marlowe could you please make a slow version? i don't get the beginning till the "octave pop" because there are too many dead notes in between, and many of these "how to play pow on bass"-videos differ at exactly this part (and in my opinion most of them are wrong, because often the groove is missing when they play fast - but your version seems to be correct)
Damn dude. I love watching you play. I try to emulate the grooves I see on your vids when I jam with my friends. I should practice, I gotta jam in a few hours. Grooving shit dude.
He is not just the creator of slap bass, he also was the bass player for Sly & the Family Stone, then later he started Graham Central Station. Then He went on to have a very successful solo career.
ha ha , i really love these comments, can't you you guys hear that its just an almost acoustic sounding bass in a boomy room. Speaking of tone - hrrrmppp! ;-)
I was reffering to his other videos where he has an awesome sound. He just in a bad room for playing here and it sounds like hes playing out of computer speakers. If you watch his other vids he gets amazing sound with that fender jazz.
haha i love the sarcasm. another nice one my friend. about the korg pandora you use. Does that totally replace an amp or can you run sound through there to your amp and use it as an effects pedal?
I saw a bassplayer using it as a preamp/monitor on a gig where he had to use the PA system. I wouldnt use it as a "effects pedal" live, unless yuo only use 1 setting
ok thats what I thought thanks for the info. One more quick question which you probably get all the time. How do you get such a nice slap tone? Aside from hitting the strings correctly and the proper string gauge. I cant get that good of a tone if my life depended on it
tabs don't suck and people like me aren't too lazy to read music. I think it's actually fun to use tabs instead because when you try to figure out the articulation of the notes you listen to the music very carefully and you get it better that way.
Yes, the closed D to E vibration is much more efficiant.
But the point is that...musicians who play for the AUDIENCE know that they can't tell nor give a rats ass wether you played an open D or not.
Geez, there are so many pretentious numbnuts on this site. And, often, when you check their own sites, their not very good (haven't looked at phuckhue's yet but i'm so curious) Jimminy Christmas....
I too think phuckhue can go phuck him/herself. music is such a free form of expression. I've seen Larry HIMSELF play this song with/without the open string. I've also seen him play it very, very sloppily.
I think that PhuckHue can go Phuck himself. Your version is on point. All of the notes are there, but what I believe he's referring to is when Larry Graham does the D to E back to back he does the first one on the open D string then the 2nd on the A string. Your way is more efficient.
lol. no, tabs (when it comes to guitars) are a way of showing you how to play certain songs on guitars, look up 'guitar tabs' in google and you'll see. maybe... you might need some help understanding them if you've never dealt with tabs before. but basically, tabs are most people's way of learning songs by their favorite artist.
