No doubt the most useful skill as job searcher would be as a master hypnotist; go to bank for one on one interview with bank president for a janitor position and then hypnonize them into being janitor and you becoming bank president or I guess you could skip the job thing and just hypnonize them into getting you a bag of money and signing statement for. the #1 mistake at interview is wearing t-shirt with "I like you so much I'm gonna kill you last" written on it.
I live in England. I am quite well qualified with lots of experience. I got two knock backs today. One of them was for a company I really wanted to work for - I had an interview but did not make it to the final selection and I'm genuinely gutted! I have applied for 65 jobs over the last 5 months all of which are within my skill range (some way below!). I have had my Resume' reviewed, got tips, registered with agencies/ job sites, done everything I can think of - I just can't get a break!!!
Hopefully you're working by now since this video was made in 2007.... However...If you need a job, I would like to invite you to get my FREE e-book "GET A GREAT JOB FAST!" It's a new century and a new job hunting dynamic. Lots of free tools and tips to get you working quickly. Got a very good review last weekend from LivingOnADime (dot) com. Best wishes in your search.
I was told to start a blog. If it's well written and you get readers, it's good for the resume. Shows your writing and comp skills I suppose, and you can apply the blog to any topic related to a job you might want. That's all I got, good luck all
Today's job market sucks ass. I'm 23 and I just graduated from udel, and every job requires years of experience. Been searching non stop for almost the past two weeks, sent out about 15 apps (although a lot were through those online job sites which I don't think are always reliable). It's a fuckin joke lol I want to just do music, but we all know where that will put me...at least at first if that's all I do.
One thing... I'm trying to get some form of a writing or documentation job, and I was
I've been unemployed for about a year straight in 2009. I managed to land a job in telemarketing for about 2 week, suddenly I get terminated for sucking at the job.
December of 2009 I've managed to land a job as a Security Guard from Securitas Canada. Best I've managed with them is 24 hour weekends at a Condo. I guess thats better then alot of people situation in today market but still living on your own sucks with that budget.
Wear suit and tie ? Be positive, confident... be annoying by searching for job often in the same business, place ? Make a portfolio or presentation ? Use an "inteligent" english ? Keep smiling ? jokes ?
Or... tell you what... set up your own business... I know, its not that easy, but still another option.
Change your appearance to make it more suitable to the business you are applying. Go for job hunting with a nice looking lady to get a good impression ? Let me know if it helps
I cant get job too... Im 19, Not trying to make me better than I am but... Ok... Im a foreigner in the UK, I speak between very good and fluent english with nearly no spelling mistakes when I write. I am positive, I dont look ugly, Im not fat either. People who find difficult to talk about e.g. what they have done last week in their spare ve got jobs. And they have not even got properly education... but they ve got job.
With a 4.0 GPA, you're way too smart to work at a gas station. Employers don't want to hire people who are overqualified, because they know that they'll leave as soon as the economy picks up.
try now, i think there are more jobs cause students went back to school... and just keep trying. I have 3 degrees and work at Kohl's woo hoo for me, 8 bucks an hour and 20 hours a week, oh yay, that was worth the 50,000 i spent.
He hasn't any luck yet? LOL Dude your cracking me up, get off your computer and go work somewhere. That's how you get it. Radio Shack might be a step up if you assert yourself and walk in. Show them a high level of energy in an interaction to lead to an interview. Not everybody yields to the rule of waiting for the call, dude. Fucking assert yourself and make them know your going to work hard for the company. Keep talking and calling them, stop waiting.
I am in training with another company for a 100K level account manager of broadband business networks after working at Best Buy for four years. That's how you get a job, you start buy taking shit until your qualified for the career job. Hold it for a long time to develope skills.
Two jobs looks crapy if it does not match with the objective. I do not care how hard you worked, or how qualified you think you might be, look at what I have and I only make 20-28K per year. The trick is to buy a house with the job you hold for over two years, then work into higher positions that are in the field. Also, we both should consider going back to school. I am telling you this from my own experience, I am 24, no girlfriend, and I have had a long history of depression too. You look it.
Looking for jobs is the wrong attitude, look for a career by holding jobs a number of years son. I have perfect attendance in highschool, two AA degrees, four years of college, technology program certificate, college teaching leadership, five years technology sales experience of products and services, and a year of IT work as a territory level technician within the county school system. I am qualified for outside sales positions and have loads of skills
Yeah they are not hiring you b/c they don't want to have to pay you more. Also, the gas station reply letter was just a standard reply!! OMG you barely have been job hunting!
Sorry guys, it took me 426 resumes to get 7 job offers (all crap) and one decent job offer which I chose to keep. One year's worth of applying. The economy just sucks if you are looking for something other than retail. Don't give up though.
Yea... I'm a recent college grad that has been on the job hunt FOR OVER A YEAR. Most of the companies that I have applied to never sent anything more than an automated response saying they got my resume. Thank God I can live at my mom's house or else I would be shit out of luck. The thing about starting your own business is that YOU REALLY DO NEED MONEY TO EARN MONEY. Job hunting sucks!!!!!!!!!
hey man i know where you coming from i'm a recent college grad and i have had NOO luck finding a job its been almost a month now .. fuck why is it that companies don't hire pplz that match wat they are looking for i think "idrive300" has the right idea of starting ur own business but hey man just wanted to let you know ur not the only one u know we all struggle to get our foot out the door but i wish you an enormous amount of luck man stay safe.
Yeah dude, seriously. JOB = Legalized Slavery. They tell you where to be, when to be there, and pretty much control your life based upon what the job pays. They can fire you at the drop of a hat too. being in business for yourself is the way to go--employee = average and ordinary.
well i can start off by saying you look like a douchebag..clean up your look

Job searching blows.
I tried applying to K Mart & they said they've decided to pursue better candidates.
I spent much of this week applying for jobs since my last temp assignment (which lasted 5 months) ended.
I think for most jobs it's not WHAT you know it's WHO you know.
Most jobs available are maybe part time jobs that only pay minimum to $8.00 hourly.
If you want a full time job with benefits at like a plant or something, you're mostly better off going through a temp service.

Asian restaurants may hire non-asian people as bus boys or waiters. That was my last resort and it worked.

Word of advice:
If you're looking for a summer job that you plan on quitting at the end to go back to school, you're out of luck.
They want to hire someone who will stay with them for as long as possible.
However, if you're a college graduate, that's another story...

lol, how the fuck can you be under qualified to work at a gas station, it's just stupid.
Sorabjian 3 years ago 7
Even a gas station requires you to be educated. Especially Sheetz. They pay good money and they expect you to be able to handle it. It's hard work.
