The problem with Altamont was that big mouthed-Mick revealed too soon the locale of the soon to be free show, enabling 500,000 crazed fans to get in a frenzy, or something along those lines. He wasn't supposed to reveal to the press. I think they had to cancel the original choice of venue and switch to the Altamont race track....

if this is prior to altamont, this vid speaks volumes... Mick called the shots for Altamont, and the shit hit the fan. One big issue was the delay with the music, and now that I see the wankers that he had in charge of the music (or power supply), it's no wonder the $hit hit the fan. "It's 2pm and there's no music!?" Mick knew that would be a problem, and it was.

Jimi did not go to Altamont, the film is from NYC Madison Square Garden backstage before the concert that was filmed for the Gimme Shelter movie. It was on Jimi's last birthday - Nov. 27, 1969.

He didn't go to Altamont because he was in New York that weekend preparing for his Toronto drug bust trial which began on the Monday morning, Dec. 8. He was acquitted of the heroin possession charges at trail, but his lawyers certainly wouldn't have let him attend Altamont just hours before trail began.
