its not allocated as ram.. its used as cache/paging, and to answer ArmandsPresents not its not dangerous, windows does this by default.. all he did was to set it manually, i doupt it will make any difference unless he redused it, its normally the same size as the amount of ram you have as the default allocation size.

You do realize that using Page file (RAM) on a HDD is incredibly slow right? HDD's are slow as anything. Tell people to use Readyboost in Vista so they can grab RAM from a flash drive, which is way faster than a HDD. Telling people too bump up the page file size will not speed up your computer at all, especially since Vista and XP will write to Page file automatically if you are running low on RAM.

@gmoiasovghb87fa if you have 4 GB of ram then that's good enough especially on XP If your computer is some what Slow then i recommend getting Eusing Free Registry Cleaner (it's free and it works) and CCleaner and defrag your computer every Week. You can find better defraggers. But i use to have 32bit Version of Xp and did this shit and no difference on speed except that it made it a bit slower.

This is pointless. If you're trying to get more RAM to make your computer faster, then why would you use your HDD? They suck at reading and putting together small files. That is what RAM is for. You're essentially just slowing down your computer if anything.

@Syske28 BS, virtual memory has nothing to do with motherboard. The only reason NOT to give a computer a too large amount of virtual memory is that when there's too much of it, windows will use it much more often than faster internal memory.

Instead of this method using your hard drive, (unless it has 7200 RPM) I recommend using a USB drive. Tone it down to 16 Gigabytes if you have Vista or 7, 4 Gigabytes if you have XP. If you want to disregard my advice and go ahead with that, be prepared to buy a new hard drive. Also: To get from Gigabytes to Megabytes, multiply the amount of Gigabytes by 1024. That's how many are in a megabyte.

Actually, I just plugged in my 3-year old desktop (1gb ram, "integrated video card" = piece of shit) that I've been using as a doorstop for the last two years and tried this, and it boots way faster and programs load way quicker, too. If you're using an old/POS computer, this works pretty good! I usually just use my laptop now, but tried this out of curiosity.

This just makes your swap file larger, if you need more than 2GB of swap file, you should get more memory (Actually if you need to use ANY Swap file) you need more memory caching to the HD for Memory is what we did in the old days when RAM was Expensive, now that RAM is Cheap, Shell out the bucks and get some. newegg or oempcworld for starts.
