I don't know what everyone here is complaining about, the bass was great. So the song didn't sound exactly like the original; the bass added a little more power to the song and blended, in my opinion, great with the group. Just because you heard him over others does not mean that he did a bad job, not everything about singing is about technical proficiency.
i agree with the bass being a little too much, matter of fact if you listen to the original song theres barely any bass...so he kinda ruined this one.
Bass singer is too close. Either that or he needs his mic turned down, or equalized. It's too hollow sounding for a bass. There's... not enough "bass" sound. Perhaps he needs to work on his technique, because his syllables are actually too enunciated. He doesn't blend well enough with everyone else. Then he starts actually singing... That can't happen. Bad arrangement.
Your lead is also holding his mic way too far away from his mouth. Other than that, great work. Seriously.
@ElectricRain0 it would also help if the guy mixing was paying attention to the mix being recorded. but it's probably a board mix (the same sound going to the PA was being recorded) and the bass needed to be really loud. either way, i totally agree with you.
The bass section made a great contribution on the song, but the lead's weak singing diminished the effect. I think if there were two leads, the effect of the song would be greater, but I wonder what the effect would be if the lead was a bass singer as well(or sung with one).
hahahah I LOVE this!!!!! I too am a bass singer, often i hate how we bass singers are sometimes a bit more difficult to hear, but WOW, the bass section did WONDERFUL on this!!! :D
aw mayne :( i loved the sound but the guy you chose to sing the solo is far too weak. this song has to be FELT. not simply sung. if you had chosen someone with a fuller voice i would have been impressed.
DONT READ THIS.There was a old man who had a small dirty house it was in bad shape well his house was the only one on the hill well down the hill where 3 houses the first house had a man named jon who lived there with his pet lemur the second house had a person names sarah with her pet cat and the well the lemur and cat ran away from there houses and went to the old mans house and they died and there owners where killed post this message 20 times befor midnight or the old wise man will kill u
the main vocal is soso...his sound is not thick enough to fight the bass
and the sound of the bass is too loud...covers up the main vocal..therefore sounds a bit funny when the bass became the main vocal during one or two pieces of lyrics
but to be honest, the other singers did a very good job
this video shows one thing: white boys can't sing, sry... proly it sounds ok altogether but still if you compare this vocals with the same number of black vocals well trained, black vocals > white vocals 1000000 times..
no way dude. josh groban has the best voice i have ever heard, and he is white. it has nothing to do with being black or white or asian or mexican or anything. its pure talent. some are blessed with it, some are not. though i will agree that there are more african americans that can actually sing than there are caucasians
I actually disagree with that. Most famous singers have actually been Caucasian. I don't see why it matters though. I think Rohme only posted his/her comment to start a controversy, so it's not important anyway.
i've seen those too.. these guys are better anyway imo. the soloist from the gentlemen looks like he's going to shit or sth and at some point he losses his voice completely
The soloist from William and Mary's "The Gentleman of College" blows this guy away. They aren't even in the same league. Easy for this guy now to lose his voice when he never sings over a whisper. You fail. I wouldn't even sing at a bar with this guy.
This is one of those ridicilous comments where someone who probably doesent even now anything about the thing his/shes talking about and makes compleat fool out of him/herself
yea bass maybe alil close to the mic and the tempo a lil quick for my tast for the song but still i would much rather listen to this version than even the original.lol
I think the problem is that the bass isn't blending either. A lot of the problem with his volume would be solved if he was able to blend in like the rest of the voices were.
It really is tough for bass to go quiet, it actually makes this song tough for acapella because of that very reason. Everyone else is singing soft because it is a soft song. It's really tough for bass to go soft in general.
yeah it is definitely harder to sing low notes loud and strong, higher notes are the louder ones. At least we know that the basses were on and not messing up haha.
Best a cappella version I've heard so far. Lead vocals are a bit soft - Seal sings all the notes (high and low) with a bit more chest voice. It's great, though. the echo is cool at approx. 3:10
I think it's actually up to the rest to be softer and come down to the same if not under the lead vocalist, they need to show more light and shade. He doesn't need to be louder at all, this song is mant to be light n lovely.. Gj though
It could just be the mix, not necessarily the singers' fault. IMO, the lead was off too much, especially on the "BAYYYBAY"... He held the mic too far away as well.
i have to say to embrezar that I think u are correct with the backup singers being too loud However if you look at the soloist how far is the mike from his mouth compared to everyone else he has control of his own volunme but he is unsure of hitting all the notes i would bet
U guys rock this song out AWSOME job Everyone this is an easy song to hit a flat note but you perform it very well btw i think the lead guy looks like neil patrick harris lol
This is very difficult piece because of the major/minor tonal changes and the complex inner rhythms. Perhaps this mix isn't perfect, but its a gem of a performance.
Hell yeah these guys are freaking awesome. You can never have enough bass considering I can only point out one. Good for him! He's amazing. We need more bass' like him.
I take offense to how everybody is going all batshit on the bass. The great part about this rendition is that they used their artistic freedom and interpretation to make it their own. Their choice to use more bass separates them from every other A Cappella group and gives them their own sound.
People shouldn't be whining about 'too much bass' and not being a conformist to every other A Cappella group. People should be praising them for taking their freedom and making a great rendition.
Not bad, but the background singers were too loud, they overshadowed the soloist. Also, the bass was WAY too loud, the bass is there to be an anchor, not to standout. I think if you just corrected the volume issues, this would sound better.
I would have said there is too much bass in the song, but I can't count the number of times I've listened to an a cappella piece and wished I could hear the bass. Very well done guys, your bass section rocks.

Okay, bass guy needs to just be really really quiet on these songs... otherwise best group I've ever heard!!
Bass guy is way too loud anyway... you can't hear the soloist! He needs to be removed because he doesn't work well with the group.
And he shouldn't have had the second part either....
