Dude, I am not sure where you got this movie, but if you made it, you are beautiful. This video captures some of the more evasive and beautiful spirit of the city. Thank you for this. Do watch HBO "Subway stories" (no, HBO didn't pay me).
who sings this song? makes me reminisce about my life in NYC in 2005!!! very sweet memories...hope to see you one day again and put my feet back down on your turf, Manhattan!!
I really enjoyed this video. To reference some of the other comments, I probably would agree that your video isn't in direct connection with the lyrics of the song, but to that I have this to say: music videos can be interpretive. I applause you for expressing the ideas brought by this tragically beautiful piece of music.
The way I see it, a place where interpretation is not allowed is where "the boring collect" and to them "I mean all disrespect"
I think you've missed the point of the song, which is not so melancholic as it is spiteful towards mediocrity and conformism. Instead of a fridge full of junk food, you should have found a mountain full of coke, or some Warholian male hottie ready to put a question mark above your sexuality. Lou Reed on CPR coming to life only to pull his own plug. That's what the song is about, not some illustrative suburban boredom to accompany the lyrics.
canny cool love it. could have been a little shorter, when u export your finish movie from your editing platform make sure you bring back your out point to the end of your film.
It wisny random, she supposedly wanted to live the dream > (New York), then realized it wisny tht good and the guy gave her the apple resembling New York (aka. the big apple) wis rather big too :D showing how its not tht good after all as he left ;)
great vid, great song, i am going to DJ tonight, in new york city mind u... and i am going to start with this song and then go bananas cuz i can do that...
coming from a nonce like you whos a fucking guru. I live in london, i prefer london, obviously becuase i was brought up in it but new york is a fantastic place. better than any other place ive visted before.
coming from a twat like you who like a dog watches a ball ,but does not even get to touch the ball,at least a dog gets to play with the ball, what a moron.
Possibly one of the best video clips I've seen, worked well throughout, I do have one question though..Is that Screech from Saved by the Bell who wants the photo taken? lol looks like him
This is awesome, and I love that it is set in suburbia, nice irony.
I've never been to NY (live on the other side of the world) but I always hear that people have a love/hate relationship with the city and I think this was a great take on that.
You oughta do a sequel or something now that they've fired Joe Torre (or he quit, whatever) and they're tearing down both Yankee and Shea stadiums. ::shrugs:: Just a thought.
haha, ok man, will do. I want to be the official tool, and will beat you to it. Sorry, didn't know this wasn't the official video. I give you all credit where it's due. As said, see you in a few weeks, hopefully.
amazing song, one of my favs right now. It deserves an amazing video, and this was... just OK. Wasn't terrible. I think I'll make one... see ya in a few weeks.
Absolutely brilliant. And I disagree completely with the previous poster, there's no reason why you should have to subordinate your story to every thematic nuance of the song.
every1 is posting this: this is a true thing that happens! its not a chain letter! its kinda scary at first but it really works!! paste this message into 3 comments and press ALT F4 and your crushes name will appear on the screen!!! its soo wierd! BUT IT'S PATHETIC BECAUSE IT CLOSES YOUR SCREEN.
I will say I think there's something totally ingenious about setting your video in the suburbs. Just insert a scene were you go to the door of someone about to purchase a multi-million dollar condo on the Williamsburg waterfront and punch them in the face instead. Then you've got something!
Ok, I see your point now and I largely agree. There's a nuance to Murphy's lyrics that definitely is not reflected in the plot of the film and that, while think of what the story should be, I had trouble interpreting.
In fact, to say that the video "misses the point" is an apt characterization in that it doesn't necessarily contradict your interpretation (except for maybe the street performer), but it does not directly engage it. I mean, I assume that getting mugged or encountering tourists is clearly not something a New Yorker enjoys...but the video does not address the death of a quirky/engaging "scene" that you describe.
(cont.) In other words, I took it as a lament for when things were actually grimier, when the streets were less safe, when everything was less sanitized--and things were more exciting and fun. Does that make any sense? When you take the point of view that day-to-day adversity is bringing you down, you're kind of joining the opposite team here. It's the adversity that we thrive on and in some weird way protects us.
You're a thoughtful guy, and I'm sorry if my criticism sounded harsh. I enjoyed watching your video. In retrospect, I think there are some very specific complaints in the song that are somewhat invisible to outsiders: the enforcement of useless cabaret laws, the gentrification of neighborhoods, the de-porning of tourist areas, and the death throes of a "scene that doesn't exist" (which in my mind is Williamsburg but could stand for any number of scenes).
Hmmm. I have to give you credit for making a nicely produced video, but you're coming at New York with all these cliches of panhandling, crime, etc. This a very suburban view of New York, and I thought this song was ranting against that point of view rather than those actual stereotypes. In other words, nice effort, but I think you missed the point.
