  • Is it just me or is this game a million times better than Descent 3? same story with Master of Orion, I seem to remember.

  • The red book soundtrack for this entire game is AMAZING. I still listen to it.

  • 3:00-3:10: And THIS is the last thing you see before the title drops and the game asks you for your pilot name. This ship--YOUR ship--bursting into flames and EXPLODING in the most hardcore warp-out sequence in science fiction history. THIS GAME IS AWESOME.

  • I don't care if in-game graphics nowadays are better than the prerendered cutscenes of old, this still looks glorious.

  • i always did like the Pyro GX

  • Can't tell you how many times I used to watch that growing up

  • @durandal, you and me both. Not that shocking, actually. I wrote a 24 page paper with this intro in 2nd grade. I think there was only one page of actual creative content, and I'm SURE I fucked up some words. I want to find that now.

    I.... I CAN'T!

  • >not including that awesome Interplay logo with the laser/stone thing that was just as epic

    >i_am_disappoint.png

  • 8 People did not use the guide bot.

  • Music is called "Base Return" and is a remix of the music on D1 Level 20.

  • C'mon Dravis, you got what you want. Give these people air!!

  • @nightventure Total Recall Reference. haha. nice.

  • @zinki120 lol

  • Poor poor material defender.

  • sound like Tatal Recall with Arnold

  • The music reminds me a bit of Total Recall. Great intro to a great game

  • Damn, I can't believe I still have every word of this memorized.

  • @Durandal1717 I was just thinking the same thing. All the inflections, the tones, the pacing... God, I remember playing this on a demo disc that came with my brand new AST Advantage.

Oh DOS, you were so wonderful.

  • Dravis, you sonofa...!

Thumbs up if you started thinking about your descent 2 installation cd when you saw this. I'm sure I'm not alone.

  • @Freyelise Installation CD? I wonder where my installation floppy discs.

  • Epic game!!!!!!! best of olds...

  • There is a lesson I learned from this game. STUDY YOUR EMPLOYMENT CONTRACTS CAREFULLY!

  • this is probably the best game at its time. interplay was one of the best publisher/developers at that moment, ewj, this, mdk, and MAX. too bad it went bad for them.

hope they remake this. not much spaceship based game this day.

  • Thief bot took mah job!

    What? He took his job!

    Dey tks jab!!

    Drr tkk drp!

    *Cocka-doodle-doo!*

Sorry :D I had to do it :P

  • im not sure but is there a maze like level

  • This brings back so many wonderful memories...

  • Commence nostalgia...

  • I played this game when I didn't understand any of these words. I still loved playing it. Now that I understand the words, the plot becomes that much deeper.

  • IT SEEMS I'M THE ONLY ONE WHO LOVES DESCENT 3.

DON'T KNOW WHY, IT WAS AMAZING AND TOOK THE GAME TO A WHOLE NEW LEVEL.

  • Ahh memories. One of the first games I got for my PC after I made the switch from Amiga...

  • I have play this game to mutch on my pentuim 133 MHz its is a good gam the best game ever make i know every thing about descent 2 descent 1 was not my game descent 3 sucks but the freespace series are good.

Thanks for making this game interplay!

    Cheers!

  • Woah and I thought only Blizzard made amazing cutscenes!

  • Il love this game. First Game i have play over modem ( 2400 Baud )

  • Played this game on Kali with my matrox mystique. 4 Megs of ram on that baby.

  • Loved these games, they should totally make some for PS3 or 360

  • @Sillyjake86 It wouldnt be the same :( For some reason I think these are made to be played on the Windows 95 or NT

  • @BarlytheDwarf True, it really was a one time hitter, but still an amazing game, amazing soundtrack.

  • "Bell Hell Tower docking control to unidentify approaching vessel. State your intented course and identify yourself" .... "Vertical 1 you are clear for docking bay 3."

.... "Vertical 1 proceed to jump point Alfa." ...." Initiate to jump presequence"...

"Vertical 1 you are clear to proceed to Zeta Aquilae"

  • @SnakeEyes1337 Vahalla Tower ; Vertigo-One. Can't remember the exact bit, but at the very start, Hawk-eye three and Vahalla tower are discussing the bases you destroyed in the first game :P

  • the fuckn memories

  • this game was awesooomeeeee

  • Oh cmon, I thought this was the intro of the MOVIE The Descent 2! XDDD

  • I can still quote this entire thing.

  • oh god great memories here

  • I played this back when I was ten. Took a while to get the whole "six degrees of freedom" aspect, but it was probably one of my favorite games back then.

  • If there was one thing they knew how to do back then, it was cutscenes.

  • Love this game.

  • back in the day when the name interplay meant: a hell of alot of fun. by gamers for gamers.. sigh. same thing these days but the companies just use that to rip you off now.

  • I LOVE THAT GAME.

IT INFLUENCED ME IN A WAY, I WAS UNABLE TO UNDERSTAND BACK IN THOSE DAY AS A LITTLE CHILD....................

    material defender

  • me neither LOL

I didn't know a single English word as a little child, back then, but it sounded kinda cool to me.

  • great game. period

  • yeah man. i used to play this before i really could comprehend what i was doing. my dad had it. so i would go around shooting flares on everything. hahaha

  • Wow, I played this game A LOT back then with my Diamond Monster 3D... it really blew me away and loved the improvements over the first game.

  • This blew my mind when I first saw it

  • @0871Atta it blows my mind even now

  • @0871Atta Me too!! one of the greatest game ever made!!!!!!!!

  • I had this game but the cd was cracked and it broke in half...I LOVED ThaT GaME!!!

  • cool story brah

  • voice is george del hoyo. the guy you hear introducing trailers of movies in theatres. awesome

  • to bad he died :(

  • @MCPOJohn I thought that was Don Lafontaine, not that other guy.

  • hmm maybe it was

  • who

  • i thought it was the dude that does the deep ish voice for movie trailers

  • no it's gorge del hoyo

he's the guy from comercials also

he does alot of difrent voices

he actually almost got homers voice over

  • "SOL" system.

    ROFL.

  • You do realize that Sol is the name of our sun, right? What's so funny about that?

  • I take it as "Shit Out of Luck"-system.

Which the pilot was at the end of this game.

  • You came out of the corner as a winner :D

  • In spanish SOL is the same that SUN...

  • SOLar system. ever hear of it?

  • Yes Beavis, yes I have.

  • they dont make em liek this no more. :(

  • This opening has such awesome music.. really nostalgic. ^^

  • On another note, not related to RBDcelestialToUr inability to be intelligent, does anyone know where I can download Descent 2? I've been searching high and low for it ever since i got my new computer (I lost my discs :( ) and its one of my favorite games ever. I've had no luck. Anyone got any ideas on where/

  • The pilot's voice sounds a lot like Robert Patrick.

  • Robert Patrick The T-1000 of Terminator 2

  • What 3 days for reserve right.

  • One of the best games eva made

  • One word for this game: perfect!

  • pero wtf is this

  • Well, you know how shit the rest of YouTube is? This is where all the awesomeness has gone.

  • Stop typing with your elbows, moron.

  • It's called talking in spanish,learn you're languages.

  • "pero [what the fuck] is this" is supposed to be Spanish? How the fuck am I supposed to tell that Pero isn't a name of someone, judging by your lack of proper capitalization or punctuation.

And "learn you're languages"? That should be a 'your' as in the possessive. Fuck, you're stupid. The irony is sickening.

  • raymoohackuray is clearly about ten times smarter then you. If you haven't realized that school is intended to prepare you for your actual life. Thus the reason governments spend a shit ton of money on education. If you only pay attention to proper grammar and other school related life skills while in school and never at any other time... then leave school. SOMEONE has to flip our burgers. Get to it. You don't seem that interested in more intelligence related paths.

  • sure will ^^

  • I haven't played this game in years, but amazingly I found myself quoting every word along with it perfectly again... I scared and shocked myself there...

  • me too. this brings back so many memories. :)

  • eh, i thought this was the movie ^^

  • The movie is coming...

  • descent 2 is verygood with intro movie scene.

  • I live this vid. You can make it by extracting the video file from the gamce CD into an exe with an application called veextract32. it creates a 132 MB executable file that plays the movie.

  • Such fond memories of the Descent games.

I remember buying this as a little kid for $45. Was the first game I ever bought with my own money. Well, well worth it, haha.

  • he he he, my dad bought it years ago. best money ever spent. still have my original disk too, thing has to be what, 12-13 years old?

  • As a little kid, I was so obsessed with the first Descent game, my days was sometimes all about it: I dreamt Descent (including nightmares - I did not qualify for the game's 11+ rating), went to school and discussed Descent, drew my own enemy robots, spent hours designing my own levels, and of course, I played and played and played some more. Windows 3.11.. Ahh, the memories...

And then, when my brother's friend got THIS game, and I saw this intro for the first time...

    MAN. It was pure MAGIC!

  • ME TOOO!!!!

  • i wholeheartedly agree with both of you! god what an amazing game.

  • same for me :s weird

  • I loved that game.....to bad mine got all scratched up and is pretty well unusable otherwise I still might play it occasionally.

  • Until now. I only saw this intro once, and I was about 6.

  • How do i get this game to work sinc eI have a downlaoded version of this witht ehvideo and the vertigo series. My graphics hcard is aroproblem but how di run this on dos and how do I get the sound to work?

  • i sure wish the ship your in was a real toy, id buy it

  • i would too

  • Descent 1-3 is so awesome ... i'm still looking for another game with a similar multiplayer mode

  • As a musician who is doing virtual orchestrated music now, I'm realy amazed to hear this again.I liked this game back in 1995; I'm just curious that , with samplers the way they were limited in memory, who could play with such a sampled orchestra like that. Sounds very good for the time

  • Because they cheated and used the CD for the music like it was an album.

Stick the disk in a CD player (not the PC drive but one for playing music) and you can listen to the music

  • interplay . com

  • What a game... So many good memories.

  • I always preferred 2 over all the rest. :)

  • Decent 3 was good, but decent 2 took the cake for me, i like its graphics better than 3 i dont know why..

  • Sorry for repeating myself, but Descents are Great!

  • is there any way to get this game nowadays?

  • you can probably download it somewhere

  • not download,torrent!

  • The most underrated game of PC history. The Descent series (excluding 3) still holds a special place in my memory. I wish it had recieved all the glamour it deserved instead of Doom hogging it all.

  • you didn't like descent 3?

  • It was alright for what it was, but it wasnt really true to the series which, for me, made it just another FPS Space themed game.

  • descent 1 and 2 were awesome descent3 was good but not near as good. descent 2 was definitely the best!!! favorite game of all time far better than halo or star wars.

  • Descent 3 strength was in its multiplayer.

  • I'll admit the single player version of Descent 3 wasn't that great, but did you ever play any multiplayer? THAT was seriously kickass.

  • duh its interplay but i want the origanal hud back

  • The initial music is partly taken from movie Total Recall. Btw great game!!!

  • The start resembles Total Recall credits music, but it is not "taken" from it.

  • That's what I thought the first time I saw this all those years ago!

  • Descent 2... What a great game, the memories...

  • My personal tribute to the great Pyro!

    s2f(dot)deviantart(dot)com(slash)art(slash)Pyro-GXS-26574700

Tell me what you guys think!

  • This intro is better than most movies out today. The CGI has also aged very well

  • BEST intro...EVER!

  • I always loved this intro

  • Back when intros used to psyche you up to play the game... I loved Descent II :)

  • Great intro

  • Love the dialogues :D

  • Man i freakin luv this game man! its the best ever!

That ship is far too cool to not be made into a model or a toy, man. i luv that ship

  • I agree. That is why I decided to do my own personal tribute to this ship that gave me so many hours of fun and stress (freaking reactor); give it a check, tell me what you think.

    s2f(dot)deviantart(dot)com (slash)art(slash)E-S-C-A-P-E-26908757

  • My single favorite cutscene from the Descent series of games. Ever. EVER.

  • WOAH! I haven't seen this in...10 years! I used to have every line memorize...this just brought back a flood of memories!

  • "I hope this is just a reconnaissance mission and nothing more." that line gives me shivers. awsome game for its time, and still is an awsome game

  • ptmc is full of bulls#%?

  • Still one of my favorite opening cinematics to a game. The voice acting was nothing the games of the day; this was top notch for its time...

  • I know. this game was so good at the time. Its a shame it never recieved the glory it deserved.

  • One of my favorite games of all better than halo3 even. I`d love to play it again.

  • I love that intro, it was like the first cinematic intro to a game I'd ever seen. Descent 3's intro is a little marred by the goofy lookin' characters. I always thought VERTIGO_1 was some kinda Han Solo bad ass but he's this skinny little pilot... kind of a let down...

  • I know what you mean ;)

  • a good game even though its old

  • PTMC reminds me of EA

  • rofl

  • Wow this game is old. When I was a kid, I remember tellin my older neighbor to come look at the intro cuz he almost says son of a bitch. He wasn't impressed. lol. Now I got GTA and evrything with all the profanity I can imagine.

  • Descent: Massively Underrated

    'Nuff said.

  • Piss off, dickhead.

  • You can say that again

  • I've always loved this intro. Great music, and a great series of games.

  • Sweet video, sweet game. to bad they dident make #4 though....

  • One of best intro ever!!!

  • One of the best intros for one of the best games. Nuff' said. I own the entire series, played every game, and this is my 2nd favourite cutscene.

  • In the demo the the Material Defender wonders if he left the cat enough food...

  • I remember when I first got this game. I was so damn happy that day that my dad actually filmed me installing it. I actually still have that video. I remember I called my best friend (who introduced me to Descent 1, and who LOVED these games) and I held the phone to the speaker when the intro played. And when D2 asked me for my pilot name I said, "COOOL!!!"

  • It's his own fault,he really should have read the contract though, shouldn't he have?

  • PTMC put in a bunch of loopholes

  • Great intro one of my favourite. I love that happy fly around the rocks

  • [Material Defender] "I've already fulfilled my contractual obligations, Dravis. I'm not doing any more of your dirty work."

[Dravis] "Ah, yes, your primary obligations have indeed been met, but if you study your Standard Mercenary Agreement, you'll notice the PTMC reserves the right to keep you on retainer for up to 72 hours, post-mission."

    [Material Defender] "Dravis, you son-of-a-!"

  • [Dravis]: "Welcome to Valhalla Tower, Material Defender. I trust your transit to this station was recuperative?"

[Material Defender] "Your concern is as underwhelming as ever, Dravis."

[Dravis] "We have traced the alien infestation's vector from our holdings in the Zeta Aquilae system, where we require you to

    gather reconnaissance information.

[Dravis] We are fitting your ship with a warp drive prototype for the jump to--"

  • [Computer] "Valhalla Tower Docking Control to unidentified approaching vessel. State your intended

    course and identify yourself."

[Material Defender] "This is Vertigo 1, on approach to PTMC outer-rim station MIL132. Request clearance to dock."

[Computer] "Vertigo 1, please confirm security clearance A7."

    [Material Defender] "Affirmative. Transmitting now."

[Computer] "Vertigo 1, you are cleared for docking bay three."

  • right, thank you for upload it! hehe

  • I was so excited when I bought this game, and yes, I had a P133 also :)

  • Thank you so much for uploading this. DRAVIS YOU SONNOVA! I remember it like it was yesterday... and yeah, the soundtrack rocks asses, I ripped it from the CD.

  • Thanks a LOT for upping that :)

  • IF U LIKE DESCENT II INTRO!

i swear u like this movie:

"Stickfights Gunguy IV Trailer" (search for)

  • The CD music (as opposed to the midi files) was a masterpiece at times. The tracks by Larry Peacock & Brad Cross, Brian Luzietti, and Mark Morgan are absolutely fantastic!

  • Brilliant. This game was the reason I bought a super fast P133 with 64 meg of ram and added a 4 meg Orchid Righteous 3d card way back when.I remember being blown away by the "movie" style intro.Brings back memories. Thanks for posting it.Now,where's that Terra Nova intro...

  • Oh, Memory Lane... How Moore's Law has made those old memories seem so insignifcant...
