My understanding says you'll have to remove all the harmonics of the fundamental frequency (of human voice in the song) to completly remove the sound.

The problem is, you will have to sweep the complete spectrum. Unfortunately this will kill other intrument's harmonics too.

okay, guys, do a LITTLE research before you bash the vid. This is a SIMULATED CENTER CHANNEL EXTRACTION.

It will NEVER remove ALL of the lead vocal. It essentially uses phase discrimination to cut the vocal; the largest factor of the result is the way in which the original track was recorded. The genre and instrumentation also make a big difference.

You could go in with the healing brush to mitigate these artifacts, or go deeper into the program to clean it up, but it will never be perfect.

How exactly should I tweak the settings? When I apply the Center Channel Extractor it lowers the sound for both the instrumental and Vocals and neither is audible. When I raise the levels it effects the volume of both tracks so it appears not to have any effect at all. Im using Audition 2.0 so maybe its different from yours some how but the interface is exactly the same so I doubt that is the problem.

It only works on certain songs where the guitars/drums are panned left/right and the vocals are straight up center. It works best with rock/metal because guitars are double track left/right and they're not in the center - same with the drums are panned out and vocals are usually right in the middle of a mix.

some tracks you cannot remove vocals, some remove perfect, some remove the vocals,bass and drums, and some just make the track sound stupid, depending on how it was mixed in the studio to start with, most the time vocals are center which makes it easier to remove, if they pan,echo or anything its going to be more harder to remove them, "if they will remove at all" hope this helps!
