If you charge an Awakening before you fight Doppleganger and use that right away, you should be able to beat him; that's how I did it each time I fought him and haven't lost yet.
I dunno. :P I've been trying to use that Lucky Animal Slep-whatever it is. It's supposed to cut its HP in half..but so far I havnt been able to beat him.

you know its damn hard to beat doppleganger. can take many tries. Think the Skeith fight in infection and thats about the difficulty.
