  • surprising people not knowing how very big gracie was widely admired and sought after and not knowing she was a soprano with a unique instantly recognisable voice silly to criticise her comedy as somehow not important this was her not a management invention

  • @silent00planet Whilst I agree with you on one aspect of your view her great soprano voice has been very much out of view with many silly songs being at the forfront. This track proves how popular her straight singing is compaired to the comedy bravo Gracie at last the other side is being given as much attention if not more than the comedy.

  • How right you are davnkatz - the mere touch of her hand against yours then holding it - weak at the knees man but a feeling of elation that she actually liked you - pretty ordinary by todays standards I suppose but at 70 with the girl down the street still here with me the bold approach when you were 15 was worth it. And she doesn't ley me forget it . Warmest to you Graham Melb Aus

  • Thanks for the comments its a lovely song and Gracie sings this with such feelingone of her best without doubt counting the views on here enjoy and thanks to all.

  • To be honest, there's a lot of love songs, especially in this generation.

But this is the one I'll most likely end up singing to a woman I love someday. :]

  • Wonderful. It takes me back to a time when society was civil and music had meaning. A time when things were much simpler and when on a date you were dressed up, went to a dance with dancable music, took your date home and hoped for a good night kiss. ( It was often the third or fourth date ) Anticipation was and still should be apart of boy / girl relationships. What a great thing it was and kids today will never enjoy those moments.

  • @edsawall AMEN!!! Your forgot to mention that HOLDING HANDS was a big deal. I remember Lavelle - I was cazy about her - and what a thrill it was the first time she held hands with me. It was such a wonderful moment I could hardly speak. Too many people will never know that kind of thrill and ecitement.

I do not remember hearing her BACK THEN, so it is a thrill hearing her now.

  • This is a Mexican song.

    Author: Agustin Lara.

  • C'est Alys Robi qui a popularisé cette chanson au Québec dans les années 40! La traduction française était "Je te tiens sur mon coeur" et j'ai mit sa version sur you tube!

  • Gracie's talent as a singer is truly done justice in this superb recording. Thanks a lot for sharing!

  • This is a surprise. I did not know that Gracie recorded this song.

    Very enjoyable. Thanks for sharing.

  • My mother and daddy have the original sheet music for this, sung by a well known trio for a Disney film. Anyone recall that? I can see the pictures, but not the names.

  • The three Caballeros. (spelling?)

    Donald Duck flick.

  • She has such a lovely voice. I could be wrong but I think this was originally a Spanish song as I have a couple versions sung in Spanish. Thank you for sharing.

  • You're right; the original title of this song is "Solamente una vez", written by Mexican composer Agustín Lara.

  • What a suprise of all the Gracie Fields videos I have posted, this one has had the most hits. Perhaps its one of her nicest recordings it is one of my favourites no doubt about its popularity.
