I am a fan of Santa Fe RR. I grow up not to far from an AT&SF RR crossing, and back in the 80's and early 90's, you could hear those locomotive for miles. These locomotives today, are too quiet.
The Santa Fe still lives.....on HO scale layouts and in memories. Imagine a modern day Super C intermodal train, 5 GP-60's and 50 TOFC's at 60mph!!! and somewhere in Kansas!!
I don't know, sounds pretty close though. First time I heard it, I thought It might've been singer Lou Rawls, Wish I knew for sure. Perhaps someone will come up with the correct answer.
I could swear I saw a Santa Fe TV ad unveiling one of their bicentennial SD45-2's out of the paint shop. Does anyone else remember this or am I just imagining this?
There was one in 1975- I remember it featured on "Today in Agriculture" a weekly news magazine, was hosted by Bill Allison. It made me want a model of one of those SD45-2's before I even knew what that designation meant. (I was eight at the time) I just wanted a decent Santa Fe model, in the worst way! Lol! Mike in Fresno, Ca.
Great to see a woman engineer get recognition. Great ads. I love Santa Fe, I wish they were still a company themselves. Everytime I see a Warbonnet for BNSF, I get nostalgic. Thanks for posting these.
I wish they would fix up the Warbonnet's that they have. Its sad to see them with the paint all faded and dirty. I wish they would repaint them as Warbonnet's instead of turning them into BNSF pumpkins.
Boy I agree with that 200%! And now, with the pumpkins, they're repainting everything with the new "corporate" logo-something that more aptly belongs on a cheap pair of tennis shoes! I hate that new logo! I not only get nostalgic, but sad every time I drive throughout eastern Fresno County, And now there's hardly a trace of Santa Fe's Visalia Sub. (It was abandoned and sold 15 yrs. ago) . The company who bought all the branches kept the Espee lines- Rickety asHell.. Sad. Mike in Fresno, Ca.
@ATSFMike I know what you mean about the repaints. To hell with the swoosh logo; the cross logo will ALWAYS mean Santa Fe to me! Like Billy Joel used to say, don't waste your money on a new set of speakers, You get more mileage from a cheap pair of sneakers. Peace out!

Adjusted for inflation, 1/2 cent a loaf would be around 1/2 of a nickel today. Still, that's pretty cheap.

Bilingual in Ukrainian Russian; at a time when we still believed the Soviets were out to get us. The ATSF strikes one for Cold War diplomacy.
