The movie plotline was layed out exactly like the book's was...the only difference is that in the book you see everything through the view of the boy...and it's impossible to do that in a movie..."neat" happened because the writer wanted it to be neat, he wanted the people reading the book to not be lost...I don't think that's the directors fault or the movies...the story just happened that way...I suppose they could have labeled things more.

okay so im watching the reader and like wow! this movies crazy lol! it is one of the most interesting and unique and i think brilliant movies and book i have ever heard. but some of the movie i just really don't understand. but hopefully it'll get better.

Yes!!! The book is amazing, I read it years ago, it came out in 1995. Bernard Schlink is the author.

Hello, does anyone know where can I see the movie "Jude" by Kate Winslet. i'm about to see "The Reader" & I hope is really good. These kind of movies are sometimes ignored bu the audience, we're used to watching action & bloody movies. But when masterpieces like these come around like Tatasama has said, we are quick to critize the acting, instead of understanding the real meaning of the movie.

for me it's definitely for oscars, i am not really against 'slumdog" winning the "best picture" . I guess, the reader is really captivating. Kross is really good; he portrayed the role well and so is Fienes of course.and Kate Winslet is really impressive. she deserves the award. After i watched the movie- i can't help but say It should have won the best Picture.(though, i adbor the part of hannah's suicide..:(

I would like to ask those who read the book. Why didnt Michael tell the truth to the court about Hanna? Why didnt he help her? She doesnt deserve the sentence that she got.  All she wanted was to do her job. And why did he back out on seeing her in prison during the trial?

It wasn't clear to me if she knew it was Michael or she didn't know who the visitor was.

which won best picture. Everyone I know who saw The Reader said it was one of the best movies they ever saw. I cannot recommend this movie enough. A must see classic! I am buying the DVD the

well, Michael didnt know the truth that Hanna couldnt read, she was escaping from this truth everytime he tried to show her a book, when they were together in the restaurant, he gave her the menu to make order! he tried to show her the map when they were walking, he gave her once the book to read and she refused by telling him "u read"! but it was bad that he didnt meet her when she was in the prison ;(

In the book, Hannah was led to believe (by the kid), that he was 17. Not acceptable anyway but he was not traumatized by the molestation. He was obsessed with Hannah his entire life and he never got over being dumped so coldly by his first love. He obviously was very disappointed that she had been a Nazi and always wondered if she was sorry for her war crimes. He could never love anyone as much as Hannah the experience with her shaped his entire life.

Ahh the words of a jealous heart. When I'm 30something i hope i have a figure like Kate Winslet, and i know many a woman that would say the same.

As for "degradatory level in form of acting" she was marvellous at her part! You'll find a certain degree of nudity in any film these days, and i take my hat off to her for being professional enough to be able to pull it off.

To me, Kate Winslet made the movie The Titantic work. Had they cast anyone else, I do not think the movie would have been the blockbuster it was. In The Reader, she is excellent but without the fine young actor, this movie would not have be as supurb. He is as good in it as she is.

In The Court scene, Hanna Asks the Judge, "Well , what would you have done?".......long pause........ then Hanna follows with " Should I not have signed up with Siemens?"

Siemens had been Hanna's job Before she answered a call for guards at the camps. What is she doing, invoking Siemens here, when Siemens had nothing to do with the fire atrocity she's being accused of?

Sorry if you dont know the facts fulcrum100...Siemens was partners with the Nazis...they sent the Jews there to work without any pay (like slaves) until they were too exhausted or sick, then they were sent to camps to die. Many bosses of Siemens ended up in prison for war crimes after the war. Its german history! Siemens and Nazis and death camps are connected!

Gosh, this woman is the most deadpan 'presenter' I have ever encountered. Is this an attempt to be smart and pithy and collected, in a modern way? She doesnt strike as a very good reviewer at all.
