I was at this show - reading 1991 - Goo had just come out and on the same bill were Babes in Toyland, dinosaur Jr and Nirvana (earlier in the day) and Iggy Pop headlined. It was an amazing day, but Sonic Youth stole it. That is Kurt Cobain dancing at the back - him and Dave Grohl kept running about and dancing behind the stage...such a good day...
@BreakerSizzle i agree so godamn much with you, imagine being like, 18-19 around 88-92. all the fuckin awesome bands playing, goood. would be sweet huh?
@Kayzer84: you could be right, I just watched the film again. I remember that Kurt had impaled himself on Dave's kit earlier and had apparently was quite injured...I do remember him and Dave skipping around behind Sonic Youth though...
Shit, i dont see how anybody could learn how to play a sonic youth song. they're unconventional tunings. thats one of the things i like about them. Shit, i can barely tune standardly, let alone do others and unusual ones. i hope to one day. it's interesting. this lets you know that these are people who really know their instruments.
the tunings are fairly public knowledge. as for the songs themselves, they're not necessarily harder to play than others. there are some improv bits on some of their songs that would be hard to replicate.
Ya they're definitely creative for the sounds and stuff theyve made and the unusual tunings and etc.
I haven't been playing for too long- 4 months? So im still very much intimidated by a lot of things. Like barre chords and the fear that'll I never be able to learn tunings by ear and stuff, etc. It's definitely not a overnight learning process!
the songs a very easy actually. songs like kool thing and death valley 69 are just barre chords. one thing that does suck is if you wanna play another song you have to go to an almost entirely different tuning to play it
That's a real woman.

@BreakerSizzle If only they had time machines right? Haha, I think the 90s would be one of the most funnest times to go see a concert.
But your generation isn't too bad, the Yeah Yeah Yeahs aren't bad and few others.
