  • A life searching for the perfect blossom would be a life well spent!

  • Sakura in Nihon-go (Japanese language) means Cherry tree blossoms. Admiring nature is inate to Japanese people. The title "Bushido" actually means 'the way of the warrior', it is infact a living code. In this movie, the Samurai commits 'Hara Kari' (Suicide), to a warrior, Bushido is "Death before disgrace". PERFECT, is'nt it ? ? ? ?

  • When I heard that soundtrack, i feel a peace inside

  • @StebanJorge aw...I feel the same way. It's my meditation sound track. I think the whole movie is a meditation itself, very beautiful and subtle, yet a lot of strenght.

  • Жизнь будет не напрасной если взрастишь внутри такой цветок.

  • @michor10 I didn't know tom was a midget...lol grow some balls little man!

  • Don't you just want to bash the stupid little midget's face in? I mean Tom, the Scientologist (an insult in itself), of course.

  • I'm american, but i started to learn about bushido, and it's definitly a way of life, just like the 10 commandments...

  • @mansonbyslayer so true!

  • Great scene from a great film. Ken Watanabe should have won an Oscar, and Tom Cruise was have a very subtle (properly so) performance.

  • @zenmachinefilms I couldn't agree more. He had such gravitas in a very graceful and likeable way. He was so natural, and seemed full of wisdom. Tom was greate too.

  • Katsumoto is the boss! Brilliant character!

  • i said 23 hours ago, cherry blossoms and i pray when you see them, i meant you sweet. never forget my cherish to you in life. the music and calm of this. when i took this you were shy and we said hello long ago.and now. ive always been in love with u. never forget. that is my honesty you covet so well. never forget precious friend. i mean that,. listen to what i say. and tel me u know.

  • he doesent even need to say it.....

  • life in every breath ... thats is bushido! the way of the warrior!

  • this movie makes me emotional. its soo beautiful to watch and imagine. i wish i could go back in time and shake a samurai's hand after watching this movie.

  • Thanks for uploading this! Check out my new "Bushido: Forest Walls" sample on my channel. I hope to upload a longer version soon. Enjoy!

  • but now you are my friend....

  • Life in every breath.............

  • Japan should be proud of it's honorable heritage.

  • @shiz777 YEs it should be proud, but it is nottt...most of the old culture and religion has almost disappeared. Modernism AND ELECTRONICS ARE THE NEW JAPANS religion and culture. All japanese are leaving their villages are traditional life to the big city, sony , toshiba, toyota is todays japan...this japan in the video has gone forever and will NEVER come back and majority of japanese people have no desire to bring it back.

  • I wish if I was born as a Bushido lifestyle follower Samurai instead of Mcdonalds, KFC cheeseburger eater ... :-(

  • @aahan1 time to put down that cheeseburger and man up! haha Ujio made me say it.

  • moves me to my very soul , if only life was so beautiful x

  • "Life in every breath

    Every cup of tea

    Every life we take"

  • The Haiku he said and the way he said "you are my friend" are just amazing. Filled w/ the true essence of humanity. Yet today we take the word "friend" so easily w/o realizing how back then ppl used to take it with such seriousness.

  • I watch scenes like this and i say, "i understand". But an hour later I go back to my boring life and lose that understanding. I admire the Samurai for retaining that understanding for an entire life time. It's good to know somebody in this world holds on to this nature, because if somebody higher than man was watching, he would be please to know we are not all crazy. There is still honor on earth.

  • @buddacafe man, every time i watch this movie i feel the same way, i feel like I belong. I feel I should follow the way of the samurai because it is pure from heart. when the movie finishes I find myself with tears in my eyes. the honor and discipline they had was unlike any other, though stubborn. but that's what made them who they were. men of honor. this movie is a masterpiece both the topic and music. thank you for your comment, it made my day to know that there's people that think the same.

  • @buddacafe mm thank you for a well said comment, i agree :)

  • @buddacafe u would only understand what he means if u have lived a violent life not a sheltered one bushido can be used its about control and peace emotions are the most powerful thing we have

  • @Stoksie01 Stoksie, no man or woman is free from a violent life.

  • @Stoksie01 Besides, when i say "i understand", it has to do with much more than just 'violent life'. Watch the video several times. Spiritually.

  • @buddacafe I know how you feel. I try my hardest not to forget - it's one of the reasons why, when I went to back to school, I joined my new university's Kendo club. =)

  • @buddacafe

Try to remember that death is your closest companion. If you can remember this, you will not lose your understanding.

  • @buddacafe Beautiful and true words. Thank you for sharing that blessing.

  • YULE BRINNER COME BACK!

  • one of my favorite 1-min scenes of all time

  • Tenkiiu for this scene >.<`

  • this movie makes me put my entire life on halt and think about death

  • ok lol this is going to be a bit of a weird question but what r those flowers growing on the tree in this scene? cause they look nice and i see them alot to do with japanese related stuff.

  • @Bayliss27 haha, no it's a good question....it's a sakura tree or cherry blossom tree....beautiful isn't it??

  • @PrinceTian OK thx for replying and yes i do think that they r beutiful i wish i saw them for real but (i live in the UK so i doubt there r any) XD. But also this isn't exactly related lol but if u havn't checked out this game coming soon its Shogun 2 total war so u should check the trailers out it looks awesome and i hope its as good as this movie was cause this movie was one of the best i have ever seen.

  • @PrinceTian

Katsumoto "The perfect blossom is a rare thing. You could spend your life looking for one, and it would not be a wasted life."

  • @Bayliss27 for sure it's a cherry tree!...but you've got to know, it's not in the background just to make beautiful picture...it's said in Japanese culture that the cherry flower is like a samurai, beautiful, sparking and short lifed...

  • @Bayliss27

Cherry blossoms tree's, you can see them when it's spring in Japan, extreamly beautiful blossoms.

  • @Bayliss27 cherry blossoms and pray when you see them

  • @Bayliss27 Japanese Cherry Trees

  • @Bayliss27 The Sakura tree, also known as the Japanese Cherry Blossom, has throughout Japanese history symbolized the transience of life - exactly what Katsumoto explains in this scene. This transience is essential to the life of the Samurai. If you want to know more about this, the book "Hagakure" written a long time ago by samurai Yamamoto Tsunetomo explains this 'philosophy' in detail. btw I know you posted 9 months ago, I just hope you're still curious :D

  • @Verradonairun lol thx for your response and yes i am always willing to learn something new even if it is a question i posted 9 months ago :)

  • @Verradonairun Earlier in this scene; when Katsumoto mentioned about the perfect cherry blossom, I wondered if there was ever such a thing. Still though; I'd love to see the Sakura trees in Japan all in perfect bloom like Katsumoto did, before he died

  • @sadlobster1

"A perfect blossom is a rare thing...A man could spend his life searching for one and it would not be a wasted life..."

The conclusion Katsumoto reaches at the end "they are all...perfect" symbolizes that the lives of the samurai who died that day were not wasted. This is how I understand the last scene. :)

  • bushido??

  • @98feat97

Bushido means "The way of the warrior", it was the main thing Samurai's followed, you can read more about it in the book "Hagakure".

  • to know life in every breath.....

  • @vortexcito every cup of tea... every life... we take

  • BRO ! This is one of the, if not the best Scene of this Movie ! But its too short, you have to post the WHOLE thing which means at least to start like 20 Secs before this !!!

  • its only for a brief moment in this life that we share our existance with those we love the most it seems, just like these blossems reach the hight of their beauty than fall so is it that death and circumstances in life cause our loved ones to fall all to fast in this world we live.it is why we must live in the moment an to its fullest also quoted" life in every breath" cause life is a fleeting gift.

  • Thanks for not adding music to this like 90% of everyone else...thank you very much for keeping it original.

  • I love Ken Watanabe but I need subtitle to understand what he's saying.

Maybe it's my fault... my English isn't so good T T

  • This was a depressing movie... becuase the cherry blossoms are the epitome of joy and love, but there is bitter and dire moments, making the tastiest yet sourest lemonade... this is the definition of sweet sorrow, you have come so far with pride, and loose it all, yet have the feeling you will meet again, and the cherry blossom is the most spiritual tree in all of life...

  • Inception much?

  • I LOVE THIS MOVIE!!

1 of the best movies ever made!

  • a dear friend tought to me this, I'll thank her forever. 有難う寿枝

  • I wish i knew someone like Katsumoto. He really knows how to put things into perspective.

  • what a great film. this film was very underrated. Tom cruise was great in here. But Ken Watannbe was the real star. i love this film so much.

  • life in every breath...

  • @Migas128 That is.....Bushido. (lol)

  • @88HyBrId619 xD nice pic you got there, its form red^^

    red-pieces love it!^^

  • @Migas128 right on! one of the best songs i've ever heard

  • @88HyBrId619 =)

  • This part of the movie had so much emotion! also the part where the samurais take tom cruise back to the westerners! lol! very good movie!

  • this by far is a better edit than the original one from the movie. the music took me away

  • we find it differcult to understand the eastern philosophy as the western is so different that we can not understand the way of thinking. But i think the message that comes across here is 'life is amazing' and in every moment you must understand that you can die and believe it to enjoy the state of living. If anyone cares to this comment of course. :)

  • every moment

  • @bushidosamurai100 you are completely right... I guess, many people do understand eastern philosophy better, after watching this movie - But others will never recognize, what's meant by the words spoken, never will recognize what discipline and addiction to life, the world and it's creatures mean... They will only see cool fighting scenes and don't understand the deeper scence contained.

  • "When i took this, you were, my enemy"

Tears came to my eyes when i saw this scene

  • @smokingintherain56

Me too. I love the way he says it. It conveys so very much.

  • @smokingintherain56 Tears came to my Eyes through the whole Scene.

  • haha 28-32 sek "dat is bushido" xD

  • this movie is the best

  • Left Leaning Liberals in America believe that "YOU ARE BUSHIDO" ...

  • The Liberals don't like this scene because the liberals of America like the "Samurai" notion of Algren abandoning his command as a U.S. Soldier and joining his enemy.

They can't grasp a warrior class as the Samurai were, and that's why this is not a scene that is highly touted by most Left Leaning Americans.

This scene is clear. The Samurai were warriors. They had a SPIRITUAL side.

Things that don't lend itself to left leaning American politicos

  • If You crossed the Samurai? Or their Spiritual side?

    They sliced you in half.

This is why the Left hates THIS part of the movie.

But are quick to highlight the parts of Algren

  • I think you'll find that the Samurai were wiped out by modern warfare and social progress.

Just like the right to cherry pick the facts, though. Never mind the fact that this film is risible in its inaccuracies. Never mind the fact that the common Japanese people feared the Samurai as bullies, who acted like a sort of Mafioso. Never mind the fact that, under right-wing law, it would be more difficult for Japs to get into the US than under leftist law.

  • @p3rs0nan0ngrata How dare you speak wrongly of the Samurai name you will never understand that the Japanese did not fear the Samurai for nothing but out of respect for them. Do you not see that even now the people of Japan respect them and their ways of being. And it is only because the Samurai did what they did to protect and be loyal to their country , masters and the Emperor. And in no way have they ever been like the Italian Mafias.

  • @latino1samurai

You've never heard of Kurosawa, I see.

Shame you can't travel back and ask the farmers and peasants how they were treated by the Samurai.

  • @p3rs0nan0ngrata i know about certain Samurai who like to pick on the peasants but those were the ones that did truely not master Bushido and made a shame of the Samurai name but as far as I am concerned u are only a poor critic who knows only to criticize others and you should be executed.

  • @latino1samurai lol italian mafias didn't have respect for their enemies... there was no honor in killing them...

in the movie Katsumoto makes this clear to tom cruise... he says "We don't cut the heads off defeated kneeling men" Katsumoto: "The general asked me to help end his life... I must honor to cut off his head" so it other words you must be honored to take someone's life... I doubt the mafia ever thought of that... lol what a loser

  • @Cl053tgR0w3r so basically you just backed up what i was saying to you that in no way could the samurai be like the italian mafia. what is wrong with you? you seem to speak against me yet your words tell me that i am right? of course Samurai were honorable they are something that you could only understand if you truly wanted to out of your heart. compared to the whole population of Japan at the height of their glory there were hundreds of thousands, anywhere you go you see a samurai so there

  • @Cl053tgR0w3r were bound to be a bunch of dishonorable and miserable lowlives who didn't have the guts to fight someone with a weapon by themselves and knew very little about bushido. these are mostly masterless samurai called ronin and the only one i know of who was a great master and still to this day upholds his honor a true fighter is Miyamoto Musashi. that's right that movie has many errors and Katsumoto is really Saigo Takamori but it doesn't miss the fact that the samurai died for honor

  • @latino1samurai ...I wasn't arguing with you... I was agreeing that they're nothing like the mafia v.v

  • @Cl053tgR0w3r oh sorry i thought since you seemed kinda offensive and kalled me a loser or so i thought you did

  • @latino1samurai no I was calling whoever you were talking to a loser

  • @latino1samurai ok i see now please forgive me i had no i had idea you are i different person than that poor ignorant one over there again my apologies

  • The best scene in cinema history. You should have uploaded the entire scene because there was a little bit more but nonetheless, thank you. This scene touches me every time I watch it.

  • @mrbananas88 amen brother. i totally agree with you! what a great, great film!
