A harem is an anime or manga where there is one protagonist and three or more opposite sex supporting characters. Most animes or mangas that are harems are romantic comedies but also use sexual appeal as part of the story line. ( a good example is Love Hina) Usually a harem is one male and many females but sometimes it can be one female many males this is called a reverse harem. hope that helps.
