  • Im reading the war memoirs of David lloyd George and what is apparent

is that people were lied to and not told the full truth about this attack.

The C in c Douglas Haig lterally didnt have a clue of the conditions of the ground or what he was asking his troops to do.

Attacking at the enemies strongest point is a nutty idea anyway.

  • @zenoist2 The Germans strongest point was the main part of the Hindenburg line to the south of Ypres. Attacking east from Ypres 12 miles would take them to Roulers which was the major rail hub for the northern German trenches to the coast. Capture Roulers or flatten it with artillery and the German line would crumble.

  • make more videos good song choice iron maiden

  • i love my history yeacher :') she used this song in our lesson :)

  • the 6 dislikes are members of the wermacht

  • The man beside him, who had been through the campaign, replied tonelessly, 'It'sworse further on up.''' - Leon Wolff

  • Dude, I hope you got an A+ as this is xX_Epic_Xx!

  • It's long ago now., But the nature of their predicament, - For the last twenty years I've not worn a poppy, because I can't stand this notion of commemorating "noble sacrifice", this slaughter of ordinary, working people. - which is what it was. I know the young sons of our leaders also suffered . I'm thankful my generation haven't had that foisted upon them. I doubt we'd be deferential enough anymore to get killed because some tosser in charge - from his comfortable HQ, tells us to.

  • @emma5977 Screw the protest of the tossers in charge. Wear a poppy in remembrance of the slaughter of ordinary working people that died as soldiers.

  • It would be better if it were a fucking Chinese, Muslims, Indians, Niger, than Europeans

  • 0:54 is of a bloke in galipoli.

  • Thanks Ian, that was absolutely fantastic. I didn't know Iron Maiden did this song.....loved it ♥♥♥

My great uncle died fight the 3rd battle of Ypres or also called Passchendaele.

  • if you dont mind me asking but for witch side german or british/candian

    sorry for ur loss

  • name of the song ???

  • Iron Maiden - Paschendale

  • i life in pashendale

  • Live* Passchendaele* and where the battle was fought is a memorial, and some parts of it crops. So you can't live where the battle was fought, but i guess you could live close to it.

  • Nice video. Liked the timing with the music.

  • sick

  • Sir Aurthur Currey was a smart man.

  • Where did you find these pictures?

I'd like to use some of these for a visual segment of a project I'm doing.

  • most of these pics arent even of passendaele

  • Give the Video producer a break. Most of the Sheeple watching this would not know the difference.

  • F.U.C.K W.A.R.

  • The cross, does that refer to the crucified soldier? They found out that it's just a legend like the angels of mons or the kadaververwertungsanstalt!

At 4:16 it looks like the movie "a very long engagement"(best wwi movie ever! passchendaele is second and "all quiet on the western front" third best)

    Nice vid btw

  • hehe civil war oh come on what was there 500,000 casualties around that number? i'm saing that you didnt had any wars since you arrived to the scene as the USA (you know 50 states-former english colonies?)anyway war sucks in all views, but sometimes its inevitable

  • I don't know where your from mate, but don't talk about how war is bad and horrid, and then laugh at the casualties of an American only war. Those were men, like any other, who died for what they believe in. All of this happened for reasons that can't be changed, and to talk down to anyone involved in these World changing wars is bitch slapping those brave soldiers in the face. If your British, and it sounds like you are, I can't honestly believe you are discrediting American involvement in WWI.

  • HOLY SHIT the United States was once English colonies! No fucking way!!!!!!!!!!! your a fucking idiot everyone who lives in the states knows that

  • I've read about studies done that only 22% of Americans can tell you that it was an English colony.

  • during the time of ww1 it only began because an assainator from serbia killed the king to be in Austria-hungary,it didnt even envolve britain, germany russia or any other country but sinc they wer alla eithe part of the entante or the alliance they had to fight, and yes you cant say the americans did nothing, they infact finished the war,but took their dam time doing it they only decided to inroll in the dam army in 1918 while the war started 1914.750 000 british and canadian soilder killed not fun

  • Um...it was an Archduke, actually. Archduke Franz Ferdinand, and he was assasinated by a Serbian named Gavrilo Princip. The US entered after the discovery of the Zimmerman telegraph, the sinking of the Lusitania, and the British Blockade. No, it's not fun that many men were killed.

  • yeah very smart in supporting warfare...especially since you didnt had any wars on your soil... ha yanks? its easy to find these things vital when they are happening few bloody thousands of miles away...

  • yeah, because the American Civil War was fought in Africa, right ?

  • I guess you never studied the French/Indian War, The Revolution (maybe that's why you're so hostile toward 'Yanks' since your side lost), or the Mexican/American war, eh? Do some research.

  • I'm fairly certain the Yankees had declared war by the Third Battle of Ypres, however they were not mobolized until March of 1918.

  • Why did you study an iconic Canadian battle in US history? Had the Yanks even bothered to show up to the war by then?

  • we didn't study it...

    we study the great war...

and this was part of world war I...

    good try

  • Ya, Although this was the Canadian Core, US did fight in WW1. So, they obviously have the students study the whole war.

  • @AdventuresofVindalf the Canadians showed up a few days after Great Britain

u Americans showed up late in 1917, we started at the beginning.

same thing in world war 2, we got in first, u guys showed up in 1940

  • @dragonriderX60 yeah for good reason too. We shouldn't have been involved in world war 1 if you ask me. I still love the guys that did go but it wasn't our fight really. You guys were beating the Germans should've let you.

  • You truly can't blame soldiers, they only do what they are ordered to do. Trench warfares were bloody, and often, soldiers wouldn't even die because of the enemy fires, but because of the insalubrity.... 3:40 also marks a very important thing: Mustard gas, very mortal and used by Germans. Great work mate, but can you tell me why there was an Uncle Sam picture...? There was no American in this battle...

  • senfgas hatten nicht nur die deutschen...sie haben damit angefangen!

  • i really don't know why i put that uncle sam photo in there, come to think of it.

  • its sad that 100 years from ww1 were still killing ourselfs in the same bloody trenches of war, war is a shame... it never did anybody any good.dont support any type of violence... go play feckin sports or something

  • we dont fight in trenches anymore tre

the real tragedy of WW! is they were using 18 century tactics with 20th century weapons

  • if war didnt do any good and people didnt give there lifes for you then this world can be so much diffrent... if world war 2 didnt happen ukrainians polish and jewish people would prob still be torched and killed and i prob wouldnt be living in canada cuz my ancestors couldnt leave the country so sometimes war is for a good cause

  • Wars are created by politicians, religious leaders and kings, paid for in blood by the little guy. Lions led by donkeys.

  • dont compare this war to irag 4000 deaths of scandal its a resource war thats something that would happen in the middle ages try not to mention irag in this youtube video avoid personal embaresment

  • okay, when did i mention anything about the Iraq War?

  • great song honor those who died those sick nazi fuc@# no offense to any german now

  • the nazi party was est in 1938 so.. there where no nazis in ww1

  • Nope, it was 1933.

  • learn some history WW1 no Nazis in Germany yet

    not till 1933

  • The Uk and Canada did a fantastic job in Passchendaele. Idk about U.S I don't know to much about american history.

  • And thats an entire war, this was one battle.

Iraq has lost 151,000 in the war. The American media/public has no right to be upset.

  • alright..so today were talking about major battles of WW1, and my history teacher plays this song. im wearing an iron maiden shirt right now, i get up and start headbanging in the history classroom. =D

  • well tell your history teacher to find this video on youtube. Of course, I am assuming that your school system doesn't block it, which most likely i am wrong. anyways keep rockin'. i also give mad props to ur history teacher on a good choice of music.

  • lol ure teacher is awesome then!!!!! and anyway just so you guys should know i think you all got an awesome taste in music!!!

  • great response sommerchs. Your brain has left you at birth I guess?

  • You sick bastard...........................

  • My Grandfather died there

You wouldnt say that to my face

  • how old are you lol

  • you dirty wanker what the hell do you think your saying you nazi bastard,do you know how many men died here, you need sorting out mate your screwed up

  • about sommerchs by the way

  • great vid ian, nice edit, great track, didnt see any generals face down in the mud, just us cannon-fodder,big respect to all who fell...amen.

  • awesome as always!!

  • My great-grandfather, Richard Taylor, was a battalion commander in the Battle of Passchendaele. I never met him, but apparently he was angered at being stuck in a trench. From these images I can certainly tell why, although I'm glad I'll probably never fully understand the horror.

  • yeah im glad that today battles arent fought in those damned bloody trenches!!! we'd have just as many casualties now as back then! but i feel sorry for all the troops who never made it back in WW1. they r our heroes :(

  • Very well done Ian. The pictures and quotes were well choosen and placed, each appropiately convaying each line in the song to bring the point accross to a fuller extent.
