Having worked on a college campus I can attest that like Mr. Mason says. Most Muslims are nice. I too believe that those that would strap a bomb on and blow up a building is a small percentage. However, what I don't find is much condemnation from the average Muslim toward those who do blow up buildings. The dilemma America faces with Islam is the same that a loving parent faces with a naughty child. Having worked on a college campus I can attest that like Mr. Mason says. Most Muslims are nice. I too believe that those that would strap a bomb on and blow up a building is a small percentage. However, what I don't find is much condemnation from the average Muslim toward those who do blow up buildings. I am not saying there is none, but the over sense I get is that many moderate Muslims are indifferent at best to the radical fringe.

It's true all men, in matters non spiritual are equal. In a Muslim country however, under Islamic law there are two classes of people are there not? Muslims and non-muslims. Non-muslims have to identify themselves, pay additional taxes and cannot build their houses of worship, i.e. in saudi arabi a church or synagogue is illegal. If someone converts to Judaism they take on 613 Mitzvas(Commandments also translated as connections) With more connections is one not closer to G-d?

In a Muslim country the Muslims have to pay their taxes (called zakah, 2.5% of annual income) and if they don't they will be considered apostates, just as Abu Bakr waged war against a city of Muslims who stopped paying their zakah.
For the non-Muslims the tax they pay is less than zakah, and is compulsory should they wish to live under the protection of the Muslim army without having to serve in the army.

Mohammed made taxing on Muslims illegal. Kuwait almost had an internal revolt a few years back at the suggestion of tax. Christians and Jews were taxed however and taxes were the only reason they were tolerated for centuries....then came oil. They were not needed anymore in countries like Iraq...thus they fled.

The dilemma America faces with Islam is the same that a loving parent faces with a naughty child. When the child misbehaves in the most appalling way the parent may feel inclined to try to give the child more attention and to do what it wants, but this only makes things worse! The correct response is to be firm with the child and to not give it what it wants. If anything it should get even less of what it wants as a response to this bad behaviour.

It's not a case of the muslim 'extremists' being violent. Islam commands its followers to be violent. All of the verses about there being no compulsion in religion etc. were declared no longer valid by Muhammed himself: watch?v=qNxE6c3Y6II
Also, you can tell it's not a small minority of the muslim population that are like this. When you see hatred being preached in front of an audience of muslims they never disagree. When surveys are cast by muslims the tolerant muslims are in the minority.
