My favorite thing about guitar players like Emppu Vuorinen and Mikael Akerfeldt is they play with feeling over flash every time they solo.Ive never heard a solo theyve done where it feels like it goes on to long or theres too many for one song or they are just being flashy,its all about playing with feeling.

Just because Nightwish's songs don't have him playing super-shred death metal solos or some ManowaR solo stuff doesn't mean he couldn't hang with the best and do it if he had to. He can. In fact there ARE some leads in Nighwish songs that have wicked fast parts (ie ending of Gethsemane).

@NiggerAnus This is so true, that said though, he kinda has to be really on his game as far as melodic construction and composition because he has to keep it up to snuff with Tuomas's writing with his really super well composed melodic writing, nothing less than picking just the right notes to play but make them over the top for NW's over the top powerfull sounds takes some serious skill in the melodic control department, and Emppu comes through with flying colors. He can shred though too

Listen to "Over the hills and far away" there are a fast Solo of emppu. You also can listen to some of the wishmaster songs, there are also fast guitar parts. But i can't understand why a good solo must be fast! I realy like emppus style.

hmm, I used a marshallJCM800 preset with presence(max.),treble(max.),ba­ss(1/2),middle(3/4),drive/gain­(max) along with a procoRat(distortionpedal) preset and no reverb, I don't know if I helped you know but you can always ask me something :D

Its a modified Horizon, actually. It's the ESP EV-FIN Signature, his own customized guitar. And the one you hear in that background song is not even an ESP. It's the Washburn CS-780, which he was using before he had a contract from ESP.
