Wow that was one loud audience. I bet he couldn't even hear himself. I was in high school at the time, could someone maybe connect the dots for me, fill me in on how in the world that one little yaaah led to the downfall of his campaign?? I'm guessing it has something to do with fox news but that's just an educated guess.
Also, when you hear the crowd screaming and cheering, he doesn't look nearly as much of an idiot as he does when it's just an excited guy jumping around in front of a crowd of zombies.
Yeah, Teddey Roosevelt was known for making epic speeches. It was kind of refreshing to see an enthusiastic candidate instead of just the same old boring "yes men" we see in politics today. And also this speech is funny, I would rather have had a president that screamed "byah" than have a president that can't even pronounce "nuclear" correctly.
Howard Dean had a good reason to scream: He Got Screwed. He built a huge grassroots organization via the Internet. He went into the Iowa primary as the front runner. Then he got screwed by the Democratic Machine who wanted a "safe" candidate, someone they could trust to maintain the status quo. Sound familiar? Hillary is the "safe" candidate today. A vote for Clinton is a vote for McCain is a vote for Bush. Any way you cut it, the American people lose. SO WHY AREN'T WE SCREAMING???
i don't know why he got such a bad rep for making this speech. i thought it was refreshing that someone was showing real enthusiasm for our country. plus it was kinda funny lol
Howard Dean was the best chance for our country in 2004. Obviously Kerry didn't have what it took to unseat the Republicans. Dean could have won it, in my opinion, and I think we'd be in a better place now. Dean was executed by either the media-as-corporation or by his own party.
Dean just got carried away with himself. He was trying to pretend the defeat was not the devestating blow that it was and went WAY over the top. Of course, Dean has always been prone to speak - or yell - without thinking so this was not totally out of character.
You could hear the"hyaaah" better on tv because of the postion of the microphone for the camera was focused on him so you could here is speech over the crowd, so thats why the "Hyaah" was much louder. My english teacher explained this to my class, he normally talks for about 5 - 10 minutes somedays about whats going on in the and the presidentil candidates and news.
This is an example of the media's revisionist history. By coming in 3rd in Iowa - after being ahead in most polls - Dean's campaign was already finished before "the scream." Since then, the scream was blamed for his downfall b/c it's a better story.
the media did not take him down, howard took himself down. of course the media took something trivial and blew it up (which it typical), but howard knew that ex-ante and should have realized that before the infamous scream. is it unfortunate the media has become so dense? yes. hopefully it will change, but the players of the game have to recognize that.
Okay, maybe some American and support forces but Iraqis? When we leave there they will be slaughtered by far more than anything you may imagine. The innocents, the military, police, name it. It is a terrorist state with us there!
Why haven't we done anything about atrocities in Darfur? Because we can't be perfect. A few mistakes might be made. Lefties will milk those mistakes for all they can,...just like they did in Iraq. That's why we're a little gun shy on this one.
Exqueeze me, we've killed up to half a million Iraqi citizens in the conflict, and many political theorists say that as soon as we leave Iraq we will see many insurgent groups dissolve overnight.
Also, thank God the Blackwater contract hasn't been renewed. The work they do is no better than that of the troops, yet they get paid ten times as much and kill Iraqis for recreation. Lop off their heads and send 'em to Dick Cheney's house.
Dean told Tim Russert "I support the president's War on Terrorism." Dean even went so far as to tell Russert: "I believe that we need a very substantial increase in troops. They don't all have to be American troops. My guess would be that we would need at least 30,000 and 40,000 additional troops."
LOL - Dean was a fucking nut! Thank God he got voted out by the sane electorate.

That's odd, unlike on TV I could hardly hear the Yahhh! Doesn't explain why he was saying Yahhh! in the first place but it's a start.

Howard Dean is a great man. A liberal progressive democrat par excellence.

if Dean had been president, thousands of US soldiers and Iraqis would still be alive today. We probably would have left Iraq already.
