dude, totally miss the Austin music scene from the early and mid 90s!! not close to the same now. Black Cat was awesome!! Would go there three nights in a row often for Ugly Americans, Little Sister and Soul Hat. Good times!
I actually saw these cats back in '96 opening for Leftover Salmon in Atlanta and while it wasn't the perfect audience for them, they killed and I bought "Stereophonic Spanish Fly" right after the show. Great album and great live band!
"Blow the roof off!" and "Take the house down!" definitely applied to their shows in the nineties. I've seen shows at the Black Cat where I thought things were literally going to fall apart from the energy, of the people and the music. Not to mention the wet pussy factor for during-show snatch grabs and post-show alley fucking! When you're being rattled with pulsating funk, got each hand upskirt buried in sopping twat, and are surrounded by a thousand rabid and chanting fans - that's hot!
