  • marlowe could you please make a slow version? i don't get the beginning till the "octave pop" because there are too many dead notes in between, and many of these "how to play pow on bass"-videos differ at exactly this part (and in my opinion most of them are wrong, because often the groove is missing when they play fast - but your version seems to be correct)

  • You just added an "awesome" demonstration!

  • your shirts louder than your amp! lol you rock

  • hey!!! sounds unplugged ;) great video love the bass fender jazz?? or precision? im not very good with naming them :P

  • Incredible! What kind of bass do you have? It looks cool and despite the video quality I can tell it sounds good.

  • I call it low-fi. Well done!

  • i cant stop watching this

  • Sounds like assspanking!!!

    awsomeee

    :D

  • Good.. but more feeling would take it to the next level..

  • huh?,.Capri's?

  • Nice Sound!!!

  • Ownt.

  • That's wicked man! Great tribute, keep it up!

  • MORTAL BROTHER !!!! yeeaaa

  • play on brother!!

  • Sounds like hes playing in a tiled shower.

Just goes to show: If you can play well, it doesn't matter where you are.

  • sucky amp but u did that pretty good.

  • this is awesome, nice playing but it sounds like your actions a little low, sounds like the strings are rubbing on the frets

  • partly because the amps not turned up enough.. if not even turned on at all.

  • wow, i love the crisp sound of that bass.

  • Cool!

  • Damn dude. I love watching you play. I try to emulate the grooves I see on your vids when I jam with my friends. I should practice, I gotta jam in a few hours. Grooving shit dude.

  • Try urning on your amp !!! lol - good effort though

  • no, he just cant crank it because he has neighbours.

  • Agreed with Jonny620

  • good work, but please record your next video not in "the reverb hall" :)

  • nice nice. now try doing that and singing. haha jk your really good, nice tone

  • woa,ur so good!

  • your technique is amazing man good work

  • youre technique, groove, and style compensates the awfull sound quality.... 5 stars

  • i agree with jonny620

  • Great Job

  • Beautiful Jazz,

    Beautiful playing.

  • @AlexConley:

    Jazz? This is funk!! =D

  • Beautiful Fender Jazz Bass that he's playing is what I meant lol. No I agree that's definately funk.

  • Sweet. What type of bass is that?

  • Looks like about a '74 Fender Jazz Bass. And the shirt distracted me, too. Great playing, tho'!

  • itelligent comment..

  • hahaha :)

  • If you hate bass then how can you say that its good?

  • Because, he's a moron lol.

  • bass owns guitar

  • hell yeah!

  • @Jonny620 And the guitarist can only bow down if he actually got owned by a bassist

  • yeah! good job

  • you are amazing my friend.... if had one wish it would be that i take all your talent...

  • creator of the Slap bass technique.

  • Thanks

  • i know who larry graham is but i didnt no he INVENTED slap thats awesome thx

  • Excuse me for trying to learn something!

  • He is not just the creator of slap bass, he also was the bass player for Sly & the Family Stone, then later he started Graham Central Station. Then He went on to have a very successful solo career.

  • Fremragende!

Det er virkeligt også en mega funky bassline :)

  • good playin .... bad microphone or someting... keep on the good work ;)

  • i like that. where is the country & western part from?

  • this is very good playing, only bad thing is that your amp sounds pretty bad. with a good amp this would be amazing

  • Please do tab

    I have the jist

but not all of the fine details

  • Σd(゚∀゚d)oh yes!!!

  • sweet! can you tab it please?

  • what amp is that, a plastic bag?

  • HAHAHAHAAHAH

  • LOLOLOL

  • ha ha but u don't need much of an amp when u sound as good ad this dude does on bass

  • GOOD ONE!!

  • should be a 6 star rating....oh yeah, excellent fashion statement also..

  • Just goes to show you can sound great without an amp. :p

would of been better if you had stood tho ;o

  • ew. you are really good but it sounds like you are playing through a guitar amp or completely unplugged. horrible sound. great style.

  • At the time crappy computer monitors:-D

  • Nice!!

  • Wow dude, your good slap basser :P

  • Wow! 5 stars from me. This kid is talented. I like his style. Nimble and effective.

  • Imo, this tone is horrible for slapping. Too metallic, not enough oompf.

  • ha ha , i really love these comments, can't you you guys hear that its just an almost acoustic sounding bass in a boomy room. Speaking of tone - hrrrmppp! ;-)

  • getting these kinds of comments is all a part of the magic of the internet. :)

Sometimes we forget to just sit back appreciate nice things without being critical.

  • @MarloweDK you tell em marlowe

those guys are douche bags and don't even understand that the bass is played acoustically!!

  • I was reffering to his other videos where he has an awesome sound. He just in a bad room for playing here and it sounds like hes playing out of computer speakers. If you watch his other vids he gets amazing sound with that fender jazz.

  • What kind of bass is that? The knobs remind me of a Fender j-bass...

  • thats strange, maybe it is?

  • haha i love the sarcasm. another nice one my friend. about the korg pandora you use. Does that totally replace an amp or can you run sound through there to your amp and use it as an effects pedal?

  • I dont use an amp recording videos at home.

I saw a bassplayer using it as a preamp/monitor on a gig where he had to use the PA system. I wouldnt use it as a "effects pedal" live, unless yuo only use 1 setting

  • ok thats what I thought thanks for the info. One more quick question which you probably get all the time. How do you get such a nice slap tone? Aside from hitting the strings correctly and the proper string gauge. I cant get that good of a tone if my life depended on it

  • compression does the trick

  • so something like a boss lmb-3 should work?

  • LOVE it!

  • Can you please post a tab/notation?

    It was awesome. :)

  • Go head brother Risell!

Sounding freaking great. That's why you my bass playa!

I'll maybe make a video of a Tribute to Fred Wesley on the bone?

    Al

  • you bastard!

  • dude awesome. can you give me the tab

  • funky as fucking hell! u rock bro! nice job with the muting adds alot of funk

  • holy crap,i want to learn that

  • tabs suck sheetmusic is way better. tabs are for losers who are too lazy to learn to read music

  • tabs don't suck and people like me aren't too lazy to read music. I think it's actually fun to use tabs instead because when you try to figure out the articulation of the notes you listen to the music very carefully and you get it better that way.

  • they both suck, learn to play by ear!

  • dude that shirt along is homeage enough to the funkiest man on the planet..keep up the good work, bro.

  • wow.. good playing! Hmmmm, have been searching for the tabs of POW. Anyone kind enough to email me a copy if ya have? guitarsiao@hotmail

  • just as i thought...phuck hue hasn't a video posted of his/her playing

  • Yes, the closed D to E vibration is much more efficiant.

But the point is that...musicians who play for the AUDIENCE know that they can't tell nor give a rats ass wether you played an open D or not.

Geez, there are so many pretentious numbnuts on this site. And, often, when you check their own sites, their not very good (haven't looked at phuckhue's yet but i'm so curious) Jimminy Christmas....

    Awesome work dude...all of it

  • Thx, man :-)

And you're right, LG plays both variations

  • I too think phuckhue can go phuck him/herself. music is such a free form of expression. I've seen Larry HIMSELF play this song with/without the open string. I've also seen him play it very, very sloppily.

    !

  • i love you

  • I think that PhuckHue can go Phuck himself. Your version is on point. All of the notes are there, but what I believe he's referring to is when Larry Graham does the D to E back to back he does the first one on the open D string then the 2nd on the A string. Your way is more efficient.

  • ahh ok, mystery solved..

    And Thx :-)

  • you danish?

  • jepper:-)

  • OH MY GOD! Tab that and I'll give you my life savings!

  • squier! (i have that same bass!!:D)(i think its a squier isnt it?)

  • Fender Jazz bass approx 1969-70

  • 1 word... Awesome! :)

  • if you going to play Pow at least play it right. you are missing the open string riffs

  • Please correct me then, where is / what is the "open string riff"?

And as I stated - it is "my" version of pow, so please - please forgive me ;-)

  • Nice playing! (:o)

  • Do you have a link to the sheet music? I found one the other day and now that i want to translate it i cant find it again.

  • u go girl

  • Wow that was nice! Wsa there a drummer too? it's hard to tell.

  • No just me and my foot stompin' :-)

  • crap everyone plays this song better than me...

  • That was brilliant, and I love to hear that you dont do tabs, I'm still trying to get away from that little phase in my life!

  • Thx :-)

Isnt tab something you have in a bar?;-)

  • lol. no, tabs (when it comes to guitars) are a way of showing you how to play certain songs on guitars, look up 'guitar tabs' in google and you'll see. maybe... you might need some help understanding them if you've never dealt with tabs before. but basically, tabs are most people's way of learning songs by their favorite artist.

  • oh shit.. i feel like a total dumbass... i didn't realize... ahh nevermind. lol. go ahead, call me a dumbass i don't care, lol.

  • Happens to all of us sometimes, when we're a little to quick on the keys :-)

But you meant it in a good spirit

  • whooo-wee, you rocked that shit nice job. 5/5 for me.

  • Hey Thanks for posting this. Can you send me a link to the tab for this. Im pretty sure i can play it, even though i started out 5 months ago.

  • You're welcome

Dont do tabs im afraid, I see if i cand find the transcript I made once in standard notation

  • I'll have fun translating that for an hour. It would take me less time to base a tab off of the vid.
