And today, CBS reported about 25% of guns sold to the Mexican Army found their ways into the drugs cartel. That is over 9000 guns belonged to the Mexican Army that are now in the hands of the cartel. There are over 100,000 army soldiers defecting to the cartel bringing with the powerful automatic rifles and grenade launchers. Those are shown in the video but source not mentioned.

That M60 may be made in the US but you can't walk into a gun shop and buy one. They had to get the from a military source. That doesn't neccessarily mean the US army either. It's also used by Honduras, El Salvador and many other nations. Same goes for that M203 grenade launcher on that M16 they show. It's very obvious this military hardware was not bought in US guns shops and taken south so why use those as your prime examples.

@ilest there is a lot of money in alcohol as well. some of my favorite comes from Estado Jalisco in the form of Tequila, but it is a legal trade good. I don't see the cartels fighting for Tequila distribution rights. probably due to the "illogical" thought that tequila is legal.

The law in Mexico is inconsequential, the cartel are not selling the dope to Mexicans, and they do not sell to the rest of the world (all shipments go north).

@ilest Actually you are dismissing one very important fact, if people were able to grow or do whatever they want with marijuana, there would be no need to bring drugs from Mexico nor Canada. In BC Canada, marijuana laws are way too loose, lots of people are growing in their basements and guess what? There's almost no violence related with drugs. It's not of the government's business what the people do with their bodies, the only reason there's violence is cos' it's illegal and that's a fact.

The Mexican cartels are making a lot more money off of coke and heroin these days than weed. Almost 10x more money is made off those drugs than weed now. I mean, weed is practically legal in Cali these days and hardily anybody smokes Mex here but the cartels are still fighting for control of the Tijuana corridor.
