  • you seem a lot older now. maybe it's the grey hair. on the flip side, you also seem happier now

  • Sounds like you should start a company and share you gains equally with your team... you'd be the best boss ever. I'm sure the team would work their asses off for you too.

  • However, let me say this, I think the people that have the money deserve it. For example, a person who invents something, shouldn't they get more money for it than the people they employ? Why should bill gates have to share his wealth with people he employs? HE is the one who created windows, not the person who sells windows.

  • Lazy,

Take no offense? Your harsh words to gratex show that you value people for all the wrong reasons. You should be ashamed.

Does Paris Hilton deserve it? What did she do except get popped out from the belly of her mother?

Bill should share his wealth because its the smart thing to do to maintain a healthy society.

  • Course, the system that allows him to gain such wealth is wrong. But given that its here upon us, of course he should share.

  • When did I once say what i valued? I appreciate that people had to work hard to get the money they have. Where do you think bill gates got his money from? Did he just pick it off a tree? Why is it wrong that bill gates make billions of dollars off something that HE MADE. Next time you have a brilliant invention i want you to give me some of your profit, because thats what should be done right? the money you should rightfully have should be given to other people. WRONG.

  • It is not a single person's job to support others. As for being ashamed, im not.

  • It's not the work force's job to support bill gates' wealth then?

  • You have a disturbing low level of respect for working people, but this is the norm these days, nothing to be upset about.

  • I dont have a disturbing low level of respect for working people at all. The work force isnt working for free, they are paid. Sure they dont make as much money as the officials ceo's and so on but they are paid. So it isnt their JOB but their CHOICE. Bill gates doesnt force people to work for him, people come and apply to work for him by their own choice.

  • who decides who earns how much money?

  • You words to him revealed your values.

Hard work for money is good, but what about Paris Hilton and her like, who get paid bigtime for gettin' popped out the right belly? Support the Estate Tax(what the ignorant call the Death Tax) and lobby for a higher rate of taxation attached to it if you believe in a hard days work...

  • ... Bill doesn't lift a finger for the millions he STILL earns on the decades old invention. Far as he's concerned, he's got a money tree in the yard. But what of the assemblers and packagers who work at least 8 hrs a day for a pittance under dehumanizing conditions?

Is it smart to allow a few to hoard more than they'll ever need at the expense of social stability?

  • ...Do you realize that the US is a powder keg of instability based on the hoarding of the rich? Do you notice the homeless, crime, and the healthcare calamity that leaves over 50million US citizens on the brink of death or the gutter? Do you want a civil and prosperous country free of the threat of unrest? If so, work towards a system that will allow ALL of us to live free from the threat of the gutter.

  • Boohoo?

Bill Gates obviously has the qualities and timing to get where he is. Paris Hilton was living off the wealth of her family. It was earned at some point through some intelligence or good fortune. Why should the people who earn money not have the right to give it to who they want (like Bill Gates to his charitable foundation)?

  • Criticism is always interesting but it is a bit annoying when no alternative is offered.

  • Sad,

    Quit cryin'.

  • Earn is such a noble word for what is, in almost all cases, theft and exploitation. Pointing out one or two cases to prove any point is ..pointless.

  • So what is your point? That some people are lucky or play the game and probably don't deserve their success? Who decides who gets to keep their fortune? Who decides who earned it and who didn't?

I think we just disagree on what consititues nefarious means of acquiring wealth. I don't think building a company where the bottom rung is tough thankless work is wrong. Some people are going to be there, we can't all be big wigs can we?

  • I think you set the bar for what constitutes exploitation at a ridiculously low level. Working a thankless job for little pay is not exploitation it has to do with how much certain labour is worth. I happen to think that the people who come up with ideas should own them and not the people they employ to carry them out. Can you tell me why a suit designer should earn less for the fashion he/she creates than the person who is given the task of making the suit without any creative input?

  • you're talking in very simplistic extremes. We can't all be big wigs, this is very true, but there's a long way to go before this society can be called great... that's what we should be focusing on, not looking for enemies outside our borders.

  • Isn't it rather ridiculous to say that we should focus on one problem and ignore everything else until we have attained the impossible?

By the same argument we should spend nothing on the arts or sporting events until we can deal with some poorly defined problem. What is your goal and when is it achieved?

  • It's ridiculous to focus on unfocusing people from achieving this goal. Once you deal with that problem, it will solve all others. It is the root that needs to be dug out, rather than spending eternity bashing at the twigs.

  • Interesting but I think that you are again falling into the trap of thinking that there is simplicity in this world. That there is one issue which will resolve everything, that there is a clandestine cartel which is holding the people down intentionally. It seems to easy to explain away problems as if they are the fault of someone or some group rather than the emergent properties of complex interactions.

  • If we simply concentrated on building a better society for ourselves and isolated ourselves from the world then our chances of surviving in this world are reduced. It is all good and well building a great society but it is worth nothing if it is vulnerable to destruction.

  • True, but this society will consume itself... so defending it from outside attack seems completely pointless. How does one eternally sustain a consumerist society given that there's limited resources on our planet, and an ever increasing population?

  • Limited resources yes, population can only increase so much however. We will not continue to populate forever, and the earth will not run out of resources, its a seasaw function. If you have an island with foxes and rabbit's, say the foxes multiply faster than the rabbits, that means there will be fewer rabbits for too many foxes, so the foxes will die out, and the rabbits will become the more populated animal.

  • I feel like i've spelt rabbit wrong...oh well... anyways my point is that if humans continue to grow at the rate that we are now, we would overpopulate the world in 100 years or less. The thing is that growth wont happen. As for these monetary issues, i have no problem with saying Paris Hilton doesnt deserve any money she has, but there are people who have worked for their money

  • You say that the rich people are leeches of society, but what about those on welfare? they leech off of tax money. Which brings up another point, Bill Gates and countless rich people pay more in taxes in a year than you'll make in your life time. So they DO contribute to society and their country. As for you saying who are they to control 95% of the wealth and only be 5% of the people...well who are you to tell them they CANT control 95% of the wealth...

  • You'd be surprised at how little tax the wealthy pay as a percentage of their income. Who am I? Hmmm, I'm someone that wants to be free, not someone that wishes to beg for trivial tastes of freedom, for 2 weeks per year, when my master permits me to, of course. Oh but maybe if I show how much I love my slavery my master will reward me with a few weeks more! maybe early retirement!

  • Saddamuel,

The rights of Bill Gates and the extremely wealthy is not the issue. It's the rights of the laborers and extremely poor that are at issue, as it's always been. What is the history of my country and yours if not a history of the progression of social equality, egalitarianism, and the rights of Man? If natural selection occurs in the realm of ideas, then its the idea of equality that seems to be the fittest, as our history shows and as our ancestors decided.

  • Our ancestors set laws to establish our "human" and civil rights. To be human was enough, at least on paper.

The reality though is that it's not enough to be human, one must be a human with monetary wealth to secure not only rights before the courts, but rights to survival itself.

  • Let the wealthy hoard, but first make sure the workers and poor have the same equality of rights, survival, and yes, leisure.

  • yeah, the people who claim that we're oppressing the rich are quite insane.

  • LOVE YA gratex!

  • Are you John Peel re-incarnated?

  • next week im jeremy beadle

  • I am going to assume this video is a response to my comments. After reading them today I see that they were written quite harshley. Please take no offense to what I said. I have a lot of respect for you, and have listened to almost all of your videos. You are not useless or defunct or incabable of doing anything. I did not mean to say that in any way.

  • Corporate culture strips away your humanity. I know cause I worked for some mighty big ones. Each one fired me, not because of poor work, but because of insubordination.

Listen to this, my last employer, a multi-national telecom. gang of pimps and whores, started to receive bomb threats after 911. For a good 2 or 3 months we would evac the building at least twice a month...

  • ...Finally the decision was handed down to not evacuate unless the threat was deemed "credible", afterall, these evacs were cuttin into profits. One day, a manager ran out of his cube and the next thing we knew, his cube and those immediately next to it were taped off, cops all around. Everyone was told to relax and keep workin. Course I felt that I should know what the fuck is goin on 30 feet away from me so I...

  • ...wandered over and found out that the guy received a letter containing white powder. Well I just threw a fit and yelled out "ANTHRAX" as I evaced the building, causing a lot of folks to evac as well.

I got a call that night to pick up my personal belongings the next day. Course it wasn't anthrax. But WTF! how did we know that at the time?

  • Since then, I've worked for myself.

But I gotta get out of los angeles man, this place is killin' me.

  • That's really scary, I've been in a job like that, we had a bomb threat and a gas leak, and on both occasions the building was not evacuated until rumours got around and people walked out by common consensus. In fact, the decision to evacuate the building after the bomb threat was made 10 minutes after the bomb was due to go off. I'll end up making a video about exploitation in the workplace.

  • I'm sorry to hear this G. :(

On bad days I keep telling myself - this too shall pass. There's always tomorrow.

  • tomorrow is only a day away :P

  • Excellent points, Gratex. I heartily agree with you on this. There is a huge decline in the amount of middle class. It seems the gap is growing further between upper and lower class. Yes, politics have a lot to do with advancement. I guess I'm bullheaded....

  • it's a hard life being stubborn :D It's caused me no end of trouble.
