  • i have the VHS of this .really like the movie

  • Love how Teegra running around aimlessly was what barely kept this from being a Fantasy, animated sausage fest. I love this movie!! XD

  • Fantastic movie, one of my fave animated movies. This movie is like Heavy Metal meets Princess Mononoke and the Lord of the Rings Trilogy.

  • ...BATMAN?

  • hey look its Rexxar!

  • Bakshi and Franzetta, a perfect combo!

  • when was this made? the animation in this video is better than a lot of the stuff that's made these days!

  • @imbatman505 apparently during the 80´s

  • @imbatman505

Does this movie's animation rotoscoping technique is similar to the same one used in Avatar? Cameron was influenced by Bakshi on this motion capture rotoscoping technique.

  • Rexxar lol without shoulderpads xD

  • Who the fuck is Rexxar?

  • Rexxar is a beastmaster who helps the Orcs defend and develop their new home of Durotar from various enemie

in the Bonus Campaign: The Founding of Durotar part of Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne

  • couldn't have said it better, thanks!

  • holy shit rexxar!!!

  • Rexxar pwns his original.

  • HIIIIIIIIIII REXXAR from Warcraft...

  • Rexxar's origin I see :D

  • YES ! Lance is a good name :)

  • damn...memories....i saw this damn masterpiece when i was like 5 or 6...i heard its on dvd..ima buy this...darkwolf was bad mutha

  • My favourite movie from childhood. I love the scene where Dark Wolf slaughters dozens of Necron's dogs!

  • I think when you compare this to most recent animated movies, it shows that animation has really declined...

  • i totally agree with you, but bear in mind that Ralph Bakshi was a phenom. He'd put everything on the line to complete his vision. The cartoons of today on tv give me the impression animators think children are stupid.

  • Not entirely. Though I'm not an avid anime fan, lots of new Japanese animate shows are amazing. Check out any of the stuff Studio 4C produces to see what I'm talking about. Animation hasn't declined... its moved overseas, and that's a sad thing. US animation always had a proud legacy, but in the recent decade, there isn't much to be proud of. Seriously, what the hell is Johnny Test? How does that even compare to BTAS or Swatkats? Please...

  • Umm i'm sorry but the whole "Anime is better" is bullshit, they have as much hacks in japan as america. Anime really declined as well, everything seems to be done on computer and photoshoped. Hand drawn animation seems to have been replaced by computers to cut corners and costs.

  • We're in the digital age, inevitably, everything will have to go through a computer sometime throughout production. Because anime uses computers shouldn't be an excuse for it being lower in quality. And, there may be a huge number of hacks in Japan, but there is heck of a whole lot more diversity (more competition = better shows). The production cost for Ghost in a Shell (most expensive anime) was 300k per episode; compare that with Avatar: the last Airbender, which managed 1 mil per episode.

  • I wouldn't say American animation sucks, just that Japanese anime is consistent. In Japan, you get a whole range of crappy anime, but at least that's supplemented by many good ones. In the US, we get loads of crap, and you'll be hard-pressed to find a few gems. The current Friday line-up on CN is pathetic, save for the new Batman and Star Wars series, Chowder and maybe Ben Ten. 6Teen? C'mon. Johnny Test? Subpar. Though I'll admit the CN lineup did improve since I last commented 4 months ago.

  • The new Batman and Chowder suck so much.

  • Darkwolf made everyone his bitch in this movie

  • Yeah, I freaking love that guy. He's like a Conan fron hell!

  • He is easily the coolest fucking character I've seen in any movie in a long time. He's like Batman with a fucking axe.

This is one of my favorite Bakshi films now, and it made me more interested in Frazetta's artwork. I love the poster, too. Does anyone know where I can find a high-resolution version of it?

This film has some of the best rotoscoping I've ever seen, and some amazing backgrounds, too.

  • Darkwolf is fucking pimping

  • Unless I'm mistaken, it looks like Blizzard modeled the character Rexxar in Warcraft III The Frozen Throne after Dark Wolf. Both wear very similar masks.

  • ice tyrant = arthas the lich king?

    oh im clever

  • @jujubajo lol indeed

  • kool movie

  • Answer below is aimed at GOTHMIDNIGHTMERMAID - who asked what was the story, i tried to summarize it

  • I've got this movie on VHS. It was one of my faves as a teenager. Great animation with very realistic violence and a very sexy girl :O) Sadly, I don't think this film is not available on DVD in the UK.

  • it is now on DVD in a 2 disk set

  • Nice trailer. Never seen it but really really wish I had back in the 80s when I was loving that Dungeons & Dragons Sat Morning cartoon.

    Thanks for posting this.

  • WHAT? You haven't seen Fire and Ice? Are you crazy? Wait til you see the guy with the big axe and the mask(Dark Wolf)...he's like a blood thirsty dog, chopping head and limbs all over the damn place. I would love to see him and Conan in the same movie!

  • someone should make a sequel to this movie, its way overdue

  • This movie looks pretty good.

  • What is the story of Fire & Ice?

  • Dumb Q: Is this american animation or anime?

  • This has interesting animation.

  • Yes, this was American animation.Ralph Bakshi also put out the Fritz The Cat movie, the animated Lord of The Rings and a lesser known film called "American Pop".

  • long story short :

An ice wizard (Nekron) is attacking (with his magic and his army of orcs) a nearby kingdom.

In this kingdom (where lava is used as fuel - hence the name Fire Kingdom and the title of the movie) lives peaceful villagers (among them a guy named Lance) and a princess (Teegra)

The princess of this kingdom is kidnapped by orcs spies, she escapes met Lance (from the village) and later they're helped by a mysterious masked barbarian named DarkWolf?.

  • [...]

Among many events (escape, figths, re-capture, ...) they managed to kill Nekron, and will live in peace ...

  • Sorry to make a correction: Our Hero 's name is LARN not Lance. Steve Sandor of star Trek fame rotoscoped as DarkWolf. Also his voice and 6' 4" frame were used. ever3st- I hope you pardon the correction.

  • thanks - (Lance is a good name though) -

  • i never knew this film existed... i am in awe. i will buy this film and worship it.
