The movie is just prohibited in the UK due to the James Bulger murder case from 1993, which I, personally, argue that it has NOTHING to do with it. The movie was released in November of 1992. James Bulger was murdered in February of 1993. It hadn't even hit the home video market yet in the UK and there was no "internet" back then to download the film. But, the law is the law. Maybe you can find it online to watch.

As the tagline says, Jason and Freddy were kids once too...., even though Orphan is still one of my favorite evil child movies, this one also delivers the goods, check it out! Orphan ripped nobody. True, it had it's share of influences and the actual line is: Mikey, Omen 4, The Good Son and The Bad Seed, but just like every film in the world, you take some bits here and there, inspiration to develop your own style, your own film, etc... That's what Orphan did and how the film industry works, how it goes. BTW. The film is brilliant, Isabelle as Esther is bloody amazing, the whole thing is just special and unique with a mindblowing twist.

1) Esther was unique in both character concept and twist

2) Twist itself was hard to predict.

3) Twist also explained a lot in the film.

Yeah! Orphan was unique in it's own way. Esther was definitely a likable character as the actor who portrayed her did a brilliant job. I also liked the suspense of Orphan which then leads to that final unexpected plot twist!

Overall, Orphan is in the top 3 child horror films of all time (possibly #1)

For those that like killer kid movies I recommend a very very old one called The Bad Seed. This is available some places on DVD and video and I believe scenes can be found here on youtube. I will warn you that the movie(made in 1956) is very very slow to build and doesn't show a lot of violence. It does show a lot of build up of suspense though. The child in The Bad Seed has that ironic cuteness and almost perfect child quality as Mikey seems to portray.

They ban a lot of the grislier horror flicks in England, mostly the really obscure, ultra-low-budget movies that were banned like 20 years ago during the big "video nasty" scare of the 80's and they don't bother to take a second look at them. Mikey ended up being one of those forgotten, ill-remembered movies whose ban hasn't bothered to be lifted ever since the awful James Bulger murder around the time of its release. I actually don't live there, but I know that they're tough on censorship.
