bah It always comes back to the reliability, from my experience, I rarely seen an M16 type rifle jam (and before its in question, Infantry Marine with deployments to falliuja and ramadi, so i think we agree that we shot alot). And my own AR15, I ran 1000's of rounds through it. Mostly Steel. And Never had a Jam other than shitty steel ammo malfunctions. (all without cleaning), With Modern AR15 Type rifles are so beyond the Vietnam era Rifles. Reliability is pretty much out of the question

He observed over 100 US Marines in 12 different firefights & observed 1 failure to fire & that was when the grunt fell into a sewage ditch but he managed to have his rifle firing again in 3 seconds. Chivers also noticed a curious trend he couldn't find any marines identiified by name complaining about reliability problems to interview.

2 things about the AK47's recoil & loose tolerances it makes it less accurate, yes, but it also makes as close to being a self-cleaning rifle as you can get in the real world. It shakes dirt etc when it shoots. When you get into an AK74 some of those properties are gone i.e. 7mm recoil & tolerances are a bit tighter so it's not going to be quite as reliable as an AK47. I don't mean it's going to have poor reliability but compared to the original AK47 it's not going to be as good.

What I want is a video of AR10 vs AK74, kind of a reversal & AUG vs AK+AR. So many guns, so little money. BTW, read the text Nutn wrote. It's spot on IMO. I see AKs as being "people's gun". No extensive training or maintenance needed. The AR is a great system too but it requires more from the shooter e.g. maintenance + accessories maximize its strong points.

You'll definitely change your mind when you see that the polymer stock is far more durable than wood & a whole lot of other things about the AR system. Why do you compare AK-47 with AR-15(M-16)? It's like comparing snowmobile with a quad.The caliber is different and the purpose. A better compassion would be AK-74 vs AR-15 but still not the same category. The AR-15 is delicate weapon that needs to be loved in order to shoot but still fun.

I've dropped my M4 out of a HH-60 when I was accidently tangled up on a rescue line. Fell almost 15 meters. Works just fine. And the AVERAGE chrome lined steel barrel that most M4/AR's use have a barrel life of about 35,000 rounds. Barrel life is over when the rifle loses its accuracy at 100 meters, but it will continue to fire just fine. Seriously folks, get a clue.
That looks like an ak104 because my cousin he's an ex spetznas he used an ak and he said the 104 is easier and long lasting because the mag holder it's not wooden so it won't rust, instead it's plastic.

Great series! I myself still think the AK overall has the more pros than cons. My favorite pro is the reliability. I rifle I could practically pee down the barrel and dump in a pool of motor oil to clean is just the type of rifle I would be more particular to trust my life to. I love the AR's ergos, but like you said with practice I believe it would efficient. I also think engagement would be at closer round so I would opt for the 762x39 and the rounds are easily found unlike the 6.8SPC. Thanks!

@HunterKiller308 While keeping a weapon clean is important I would not want to have to think about it during a conflict. My POU for engagement of these weapons are within the 300 meter range, in urban situations. There fore I would take the obstacle defeating capabilities and sheer mass over the smaller 556 cartridge *my personal opinion* The ergoes of an AK is primarily a training issue, but overall they are not as easy as an AR.
@EvanN108 I would also dispute the claim that it is not for marksman. AK have the potential to be accurate and a marksman should not be claimed by the gun he uses as much as the person themselves.
@EvanN108 you are not in a constant state of action when in combat, you would go crazy if you were, clean you weapon at night or when ever you have down time. in general you only need to clean your ar every 1000 rounds, and no rifleman is going to go through near that much in any engagment. keeping the weapon lubed is the critical thing, you never want to run it dry, it only take 2 seconds to squeeze some in the bolt but it goes dry quicker than you might think, the more lube the better
@EvanN108 the main two types of combat in dence built up areas like urban and jungle are meeting engagments (where you literally bump into each other, you both have the element of supprise) and the ambush (one bumps into the other but you know hes coming) so basically whoever puts out the most fire wins, and the ability to carry more than 3x more 5.56x45 over 7.62x39 is a MAJOR advantage when your dumping mags into the tree line or windows, my biggest fear on a battlefeild is running out of ammo
@EvanN108 the ergos of the AK are not a training issue, its a mechanical issue. for instance having to take your hand off fire controll to drop a mag sucks big time. however you cant train to use anything well. the AK is not in any way shap or form a marksmans rifle, its more or less a bullet hose, there is a world of differance between 4 MOA and sub MOA, especially when your trying to take out a threat thats using hard cover at any kind of distance, when you NEED to hit a small area like a head

I know that AR are more accurate but if you plan on having the suppressing fire engagements I'd rather have impact of the 7.62. Also, if a figured ammo to be the biggest problem I would opt for the AK74 and not the 47, it would just simply depend on what I am using the weapon for, but for my POU I prefer theAK
You do know the 5.56, M855A1 round is a more damaging round than the 7.62 the 47 uses right, even more so than the 7.62 NATO? And the 74 round is worse than both.

Sounds like you are talking about the AR... The M855A1 isn't a speciality round its the round issued to every American service man or woman armed with a 5.56 rifle or carbine.
@splinter360 ARs come in everything for 22lr to 50bmg and other more modern assault rifle rounds such as the 6.8 SPC and 6.5 Grendle
when a 5.56x45 has enough velocity (generally about 150 meters) it will create a cavity many times larger than the 7.62x39,that means a faster bleed out and more dramatic drop in blood pressure. all those little fragments creat multiple wound channels and are a nightmare for surgions to pick out. see yourself look at a ballistic chart, i have one on my channel
And thats only using the 5.56 M855 round. The M855A1 actually is more damaging and has better penetration than even the 7.62x51 (.308) round. And the M855A1 round has FAR better ballistics than the 7.62x39.

The M855A1 is a great round but to say it, or any other mis sized assault rifle round in any loading even comes close to the material destruction and cavitation in soft tissue produced by a 7.62x51 is extremely ignorant. take a look at the Terminal Shock for instance, its a 308 that will fragment inside a target much like a 5.56...only many times larger
You haven't done much research on the M855A1 round. Please read up on it, it SPECIFICALLY was selected because it has superior destruction of materials at 100 yards, and was designed to eliminate the yawing effects in tissue that the M855 did, and was showing to be more damaging than even the M80 round.

I actually own two AK-74's and only one AR-15. The AK-74 is more like an AK-47 than an AR-15. And the AR-15 is still FAR more upgradable and far more accurate.

One of my AK-74's is Russian and the other is Romanian, the Romanian seems to have better fitting, and doesn't rattle as much as the Russian, and shoots a little more accurately at 100 yards. Both are mostly useless at 300 yards. The ONLY Chinese rifle I own is a SKS (Techincally a Type 56).

correct me if im wrong. a big discussion is caliber and stopping power. with the ak you have better initial power. often though a round could go right through with a clean cut and not as much chance of a critical injurie. with m16,ar,m4, etc you have a lower initial impact damage. BUT, since its not going to go straight through(usually) and the 5.56 is designed to tumble and it tears more tissue. u have a larger chance a causin a serious injurie and putting them down. maybe not a kill but down.
I have had both in fact I traded my mak 90 for a rock river lar15 I like both guns both are great only reason I traded is to try something new the ar is more accurate and the am more destructive but both fun so pick what you like and rock and roll when push comes to shove they both spit lead and put zombies to bed
Actually the AK-74 is worse, mostly due to the round it fires. THe AK-107 is just an updated version of the 74. Both are still built on lower tolerance builds than any AR-15.
@EvilxMerlin Wrong buddy. The AK-107 is NOT an updated 74. It uses an entirely different gas system known as the BARS gas system, which counteracts recoil toward the muzzle for better balance and less felt recoil. The "A" in that "AK" doesn't even stand for Avtomat either, it stands for Alexandrov so it's technically not even an AK. It's derived from the AL-7 series rifles and designed by a totally different guy.
Go back and learn your history.The AK-74 was the basis for the 101 (and 100) thru 105 weapon systems The 107 and 108 are based of of the AK-101. Its just like the new gas piston based AR's, they may use a new technology to charge the weapon, but they are STILL based on the Stoner rifle. Even the new AK-200 is still based off of the AK-47 family. the K in AK still stands for Kalashnikov.

As for "lower tolerance" - AK-47/74 is a weapon for mass use. Reliable, simple, deadly. If there will be a war, every man will be armed with one of these.

ak47 is definitely more durable and a bit more powerful, but it is cheap and simple. An ar-15 is much more accurate, and can hit targets much further away, and is all around better engineered. Also I own an AK because for me it's more suitable since I plan to hike in and do shooting thus I needed a gun that can deal with little or no maintenance and still work, plus still have a lot of options for modification since it's no often you find a gun thats perfect from the start.
Thou i would have gotta piston AR if I was a maintenance ready person since a modern piston AR is rather reliable and durable, plus it's more accurate and accuracy makes the kill not the power of the blow.
I hate people that say one is better the the other, because they both are great weapons and because they are of two different generations and are of two different type of warfare, thus you might as well compare a handgun to a LMG.
The comment's I've posted are based on my own experience, not something I read. Each person has a right to an opinion. Is your opinion based on what someone has told you or have you personally tested the weapon and cartridge? I posted a video shooting my AK @ around 600 yds hitting the target and doing damage. That's proof enough for me.
Now, if you are using 7.62x39 in hollow point, and I don't know why the fuck you wouldn't if given the choice, it will do much, much uglier things, because the hollow point actually causes it to slow down and deal more damage to the target.
But in a military setting or if you're using milsurp or FMJ ammunition, the 7.62x39 actually deals less tissue damage (in soft tissue) than 5.56 FMJ due to the 5.56's fragmentation (although not if 5.56 fails to fragment)
If the 7.62x39 was reliably tumbling in soft tissue, that would be different because 7.62 is a significantly longer round than the 9mm, but the 7.62x39 often does not tumble reliably in soft tissue, and this particular gel test I saw used a round that did not tumble in soft tissue. Both rounds just shoot straight through the target, overpenetrating and leaving very little tissue damage in spite of the huge difference (almost 2 to 1) in terms of velocity.
If all guns shot the same at the range, then career snipers and designated marksmen would be shooting AK-47s and submachine guns.
In fact, in practice designated marksmen use 7.62 NATO in the US army and 7.62x54R in the Russian army, in highly accurized firearms that shoot from the factory less than 1.5 MOA, better than the standard achieved by either the AR-15 or the AK-47 on average.
I mean, for god's sake, Lapua wouldn't exist if not for target shooters.

If not then it is basically a AK derivation rechambered for the 5,56mm, with some nice improvements mostly in the ergonomics department. My company used it during our tour in Afghanistan and I have to say that I am very pleased with it.
I'll take the ar and get a different upper or just a .30 cal barrel and shoot 300 ACC Blackout hand loads or remingtons about $14 a box using either the 9inch subsonic 220 grain (1000fps)suppressed, or a 125 -147 grain (2300fps) in a 16 inck barrel ...talk about options and pou with just switching a barrel or an upper !

It's definitely looking the the AR is a better option for me with everything from modifications (I do like the second kind of cool) to the greater accuracy at long ranges, which I prefer to shoot at (though a sniper I am not) and even the higher maintenance since I enjoy working on my guns. When I bought my AK (saiga) it cost $360 the lowest cost on an AR was $850. From what I've seen that hasn't changed much. I will admit that I've sunk a lot of cash into that Saiga about $1K but that includes 7 mag's. I could have used the gun as it came off the shelf but I wanted to add to it as funds were available. You can check out my personal gun @ AK 600yds. I took a nice buck @ 275yds w/ that rifle and in my video it shows the AK's versatility.
I don't understand how on Value the advantage wouldn't be AK? I don't know about your markets but it seems like basic models of either weapon system the AR-15 style rifle is double the cost of the AK style weapon system.
Anyhow, I couldn't agree more it comes down to user preference. For me for a world end/zombie apocalypse, I want the AK. For possible hunting (with a larger caliber say 6.8 spc) I want the AR-15 for the accuracy and versatility.

Dear Mr. Fancy; I'm sure the AR is a fine gun but my AK is no less accurate. The round fired from the AK is so far superior to the standard AR that there is no comparison. The cost of an AR compared to the AK is a joke, double the price and 1/2 the penetration. Accuracy comes from the shooter not the gun. I do enjoy your video's but I don't agree with you on this. @thebastard1958 even a high end AK with a milled reciver and RPK heavy barrel ($2500+)is not anywhere near as accurate as an mil-spec AR, you might get 3-2.5 MOA with match grade ammo.a high end AR can produce 0.5 MOA and less. ARs also have for greater recoil managment, gonomics,effective range and modularity ou obviously dont know anything about rifles and your talking out your ass.ARs uppers come in just about every caliber you can think of, plus 5.56 is for more lethal than 7.62x39 or 5.45
@thebastard1958 From a 20" barrel, a standard 55gr (M193) 5.56 round does considerably more damage than a 7.62x39 fired from an AK due to the effects of yawing and fragmentation.. It can be "under powered" at longer ranges or from SBR's, but that's exactly why the new Mk318 SOST round has been developed. It is extremely expensive compared to surplus 7.62 stuff, but it does perform considerably better as well.. Plus, the Russians went from the 7.62 to the much smaller 5.45 for a reason..
@thebastard1958 I understand what you're getting at, however for a gun that isn't a "parts AK" ie an Arsenal, you're in the same range as an AR. But going back to the ballistics, for penetration, sure AK has more, but the AK is not as accurate at farther ranges as the AR is. They all have their place, and I have both, and thoroughly enjoy both, (didn't think I'd buy an SGL until I fired a friend's) but everyone needs to understand the limits of each weapon system.
What the fuck are you talking about? If you go to nutn's final video he actually lays out the ballistics charts. The 7.62x39mm round loses its velocity more quickly, meaning it drops more quickly at range.
Accuracy does have something to do with the gun, some guns shoot factory standard under controlled conditions a tighter group.
Also, 7.62x39mm terminal ballistics in FMJ are essentially identical to 9mm pistol ammunition.

@Redfingers i looked for the video, but i didn't find it. all the research i have done has shown me that the ballistics are different. the diameter of the bullet has little to do with the wound and cavity size. velocity, weight and design are more important. i have hunted with 22lrs and 223 fmjs, the wounds are drastically different. if everything you said was true, the entire us military must be dumb for using 223 fmjs for the past 50 years.

@Redfingers I saw the vid you sent me, and I do agree that when using FMJ's the potential of all calibers is limited. However the biggest reason the military uses the 556 is they can carry more rounds and it's accurate. Shot placement and the number of shots is more important that caliber/round differences. In Afghanistan the 556 doesn't always take targets down with 1 or 2 shots, that's what mags are for :)

bah It always comes back to the reliability, from my experience, I rarely seen an M16 type rifle jam (and before its in question, Infantry Marine with deployments to falliuja and ramadi, so i think we agree that we shot alot). And my own AR15, I ran 1000's of rounds through it. Mostly Steel. And Never had a Jam other than shitty steel ammo malfunctions. (all without cleaning), With Modern AR15 Type rifles are so beyond the Vietnam era Rifles. Reliability is pretty much out of the question

He observed over 100 US Marines in 12 different firefights & observed 1 failure to fire & that was when the grunt fell into a sewage ditch but he managed to have his rifle firing again in 3 seconds. 2 things about the AK47's recoil & loose tolerances it makes it less accurate, yes, but it also makes as close to being a self-cleaning rifle as you can get in the real world. It shakes dirt etc when it shoots. When you get into an AK74 some of those properties are gone i.e. 7mm recoil & tolerances are a bit tighter so it's not going to be quite as reliable as an AK47. I don't mean it's going to have poor reliability but compared to the original AK47 it's not going to be as good.

I've dropped my M4 out of a HH-60 when I was accidently tangled up on a rescue line. Fell almost 15 meters. Works just fine. And the AVERAGE chrome lined steel barrel that most M4/AR's use have a barrel life of about 35,000 rounds. Barrel life is over when the rifle loses its accuracy at 100 meters, but it will continue to fire just fine. Seriously folks, get a clue.

Great series! I myself still think the AK overall has the more pros than cons. My favorite pro is the reliability. I rifle I could practically pee down the barrel and dump in a pool of motor oil to clean is just the type of rifle I would be more particular to trust my life to. I love the AR's ergos, but like you said with practice I believe it would efficient. I also think engagement would be at closer round so I would opt for the 762x39 and the rounds are easily found unlike the 6.8SPC. Thanks!

My POU for engagement of these weapons are within the 300 meter range, in urban situations. There fore I would take the obstacle defeating capabilities and sheer mass over the smaller 556 cartridge *my personal opinion* The ergoes of an AK is primarily a training issue, but overall they are not as easy as an AR.

@EvanN108 you are not in a constant state of action when in combat, you would go crazy if you were, clean you weapon at night or when ever you have down time. in general you only need to clean your ar every 1000 rounds, and no rifleman is going to go through near that much in any engagment. keeping the weapon lubed is the critical thing, you never want to run it dry, it only take 2 seconds to squeeze some in the bolt but it goes dry quicker than you might think, the more lube the better

@EvanN108 the main two types of combat in dence built up areas like urban and jungle are meeting engagments (where you literally bump into each other, you both have the element of supprise) and the ambush (one bumps into the other but you know hes coming) so basically whoever puts out the most fire wins, and the ability to carry more than 3x more 5.56x45 over 7.62x39 is a MAJOR advantage when your dumping mags into the tree line or windows, my biggest fear on a battlefeild is running out of ammo

@EvanN108 the ergos of the AK are not a training issue, its a mechanical issue. for instance having to take your hand off fire controll to drop a mag sucks big time. however you cant train to use anything well. the AK is not in any way shap or form a marksmans rifle, its more or less a bullet hose, there is a world of differance between 4 MOA and sub MOA, especially when your trying to take out a threat thats using hard cover at any kind of distance, when you NEED to hit a small area like a head

@splinter360 ARs come in everything for 22lr to 50bmg and other more modern assault rifle rounds such as the 6.8 SPC and 6.5 Grendle
when a 5.56x45 has enough velocity (generally about 150 meters) it will create a cavity many times larger than the 7.62x39,that means a faster bleed out and more dramatic drop in blood pressure. all those little fragments creat multiple wound channels and are a nightmare for surgions to pick out. see yourself look at a ballistic chart, i have one on my channel

The M855A1 is a great round but to say it, or any other mis sized assault rifle round in any loading even comes close to the material destruction and cavitation in soft tissue produced by a 7.62x51 is extremely ignorant. take a look at the Terminal Shock for instance, its a 308 that will fragment inside a target much like a 5.56...only many times larger

Please read up on it, it SPECIFICALLY was selected because it has superior destruction of materials at 100 yards, and was designed to eliminate the yawing effects in tissue that the M855 did, and was showing to be more damaging than even the M80 round.

One of my AK-74's is Russian and the other is Romanian, the Romanian seems to have better fitting, and doesn't rattle as much as the Russian, and shoots a little more accurately at 100 yards. Both are mostly useless at 300 yards. The ONLY Chinese rifle I own is a SKS (Techincally a Type 56).

correct me if im wrong. a big discussion is caliber and stopping power. with the ak you have better initial power. often though a round could go right through with a clean cut and not as much chance of a critical injurie. with m16,ar,m4, etc you have a lower initial impact damage. BUT, since its not going to go straight through(usually) and the 5.56 is designed to tumble and it tears more tissue. u have a larger chance a causin a serious injurie and putting them down. maybe not a kill but down.

Actually the AK-74 is worse, mostly due to the round it fires. THe AK-107 is just an updated version of the 74. Both are still built on lower tolerance builds than any AR-15.

It uses an entirely different gas system known as the BARS gas system, which counteracts recoil toward the muzzle for better balance and less felt recoil. The "A" in that "AK" doesn't even stand for Avtomat either, it stands for Alexandrov so it's technically not even an AK. It's derived from the AL-7 series rifles and designed by a totally different guy.

Go back and learn your history.The AK-74 was the basis for the 101 (and 100) thru 105 weapon systems The 107 and 108 are based of of the AK-101. Its just like the new gas piston based AR's, they may use a new technology to charge the weapon, but they are STILL based on the Stoner rifle. Even the new AK-200 is still based off of the AK-47 family. the K in AK still stands for Kalashnikov.

BTW, there is no such thing as an AK-100. The 100 series starts with the 101 and ends with the 105. 107/108 are from the AL-7 series of rifles, NOT the AK series which is why they didn't call the 107, the "106. Btw, the AK-200 was invented by Kalashnikov not Alexandrov. It's just a 74 with rails. Two different design(er)s guy.

Also I own an AK because for me it's more suitable since I plan to hike in and do shooting thus I needed a gun that can deal with little or no maintenance and still work, plus still have a lot of options for modification since it's no often you find a gun thats perfect from the start.
Thou i would have gotta piston AR if I was a maintenance ready person since a modern piston AR is rather reliable and durable, plus it's more accurate and accuracy makes the kill not the power of the blow.

Now, if you are using 7.62x39 in hollow point, and I don't know why the fuck you wouldn't if given the choice, it will do much, much uglier things, because the hollow point actually causes it to slow down and deal more damage to the target.
But in a military setting or if you're using milsurp or FMJ ammunition, the 7.62x39 actually deals less tissue damage (in soft tissue) than 5.56 FMJ due to the 5.56's fragmentation (although not if 5.56 fails to fragment)

If the 7.62x39 was reliably tumbling in soft tissue, that would be different because 7.62 is a significantly longer round than the 9mm, but the 7.62x39 often does not tumble reliably in soft tissue, and this particular gel test I saw used a round that did not tumble in soft tissue. Both rounds just shoot straight through the target, overpenetrating and leaving very little tissue damage in spite of the huge difference (almost 2 to 1) in terms of velocity.

If all guns shot the same at the range, then career snipers and designated marksmen would be shooting AK-47s and submachine guns.
In fact, in practice designated marksmen use 7.62 NATO in the US army and 7.62x54R in the Russian army, in highly accurized firearms that shoot from the factory less than 1.5 MOA, better than the standard achieved by either the AR-15 or the AK-47 on average.
I mean, for god's sake, Lapua wouldn't exist if not for target shooters.

When I bought my AK (saiga) it cost $360 the lowest cost on an AR was $850. From what I've seen that hasn't changed much. I will admit that I've sunk a lot of cash into that Saiga about $1K but that includes 7 mag's. I could have used the gun as it came off the shelf but I wanted to add to it as funds were available. You can check out my personal gun @ AK 600yds. I took a nice buck @ 275yds w/ that rifle and in my video it shows the AK's versatility.

I don't understand how on Value the advantage wouldn't be AK? I don't know about your markets but it seems like basic models of either weapon system the AR-15 style rifle is double the cost of the AK style weapon system.
Anyhow, I couldn't agree more it comes down to user preference. For me for a world end/zombie apocalypse, I want the AK. For possible hunting (with a larger caliber say 6.8 spc) I want the AR-15 for the accuracy and versatility.

The cost of an AR compared to the AK is a joke, double the price and 1/2 the penetration. Accuracy comes from the shooter not the gun. I do enjoy your video's but I don't agree with you on this. The AR is an over priced under powered weapon. At 500yds the AR round doesn't have it if there's anything between you and your target

@thebastard1958 even a high end AK with a milled reciver and RPK heavy barrel ($2500+)is not anywhere near as accurate as an mil-spec AR, you might get 3-2.5 MOA with match grade ammo.a high end AR can produce 0.5 MOA and less. ARs also have for greater recoil managment, gonomics,effective range and modularity ou obviously dont know anything about rifles and your talking out your ass.ARs uppers come in just about every caliber you can think of, plus 5.56 is for more lethal than 7.62x39 or 5.45

@thebastard1958 From a 20" barrel, a standard 55gr (M193) 5.56 round does considerably more damage than a 7.62x39 fired from an AK due to the effects of yawing and fragmentation.. It can be "under powered" at longer ranges or from SBR's, but that's exactly why the new Mk318 SOST round has been developed. It is extremely expensive compared to surplus 7.62 stuff, but it does perform considerably better as well.. Plus, the Russians went from the 7.62 to the much smaller 5.45 for a reason..

@thebastard1958 I understand what you're getting at, however for a gun that isn't a "parts AK" ie an Arsenal, you're in the same range as an AR. But going back to the ballistics, for penetration, sure AK has more, but the AK is not as accurate at farther ranges as the AR is. They all have their place, and I have both, and thoroughly enjoy both, (didn't think I'd buy an SGL until I fired a friend's) but everyone needs to understand the limits of each weapon system.

What the fuck are you talking about? If you go to nutn's final video he actually lays out the ballistics charts. The 7.62x39mm round loses its velocity more quickly, meaning it drops more quickly at range.
Accuracy does have something to do with the gun, some guns shoot factory standard under controlled conditions a tighter group.
Also, 7.62x39mm terminal ballistics in FMJ are essentially identical to 9mm pistol ammunition.

For one thing, .223 and .22, if you can actually read, do math, y'know, that kind of thing, is actually the same diameter
the 9mm is actually larger than 7.62mm, and I know, it's hard, because you have to do arithmetic, but bear with me on this one.
I actually have a video on Youtube showing the 7.62 in FMJ striking ballistics gel and its profile and wound characteristics are the same as 9mm

@Redfingers i looked for the video, but i didn't find it. all the research i have done has shown me that the ballistics are different. the diameter of the bullet has little to do with the wound and cavity size. velocity, weight and design are more important. i have hunted with 22lrs and 223 fmjs, the wounds are drastically different. if everything you said was true, the entire us military must be dumb for using 223 fmjs for the past 50 years.

It actually has something approaching ideal terminal ballistics in FMJ, only surpassed to that end by the 6.8 SPC I think.
After a certain range, however, it loses the velocity to reliably fragment and thus won't exhibit a drastically different permanent cavity compared to a .22 LR
I exaggerated obviously and you're right that diameter has little to do with the wound, but I'm saying all things held constant

@Redfingers I saw the vid you sent me, and I do agree that when using FMJ's the potential of all calibers is limited. However the biggest reason the military uses the 556 is they can carry more rounds and it's accurate. Shot placement and the number of shots is more important that caliber/round differences. In Afghanistan the 556 doesn't always take targets down with 1 or 2 shots, that's what mags are for :)
