If I put the motu 24 I/O between my pc and a mixing consolle 24 ch, can I use my pc as a multitrack recorder in play mode? Can it holds 24 tracks together in play? thanx
Now i use on PC from MotU: 3x 24i/o, 1x 2408mk3 with 8pre = 88 analog Inputs and 80 analog Outputs. In Logic PC (or any similar Software) i use all together how i need. It means: In one Step i can listen all 88 Channels, a few of Audio (wav) Channels, a lfew of plugins (Synth and FX), recording few audio Channels. The Limits are given by: The Hardisk = Say how many AudioChannels (wav) you can read or save in one step = R&W-Speed. And the CPU say how many Plugins i can use native.
This all is possible in realtime with my old Pentium Core2Duo 2x2.07GHz and one Harddisk.
I know it works with Recording of 16Channels 24bit 96kHz in one step. Usually i only need to recording 2 Channels and Play, maybe, 8-16 Channels. I never made a recording with all 88 Channels. If i create the final Song/Mix in Logic, then i use "Bouncing" to freeze all things i hear in a 2Channel Mix.
If you want Recording AND play 24 Channels from/to Harddisk, then you need a fast System.
can record 24 simultaneous tracks for pc? I am Portuguese, Portugal ... and maybe I'll buy motu 24 but not know if it good and not know that such technology and I'm afraid that n can connect it with my pc ...
Theoretical it's possible to play and record in one step simultaneous 96 Channels in 24bit/96kHz. In fact i think most computer don't have enough power to read the wave data of 96 channels easy from the harddisc - power = limit. A 24 i/o have got 24 analogue in an 24 analogue out. In my system i use the MotU's as mixer. In the sequencer i have any input from all synthesizers in real time ready for processing with plugins, can play and record in same step audio and softsynths.
MotU is with any software in Windows and Apple compatible. But this/my system is with a internal pci-card. For this it requires a PC or a Power-Mac. It isn't possible to connect direct with any other usually firewire bus. There are many other solutions with usually firewire. Also MotU brings a similar solution. Current i use 3x 24 i/o, 1x 2408mkII (with 1x 8pre) on my pci-424 in PC. All works perfect and sounds in really good quality :)
Cool beat dude, I'm a Reason 4 user and I can appreciate your work. The UIF of Reason is a lot easier to work with, I see a bunch of names on the left of your sequencer this seems less intuitive as Reason. Keep up the work mate :)
This Logic you see here is customized, and it's a 7 years old version.
You can customize Logic to a simple surface, safe/load 90 Screensets, also work with more than one Screen. Build your own mixer, free like you need. Build midioperators, free you want ... more than a simply arpeggiator. You can build own new stepsequenzers (if you need). Can combine in/out, midi or audio, how you like. People who not know what logic can do, have no idea about. That was v5.5, and the new?
@DrSqu Reason 5 is being printed as we speak, and also Record 1.5 . I think you can use your software to its capabilities because you know how to, and the UIF is probably fine it just looks alien to me. Keep busting out the tunes dude :)
Jesus christ i wish untalented people would stop arguing about which DAW is better... I bet 90% of professional producers could use a tape recorder and it would still sound awesome, so people need to STFU and learn that ability and talent can't be bought.
FL studio is a decent DAW. Just go check my profile and you will see what i am talking about. I'm not a great producer but at least people will know that FL is not a kidd's toy
I listen TechTrek - High Tech (Original Mix) , a very nice Trance Track :-)
But...
For this kind of music you don't need a highend sequencer ... my example here too.
I think it may be more important for complex music inclouding recordings of analogue gear and acoustic instruments. There you need more than a sequencer with little bit audio. There was also good electronic sound made back in 90s with Atari, it was enough. Important, what YOU need for having sucess and fun.
haha sorry but you can't seriously think FL is better than Logic, even Logic 5.5 what this guy is using is better than FL, Cubase, Reason ect. Only amateurs use FL. Logic is professional and all the big producers and famous musicians use it.
Hanz Zimmer is one of the most successful soundtrack composers of all time, and he prefers to use Cubase and Protools.
Logic is good, but over rated. Digital Performer is also used by many people on a proffesional level. It comes down to preference. I personally dont like Logic, I like cubase.
FL9 is not for amateurs. I use FL9 rewired through reaper. that shit is hella powerful man.
the vst effex are awesome, maximus is really dope. and of course i use waves mercury plugins as well. FL9 is as good as any daw out there. when its rewired with reaper and controlled by a mpc 4000....that shit is powerful man. i dont think you've actually used FL if you think its for amateurs.
Logic Pro is better then the sudio version along with logic 8.. THere is no comparison between FL and Logic Pro. THe amount of plug ins effects and possiblities is untouchable
Lol when last did you use FL, probably when it was still called fruityloop 3 cause Fl has since advanced to become one of the most professional and widely used program because of it's layout, flexibility and compatibility with external vst and sounds. It doesn't screw up your creativity by giving you shit loads of things you'll never use instead it makes you sit down and figure out how to manipulate sounds and effects to achive the sound you're looking for thus making u a better producer
well its ok, but the last three studios ive worked in didn't even have Fl in their rigs.. it may be a good program but its not industry standard as protools and logic seem to be.
why u writting in capital letters lol! dude nowadays all DAW's are similiar the only reason logic is more expensive is bcos of all the bundle software it comes with. FLS may have sucked 5 yrs ago bcos it didn't hve the capability to record or use external sounds and vst's which it now does, and it's half the price which means u can buy pro vst bundles(mercury) , vengeace soundpacks and free vst with the extra money.
I can't answer your question with only some words. There are to many ideas and solutions.
I think a good step is to ask inside a communitity, forums, for electronic production of music. Take a look at "sonicstate" or "vintagesynth". For any more information write me a private mail.

Do you know where I can still buy logic 5? Nothing on e-bay and the only thing there is is a pirated version with no VST's or sample banks :(

are you using a control surface and keyboard? What is the yellow screen that comes up?
dustovshio 4 years ago
The yellow screen is simply the "Event-Editor" from sequencer. In this list i can edit all Midi-Events directly.
As controller most time i use the ModWheel (Midi-Ctrl 1).
