  • did you improvise the solo?

  • sorry ladies about 1:23-1:26 was dedicated to me

  • Glenn Hansards cover of this song, is by far the best Ive heard, NOBODY in this day and age sings with the emotion and raw spirit of Glenn Hansard.....NOBODY

  • @brownloudproud Totally agree

  • @brownloudproud i admit Glen has a decent cover, u can hear and feel his emotion.......but it's no Colin James. I'd take Colin James over anyone, anyday!

  • Joe Cocker's version of this song makes this one look like crap.

  • @strtcrnr so go back to Joe Cockers and quite shitting on Colin James! This is an amazing cover of an amazing song, by an amazing singer, guitarist , performer........and this makes Joe Cockers look like shit by the way

  • another way to look at, your lucky to be able to play this at shows ;)

  • saw him do this one live. a real inspiration

  • fantastic!!!!!!!!!

But Colin, I first saw and heard of you when I worked at Harpo's Cabaret in Victoria back in the Mid 80's Gary Van Buskirk days.,"Honey No more Dogging no fooling around with you"

Question: How well known is Colin James in Canada? Should be on the world stage in my opinon.

    Cheers

  • He is about 40 years old now... and has been on the music scene since he was about 17 years old. He was amazing back then and has only gotten better. He is a national treasure like the Tragically Hip. Absolutely legendary!!!!!

I had a chance to see C.J at a very small venue in Wasaga Beach in the 90's what a rockin show!!

  • This show is the best concert I've seen. Catch it if you can, even if you're not a hardcore Colin James fan. Intimate and acoustic. Video gives me chills. Dude just gets better and better and better.

  • Fucking AWRSOME Bro!!!!

  • HE should be more famous -- amazing voice and superbly talented.

  • Great stuff man!

  • superb

  • DAAAMN! 5 Star!

  • best cover of this song I've ever heard. I like this slimed down cover better then when Colin plays with whole band (including horns). I liosten to this version at least once a day. Thanks rvanacker

  • Copyright music and lyrics reproduced by kind permission of MY ASS.

  • Ya - Van Morrison's record label made me put that in there.... they were going to ban me from YouTube if I didn't put that verbiage up there.... even though I took the recording myself at a live show....kinda ridiculous really.

  • Yeah...we all hate the label companies these days. They have stolen the souls of many...

Nice show. Van was livin' it there with you.

  • Absolutely the best version of this song i have ever heard. Well done.

  • I have always been impresed with Colin James. A great musician and fellow Canadian

  • Great job!

  • so sexiiiiiiiii , an great cover love it my favourite song of all time

  • Oh man, this was done on my birthday!

  • Love covers!

I sing myself and before I head out to the Karaoke Bar I listen to this just to get me pumped up.

Imitation is the greatest compliment you can give!

  • Amazing job! . As an artist myself, it is very comforting to pay tribute to those who INSPIRE and INFLUENCE US as you have done with Van Morrison. One of the best covers I have heard! Great job Colin James!

Some people should keep their thoughts to themselves, clearly they dont understand. Its not called steeling, its called A COVER,,,RETARD(s)

  • stefaneedee's comment is completely ignorant

  • great song. I love Colin's cover and Vans original.

  • Not Van the Man, I love Van!

But not half bad either! I love Colin!

    Nice post, thank you!

  • Best I've heard on the net or live! Pretty amazing. Love it!

  • It's called covering, and it's fantastic to hear artists play songs that have influenced them in their career.

Obviously you've never heard of Colin James, who is already a Canadian icon for the music he has written himself.

    Such a dumb comment

  • Colin James "isn't a bad musician?"

Guy? He's been writing his own music since the 80's and is one of the most charismatic live performers around, even now. This is a cover and an homage to one of the best songs ever written.

I would take a few minutes to look into an artist before making a comment such as yours.

  • And, none other than the legend himself, SRV, gave him his big break. You know he's good then.

  • Comment removed

  • Stefaneedee is right. People shouldn't play other peoples songs. That is stealing and stealing is wrong. Van Morrison should have never stolen "Baby Please Don't Go" from Big Joe Williams. I think it's time he gives it back. Just a thought.

  • great great great song...

  • love you honey!!! :*

  • HOT HOT HOT HOT HOT.....this song is amazing, but you get Colin James singing....Gold. Pure gold.

  • Awesome....love this song, great job!!

  • I heard this fantastic song a few years back made me speed up and enjoy the sun rays and feel alive. Didn't know who was playing on the radio then few days later found out it was Colin James with Big Band singing Surely.

Became a fan went to see him at Massey Hall in Toronto this guy sounds great live and on CD which is rare these days. He also did something that blew me away stayed after the show to sign autographs.

Truly a nice person and gifted I remain a fan and wish him well.

  • Best version of this tune ever!!!!

  • Can anybody figure out the chords he plays? I know the solo would be hard to tab, but if someone knew the chords I'd be really grateful!

  • Two words,Yee Haa.

  • This guy is way good!

  • I'd Give My Left Nut To Play Like Colin.

  • YEE HAA

  • Very nice sound! Beautiful voice!!!!!!

    Thank You, Mary and Tony

  • He's crossing the country now on the Spirit Train.... Awesome free show.... if it passes through your town catch it.

  • Such a beauteous voice.. ;~; <3

  • Well, when the sailors cry and thus the foghorn whistle starts to blow, her gypsy soul has to be rocked just like way back in the days of old, clearly.

  • Hey guys, Ive had a few requests to post the original high quality version so that you guys can lift what he's playing. Its quite big so Ill have to find a place to host it but once I do Ill post the link to it here so you guys can have a closer look.

  • man! this guy is a trooper! awesome acoustic guitar work there! wow

  • Seriously, some day I have GOT to see him live.
