my own PS1. WO1's graphics still hold up today in my opinion. So smooth and so many colors. Awesome! I often still listen to the soundtrack while working on the computer. Best racer ever!
Only played Wipeout Pure and Pulse, even though this is way older then both of them. Looks a lot more fun. Epic soundtrack too.

I too remember all too well the days playing WipeOut. It was indeed a top notch title.
But you cannot compare the game with contemporary titles. It's like comparing apples and pears.
You were happy with it then and that's all that matters. :-)
Personally, I've been gaming since the Commodore 64 era (now I prefer PS3) and indeed, games have changed dramatically over the years.
Right now, I'm enjoying WipeOut HD/Fury. Thank you Sony and those hackers, for free games!
