  • @metalheadmom420 "Never went to high school but i have my GED and im very proud of it!!"

    hm..... says a lot

  • hahaha he ate his willy

  • 1. People of a lower class tend to emulate the higher class, even though what they do is often absurd. That goes for consumerism - to buy goods simply because affluent people buy them. In imitating them, you allow them to consume you as well.

    2. The idea of consuming something in order to take on its qualities. Just because you eat a hand, doesn't mean you'll get one; similarly buying Prada won't make you classy by association.

  • Incredible!! Jan Svankmajer is a genius of the highest order!

  • hungry people are scary...

  • i know this is art, but you gotta admit that this is fuckin creepy

  • @JOS5893 Someone is saying it is not creepy?

  • WHAT THE FUCK

  • This was my first time watching a Švankmajer movie. It won't be my last.

  • WTF¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿ this video may not be suitable for minors. ??¿?¿?¿? this is art a masterpiece

  • @evzdiver a 7 year old wouldn't see the masterpiece. all they'd see is a dick.

  • you are what you eat or you eat what you are?

  • Pure genius.

  • The poor man eats anything, the rich man eats everything.

  • @HitTheFan What a wonderful explanation! thanks!

  • I'm not sure if this is over-analyzing; but for "Dinner", I believe there is some symbolism to the body parts the people are consuming? The first man eats his hand, which has a gold ring on it; so he is rich; the second guy is an athelete and eats his leg; the woman eats her breats; and the cigarette man who is unclean eats his penis.

  • They're eating their prized body parts. You could say that the unclean man is a pervert.

  • @LeapingLeptons42 Thats Really good Analyzing!! I never would of thought! XD to tell you the truth I kind of thought that it was just a cannabilizim fest. but I kept watching it over and over and im like "Hmmm...theres something more" xD I think you figured it out for me! Thanks!

  • increible

  • Why was I recommended this by Youtube?

I'm not stating that I didn't enjoy this clip, It was in fact entertaining. But WHY?

  • Did he use real people or were they fake?? If they are fake then sorry but it looks so real and odd.

  • @VAMPIRICROCKSTAR stop motion photography combined with claymation.

  • My favorite Svankmajer animation, plain awesome

  • Very, very clever.

  • jajaja monstershit jajaja fucking ignorant jajaja how old are you 3??

  • MonsterCrypt, you are the dumbest, pointless animation I've ever seen.

  • You're an American, aren't you?

  • Please.

  • I'm an american and I love his work. The larger any mass of people, the greater the collective idiocy. You wouldn't be immune either. Doesn't mean the whole nationality is doomed.

  • And what is it about his work that you cherish so dearly as to claim to love it? Don't get me wrong, I completely agree with your collective idiocy theory, but seeing that you have responded to a question (despite it being rhetorical) that was not aimed at you to begin with, I will assume that you'd like to strike up some sort of intellectual conversation, and I am willing to delve deeper into this and discuss whatever you like. Be it mass idiocy, the existential crisis or eating one's pants...

  • I responded because no matter how disgruntled I personally am with my country and how it works, it just bothers me when I see people who weren't born and raised here making such harsh and judgmental comments, no matter how warranted they are *sometimes*. The fact is, if a place is not your home, you can never truly understand it on a deep enough level. If you weren't raised here, you can't see the undertones of day to day life. Know what I mean? ***Continued in next comment ****

  • And as for his work, I'm in a sense new to it. A friend showed me his Alice movie years ago and I've watched it repetitively since. recently I decided to youtube him. What I like is the way he bring out these overlooked yet omni present truths of life. It's done in a way that reminds me of things my subconscious tells me in my dreams. Absolutely absurd while striking to the most simple yet significant truths about human nature. I probably sound pretty pretentious.

  • Not at all pretentious. I'm glad to see that there are some people on youtube that are willing to discuss and/or argue in a civilized manner (though I wouldn't consider this an argument in its conventional sense) instead of relying on the overused "fuck you." I know exactly what you mean about having to live in a country in order to understand its inner workings -- I've lived and grown up in the US for fifteen years, and though I love the country in itself, there were many things that have ...

  • disgruntled me about it as well (probably the same things that have upset you). It's a love-hate relationship, which I also share with the country that I was born in. I realize that my initial comment was a bit too judgmental, but I usually react harshly to common stupidity. Anyway, I'm glad to see someone else is reacting to Svankmajer positively, and anks for a well-rounded response to my response, which I realize may have sounded--however unintentionally--snide. It' was refreshing. Regards.

  • I love svankmajer!!

  • Wonderful!

  • what's the song name?

  • surreaistico dramatique.. j'aime bien svankmajer! genio!

  • of his shit is to deep for me

  • i think they're just hungry

  • although i like the creative look of his camara, light and sounds.

i really have no clue what its all about

  • Dude, do you understand what surrealism means?

  • Saboreie com moderação! kkkkk... Incrível.

  • My interpretation of "Lunch" is that many people don't understand the high-brow unpracticality associated with fine dining, and they tend to do things the way they would regularly, but there's a point to be crossed in everyone where the individual's instinct kicks in and they have to do everyday things the way everyone else does, because everyone's the same, and everyone has the primal instinct of how to do things most practically and sensibly rooted deep down inside of them

  • I your "interpretion of lunch", an insight made with interest in and passion for the work of Svankmajer. But I must disagree. I think it is the animator's critique of dining out in Prague. An otherwise beautiful city, but two types of mustard and three types of meat....on a pizza?! With pickles?!!!

  • Pixelation.

  • I was looking for this film since I was in highschool when I saw this. Thanks.

  • 6:23 I lol'd :D

  • me llega a dar hambre, que bueno que encontre esto de nuevo!

  • tu eres lo que comes

  • es fantastico grande entre los grandes

  • o.O

  • ew eat ouselves at dinner...

  • trasfondo social

  • That was cool! Nothing like being hungry for fashion. -RW-

  • awesome!

  • holy christ!! are you sure these clay people? i'd have had no idea if i didnt know Jan Švankmajer was a stop motion artist!

  • they aren't they are real people just when the two guys are dining and you see them shove all that in their mouth...then its clay.

  • Awesome!

  • 6:30 omfg wtf bbq

  • I always think that it represents greed inside people. Every people are struggling to feed their own greed and end up eating others and eventually, themselves. Then again, that's just me. Only Jan Svankmeger himself knows the secret behind the stories.

  • this is art in stop motion, i never now a genius like Jan Svankmajer

  • yes, it was.

  • I think, the people in the last part are eating the part of the body, which matters most to them... A sign of how we all can overuse parts of us in order to archive or goals maybe?

  • Not sure. But I think many can agree his work is very symbolic and genius.

  • It's the *CRACK* sound when he eats the corner piece of the table! Always gets me. XD

  • awsome!!!

  • his death was so recent, i wish i couldve met jan and gotten some tips on movie making and art.

  • Have you seen my brain? I guess it blew out somewhere near this video...

Can't even remember how I found this...

  • wow just amazing

  • I loved it. It was really phenomenal.

  • que wea pasa por dios!

no entiendo que mierda esta wea wn!

alguien me podria explicar que wea significa esta vaina wn!

  • poor poor guy....victim of inhumanity.....

  • poor guys...they must have been out of food

  • Jan Svankmajer, what a disturbing movie maker... I saw his vision of "Alice in Wonderland". Very good animation, but weird, creepy and disturbing in any way....

  • I think he tries to make them disturbing

    he inspires me so much

I think its just stunning what he can do

and he has a crazy imagination and creative

  • I wish I knew the name of the vagabond in the second scenario. Or the names of all the actors, in general.

  • I remeber I saw this movie in Czech TV more than 10 years ago. I liked it much.

The couple in lunch part are father and son Jan Kraus and David Kraus. Jan/older/ is popular with to his talkshow. Just type his name + "biomasa" in youtbe search engine and watch how he totally discredited leader of "the Green Party" who didn't even knew what biomass was. Btw.. Jan has several brothers, one of them Michael is a professor of politology in Middlebury.

  • why would you eat your clothes before the table and stuff?

  • I stopped at the part where he took off his pants...I know where this is going.

  • what the hell did i just watch?

  • i feel a little creeped out, especially when their mouths get real wide and look right into the camera

  • It's a tragedy that I had to learn of Jan Svankmajer from Youtube.

  • Me too now... Meanwhile, Britain watches Big Brother and reads The Sun newspaper.

  • bravo!!!

  • This is so good yet so disturbing.

  • es un dios

  • Es el mejor cineasta que ha existido!!

  • es super chingón..!!!!!!!!!!

  • you know, i was wondering why that that one guy had a wooden hand. now i know.

  • the one guy that is the slob (well, i'm sorry if i called him that, but i couldn't think of the word) he seriously looks like an actor that i know of. not personally though.

  • Comment removed

  • you ate your own illusion

  • you fail.

  • I met him and he was AWESOME!

  • Oh Fuck! This is pure surrealistic genius.

  • five stars, both part one and two

  • this is so cool.. 5 stars

  • Glad I found out about this guy, he's excellent.

  • Amazing skills! The animation technique- profi stuff!

  • Fuckin insane! Good tehnique!

  • ajaaj divertidisimo

  • QUE LOCURA!!! JEJEJE

  • An excellent representation of the breakfast: a so quickly and packed act. Also, there are many people who find a place where the food is the same for all in the middle of their way to the work.

  • A good representation of the lunch: a more spontaneous and easy act. Also, there are many people who can't wait for the waiter; therefore, everybody has the chance to meet other people from different social classes (in a virtuous or a cruel way).

  • An interesting representation of the dinner: a pacific and kitsch act, because everybody has the chance to construct their own stew at the end of the day.

  • i could really go for a penis about now.

  • Theres a difference though between pornography and art. The woman's breasts and the man's penis were not included for pornographic purposes. The Statue of David may be of a naked man, but it is for art's sake.

  • without trying to offend .i do know its artistic but my question still remains the same why the breasts or penis ??

  • As far as nudity goes, the offensiveness of an image is entirely subjective.

As far as this is concerned, it's meant as a literal representation of humanity consuming itself, so there are few better ways to end than with the consumption of our most intimate parts. Cannibalising the genitalia is an especially powerful image in this respect. Presenting a perfect crescendo and an obscene circle of life and death.

Though I wonder why one would find breasts worse than a man eating his severed leg.

  • The part with the penis... it shows hands covering it ?? t's artistic

  • Sorry about the spelling the keys got stuck .

  • They're a part of the body, like the hand or the foot...

  • Tell me something i dont know ..i dont think you read my first comment look at the video again ..he didnt cover the breasts he covered the penis ..

  • If you had a penis, you would know. No one wants their penis to be viewed when flaccid and weak. Men wish to be strong and erect. We feel shame when someone sees our vulnerability.

  • It made you hungry?

Dude what the hell that's just weird

Which part made you hungry exactly?

The breakfast which had been shared by countless people?

The lunch which didn't actually include a single bit of food?

    Or penis?
