I LOVE Classic R&B music! Lionel did NOT lead the original recording of Brick House that sold MILLIONS of copies of this song for the Commodores. It was their drummer, Walter "Clyde" Orange. People should always fact check & make sure they credit the right artist(s).
Please go to YT and pull the LIVE, original "Brick House" video. Even the person who posted that video didn't recognize the difference between Lionel and someone else singing lead. Peace!
Here's a song I listened to every morning a few yrs ago while receiving radiation treatments at M. D. Anderson hospital, The black and brown nurses and X-ray technicians had the best music....they would ask each patient what song they would like to hear.
sorry I have to say there is NO ONE like Lionel singing this song, or any other song that he and the Commodores put out.. He made it what it is...he makes every song what it is.
@fritzfrau1: The problem with your comment is that Lionel did NOT sing the lead vocal for this song with the Commodores. It was the drummer Walter "Clyde" Orange. Thre's even a video of it here on Youtube...
I was just listening to the remaining members of the commodores do an "updated version" of this on an old Soul Train episode. It didnt cut it. Im glad Lionel stayed true to the original groove.
Walter "Clyde" Orange and Lionel Ritchie altered as lead singers. The original lead singer of this song is Walter Clyde and Lionel Ritchie on Saxophone. Personally like Walter singing on this song much more than Lionel.
@RunawayTrane lionel did what he had to do when he went solo all those yrs ago...as my alltime fave group i was hurt as hell when he left....especially when he never seemed to officially leave...he just kinda drifted into his own projects and never came back....lots of bands -disband- but now, artists realize they can get paid if they reunite....he's already performed with ron lapread and thomas mcclary...its a matter of time b4 they all get together again....i'll be there to see it i hope

@memorysticky Really? I thought it was always Lionel Richie's voice on this song? Who is it on the original recording?
8bobthebuilder 11 months ago
@memorysticky I agree.
YottaSidedDice 10 months ago
@memorysticky yes i agree, Clyde's voice sounds deeper, stronger and more funky :)

Lionel Richie and the Commodores were one of the best bands in the 1970s.
