Well, the motors don't need to be waterproof because they will still work underwater. The wire in the motor is the path of least resistance compared to water so it still works.
I think most people like gas because they are noisy, electrics are quiet and effecient, that noise energy is put to the wheels rather than to your next door neighbor
nitros aren't much faster than 4cell lipo brushless. I like electric because not as much maintenance... and easy to run in any condition, not to mention lots more torque.
