Agrippina will help Nero to ascend the throne, just like he sings.
But later he'll become tired of her and will decide to kill her - and she knows it already, look at her crystal tears upon her cheek - and when the murderer will come to finish her she'll say "Stab me in my womb that gave birth to Nero" - the womb he now kisses and blesses.
Astonishing performance.
thanks for posting this, people deserve to see and hear it.
Read some history when you have time, and you will know that he gave orders to kill her - fisrt of all her ship was drowned but she survived, and then Nero sent soldiers to kill her, and when Agrippina saw her murderer with the sword she told him: stab me in the womb (because her womb gave birth to Nero).
Of course it is not shown in the opera, because the libretto deals with earlier times than these.
The best version ever. I adore their acting as much as their superb singing. Just look at their looks and gestures and the deep intense of feeling and knowing of tha dark and bloody background of this operatic story.
we can only hope so. he sure have the range, the talent, and the age range (in terms of appearance in any case) would match the character. Not to mention he's a guy, as the characted is, of course. The question is more about his style of singing maybe producers will get cold feet.
Interestingly Philippe, though officially billed as a counter-tenor, many sopranist and castrati enthusiast consider him a sopranist..his voice sounds like sopranist..he does not sound like a counter tenor at all.
He has the most stunning voice of all the current countertenors around. It's even, wide-ranging, and unique. I heard him in theatre in NYC, and he had no problem filling the house. Oh, and his coloratura and breath control is superb. If I may quip, this aria is sung transposed down a whole step to g minor, at A=415 at that! Methinks that was unnecessary.
Wspaniałe wykonanie. Te głosy to perły całego wykonania.
