This was helpful. I was not sure what the shared key was and if I should use wep. I can set up a wireless, but the security options general info was a mystery to me.

@BoomkinDruid sharedkey is the key your laptops will need to access the wifi network.

WEP is ok, better than nothing but it is crackable. WPA2 is not. So you should use WPA2 :)

You can try and hard reset your router, the flip side being that you will have to put all settings again.

hey there is wpa pre shared key is that the same and when i put the password on wpa pre shared key i try to connect to my internet but it says this computer is not compatiable to this network any help ?

Try using a different scheme , wpa 2 tkip or aes and both, try using all 3 combos.

strange, and you are able to use your internet connection fully when not using the WPA2 algo ? ,

Also try connecting to your router's URL when using WPA2, tell me if it works and try pinging it.

This is after connecting ? , WPA2 shouldnt affect your internet connectivity, aare you choosing the right algo while actually connecting to ur network ?

@storm - not necessarily , some routers do have an option that they should allow admin access only to physically connected computers, but you can also access this model via your laptop and make the necessary changes.

Even when you wirelessly log onto your router, you can access it via URL unless you have disabled wireless admin access.
