  • Hi buddy, I'm using 5d Mii taking events videos eg Weddings and Parties. What is the comparison between 17-40mm f4 & 16-35mm f2.8?

  • can i use the 24-70 for the canon t2i

  • so young to own expensive gear

  • @GanEdenVideo are you pretty much saying that just because we're young shouldn't mean we can afford all of this?

  • what lense are u using now in this video

  • Hello can you compare the 5d vs 7d many thanks

  • The EF 24-105 L Lens is my most-used landscape lens on a full frame camera. It has great image quality – at least as good as the 24-70, but these two are similar at the same aperture and focal length settings

  • I also shoot a D7 so not full frame...not sure if that changes your opinion on sharpness...will the 24-70 have better bokeh since its not shooting at full frame then say a 5d?

  • @AlternativeEnergyNC they're both extrememly sharp. Stop caring about how sharp they are and just shoot. if you actually see them not being sharp then thats a problem, but I doubt anyone actually sees these lenses as being soft. The people that do care way too much about technicalities and not enough about photography. Sure, some lenses ARE soft, but these 2 in particular are far from it. Thanks for watching and keep taking pictures!

  • I traded my F4 24-105 L for the 24-70 F2.8 Just curious which one is sharper at F4 ? I miss the 24-105 it was very useful...but since I have a 70-200 F2.8 L IS figured it made more sense to have the 24-70 to compliment it. I love primes but do not have the budget for both.

  • what lens are you shooting this video with?

  • @brandonallenfigueroa 17-40 f/4 L

  • @dipmvideos cool! thanks. what do you think is better? the 16-35 f2.8L or the one you're using the 17-40?

  • @brandonallenfigueroa The 16-35 is probably better but I've never used it so I can't say for sure.

  • 24-105 f/4 because of the IS. A must for shooting video.

  • Sorry to break it to you, but the 24-105 has a lot less color fringing and its is more sharp at f4 than the 24-70, It's like that all the way up to f5.6

  • @MisterZech I have both, and thats not what i've seen. maybe i have a bad 24-105. whatever the case is, I'm just sharing what i've experienced.

  • @MisterZech Thank you, I almost lost it when Niko said that nonsense about the 24-70 being sharper than the 24-105.

    THE 24-105 IS SHARPER!

  • @CEEPMDEE the 24-105 ist definitely sharper! You're right, I also tought the same like u!

  • thank you for this explains. I was searching for the difference between this two lenses.

  • My 2 cents:

2.8 is a crummy aperture, mainly because you aren't going to get the same bokeh or sharpness capability as a prime and the f/4 does have IS which allows you to kinda shoot in low light situations as long as your shutter speed doesn't go under 1/25.

Of course there is the sharpness advantage for stopping down the 24-70 over the 24-105 so yay! im confused on what to get again haha

  • Did you buy the 24-105 just to make this video? LOL

  • @M1sterHamilton bought the 105 more than a year before the 24-70 buddy.

  • is the 24-105mm good for wedding photography?

  • @XxSuddenlyPsychotic it could be. depends what body you're using, what lighting conditions there are, and your skill of course.

  • @XxSuddenlyPsychotic yes...and better for porn photography

  • Holy sh*t you are good!

  • Which one would be best for cinematogrpahy?

  • @skatepreme the 24-70 gives you the option for shallower depth of field, but IS comes in handy too. depends on what you value more.

  • @dipmvideos If I used primes for my DOF shots and I just need a zoom lens. Would the 24-105 be my best choice?

  • @skatepreme yup

  • @skatepreme lens without IS is definetly will be hard for cinematography, however you can use stabiliser and the other stuff.....I reccomend you 24-70. because the price selling is really good since many people like it, you can use for photography, and plenty other reason

  • thank you! you've been a big help. you definitely know what you're talking about

  • For BEST video quality what lens would any of you advise?

  • He's jealous dipmvideos. You don't have to explain yourself to this clown. One's f/4 and the other is an f/2.8, that's why idiot. "Why in the world are even commenting?

Don't watch the video you jealous MF.

  • Why in the world would you have a 24-70 and a 24-105? What a waste of money. It also shows that you really don't know what you're doing and you're just showing off your toys.

The 24-70 and a 70-200 would serve you much better.

  • @CabinFeverLures1 i actually take photos bud, i think i know what i'm doing.

  • @dipmvideos I haven't seen any. All I've seen is you bragging about crap your daddy probably bought you.

So if you've got a real reasons to have two nearly identical lenses that completely overlap focal length, please, inform me.

  • @CabinFeverLures1 firstly, i got the 105 as a kit with the camera more than a year before the 24-70. secondly, we have 2 5dII bodies and my brother uses the other one, he uses the 24-105 more. thirdly, for film, the IS helps, and the 24-70 ' have it. go to my flickr for my photos, the link is on my channel. i have more reasons, let me know if you wanna hear them.

  • Wow, so what kind of job do you have to buy these L lenses?

  • Could I use 24-105 to take photos of sport (basketball) from the sideline? It is good for that? Would you recommend me an other? Thx :)

  • Comment removed

  • Responder a este vídeo... Get the canon 70-200 f2.8, that will come perfect for basketball, PERFECT, and if you want you can buy the IS version

  • @RAAR3040 Thank you very much :)

  • I need your help here, I bought the 7D (body only) and I'm looking for to buy my first my first L. I will be using to take pics of the kids indoors and out, so for the 7D should I go for the 24-105 or the 24-70mm?

    I have the 50mm 1.4.

Thank you in advance for your help.

  • do you have a website with your pictures on it?

  • you should practice before you video it....

  • aah .. i like my 28-300mm sigma :p

  • Now - why can't we get a 24-105mm at F/2.8 :P

  • @u03agc4 haha yeah! but that would be one huge lens :P

  • hey dude,

is the sharpness of the 24-70 that big of a difference over the 24-105 ??

  • @AJBuenviaje not really, especially at smaller apertures

  • @dipmvideos

    ohh okk. thanks!

so it wont affect that much if i use this for nightclub right? ( i know the 2.8 is much a better choice but i use a flash most of the time so it doesnt matter) and finally its a great lens for everything and i know theres always a better choice of lens specialiste in any photography but i cant afford every lens for each scenario =)

great reviews pare! keep it up ;)

  • @dpimvideos hey i got an old vivitar lens thats 135 prime f/2.8 for the film camera i have...but any way i was just wondering is that good in todays standards.

  • So basically, is it worth saving up the extra month for the 24-70?

  • @what2doandhow2doit do you need the will you be using it at 2.8? if so, yes.

  • @dipmvideos thank you for responding. i will probably end up saving up for the 24-70 for film. thank you!

  • Excellent comparison there man. However I just bought the 24-70 because I always shoot at low light plus I also bought the 70-200 so i dont really care about the zoom part.

  • nice

  • Good overview, do you have any photo's of the same subject, one shot at F4 and one at F2.8. Just to see the difference between the two. Say at 50 MM, ISO 400. @dipmvideos

  • haha great ending :D

  • @IWANTNOMZ it is sharper but to most, the difference doesn't matter at all.

  • Can both of these lenses be used on the 7D? For someone starting out, is it worth while spending the extra money and 5DMkII over the 7D?

  • @serpentcharmer2006 yes they can. what are you looking for in a camera? get the one with the features that you want

  • Hey just wondering, does the 24-70 lens hood fit onto the 24-105 lens? I like the lens hood for the 70.

  • @HoyFilipinoBoy nope, sorry. i mean any lend hood that has a 77mm thread will fit but they cause vignetting on lenses that they're not for.

  • @dipmvideos okay thank you for replying :) loved the review.

  • @HoyFilipinoBoy no problem, and thanks

  • Hey bro, just discovered the channel, love it. Question though, If I'm using off camera flash in modeling work, would you recommend the 24-105, its gonna be my first big purchase and I figured I would get more use out of that then some of the other choices.

  • @ThePaisteTrout477 when you use lights, you shoot at higher f stops, so really, most lenses would do fine. the 24-105 would be perfect.

  • where have you got that expensive equipment??

  • LOL... 70-200 2.8.. is best for journalists.. and portraits.... IF! you want versatile lens.. I'd go for the 24-105... those people who says "Why have that lens when you can have the 70-200 F2.8" is ambitious.... or don't know what you're talking about... the reason I would choose 24-70 and 24-105 like he said "Depends what you shoot"!!! 70 normal focal zoom.. is annoying imo

  • I know you're right.. getting criticized by these noobs.. are just jealous you have those lens... I have the 24-70L and I love it... this people don't know jack... and hatin'... keep going bro!

  • @123gilly321 what do you mean? would you have know what I thought about the lenses before watching the video?

  • hey. i just have to ask. are you filipino?

  • @BIANCAohBIANCA yup!

  • Hello dipmvideos

I got a serious problem with my canon 7d.

Everything is working fine, but the sensor is not doing his job anymore.

When i shot a pic, only a black picture is shown on my screen. Before I didnt use my 7d for a couple of weeks. The older pics that are still saved on my memory card are shown on the display without any problems. The finder are doing good as well as the autofocus.

When i try to make a film, the result is also just black. The cap of my lenses are of course taken off

  • @ArtJorgeCom i think thats a big problem! seek help from a professional..on canon service centers

  • @ArtJorgeCom Your sensor could be defective... you need to send it back or get it replace from where you bought it....

  • spoiled bitch

  • you should do a review, hands-on. Like actually shooting with it and stuff. would be a lot more helpful, Please try too.

  • @theycallmeavijeet: lol... It wouldn't matter if he shoots hands on.. it's a video review... and it won't make any differents, the lens don't shoot beams btw.. so... to propperly review a lens is it's image quality through raw image demonstraition... you can't tell an image quality through youtube!!!.... peace!

  • Лошара))))))))))))

  • there are only two best lenses...24-70mm f/2.8 and 70-200mm f/2.8 (IS or non IS version ) ..period .

  • @paintusingthelight haha i guess you've never used any of canons L primes then :P

  • @dipmvideos Im not saying prime lense is not good...but if u are comparing 24-70mm f/2.8 against 24-105mm f/4...i would definitely go with 24-70mm coz maximum aperture opening to me is must more important especially if i am shooting in low light condition...and that`s also the reason why prime lenses are better because of their constant aperture which are...f/1.8,f/1.4 and f/1.2....not f/4 buddy...:P

  • @paintusingthelight whatevs, you said "there are only two best lenses...24-70mm f/2.8 and 70-200mm f/2.8 (IS or non IS version ) ..period"

  • are you a filipino?

  • @dipmvideos ok yung mga videos mo! thumbs up for Filipino photographers!

  • so the only advantage is that the 24-70 is a better lens!?! also why do you have bothe? what the fuck are you doing with the 24-107 when you could have a 70-200 2.8 for the same price. i just dont understand why you own bothe!?! have you got any photos as a comparrison or a website?

  • @kneeny1 i got the 24-105 way before the 24-70. they both have their uses. i'll do what i want, thanks.

  • @dipmvideos but why bother keeping it when you could sell it and get a better lens!?!? get a 70-200 2.8 and then you will have the whole range of pro lenses! the 2.8 canons are the best zooms you can get for canon so why have second best when you could easily have better!

  • @kneeny1 i've been considering doing that for a while now. might actually go it soon to fund a 85 1.2 or like you said, a 70-200. i've been using it a lot lately though, so i'm not sure yet.

  • @dipmvideos do you use a full frame or a cropped frame camera because the 85mm will be somthing like 115mm. the 85 is considered the best portrait lens, i have never used one but i have seen comparrison shots and its insane, but i have to say that as you said in this video the sharpest shots are not when the apperture is wide open and youl be shooting around 2 or 2.2 for portraits anyway. i use the 70-200 for weddings and i have to say its the one i use the most just because you can use it loads

  • @kneeny1 full frame. and im planning to shoot at 1.2 a lot. if not, why even get the 1.2? sure it might be "sharper" at lower apertures, but thats not really what i care for. when shooting at 1.2, its not sharpness you're looking for.

  • Love your T-shirt:)

  • @erik88bmx haha, thanks!

  • After days of research I am finally free! I really wanted to go for the 17 I was so upset that it didn't have IS but it's not a deal breaker like you said. You just saved me hundreds of dollars.

  • @Quadigy glad i was able to help!

  • same price range with just over $200 difference; interesting. Some kids are just retardtidly rich :/

  • @hdjkasdhah i'm 20... and in terms of photography gear, 200$ isnt too much, especially in this case. adding the extra can get you so much more.

  • @dipmvideos well in photography $5,000-$10,000 inst that much either. Adding lenses, strobes, power pack rangers, computers, accessories. add $10,000 if u got one 1ds and a second body like 5D; add few more if you hire assistant.

I was talking about a normal person, The hobbyist. Since pro can get his money back but hobbyist can't so for him $200 = one 50mm 1.8 II few other small things.

And I mean no offence bro, cheers :)

  • @hdjkasdhah its all good. believe me, i dont have that much money. i just put a lot of value in this stuff so i have to work hard to save a little bit more, and sacrifice other things in order to get some of this stuff. thanks for watching!

  • good work kid. keep it up.

  • Are you stupid ? We already know those shit , you should talk about sharpness... -_-

  • @BlackWallProduction He did mention sharpness, you ignorant bastard.

  • Hay Bailey, leave the kid alone dude...at least he tried to explain what he knew...If u r too smart, why don't u review them. If u r a good photographer u should know to appreciate other people's work..this is a great video, I made-up my mind to buy f4 lens thanks to this video...

  • so, the for night time shooting and indoor shotting 24-70 2.8 is better over the other one?

  • @cfhasib yup!

  • BORED.

  • @HEREONOUTBAILEY mkay.

  • @dipmvideos Your just babbling dude! No real help at all really apart from the obvious. You have explained nothing about weight or physical sizes of these lenses, focusing distance/speed either! Also you are comparing both of these lenses extremely wrong! I certainly wouldn't part with my cash after watching this video

  • @HEREONOUTBAILEY mkay. sorry it didnt help you, but i'm sure it helped others. really, does the focusing distance matter to most? i talked about what i thought was important in the lenses.

  • @dipmvideos No worries man! Yes, those other things I mentioned are very important when investing in any L series lens! Luckily I own both of the lenses you are comparing, not sure if you are aware of the poor quality control (rumor) on the 2.8 but I would choose the f.4 any day as it's the sharpest lens I own & of how versatile it can be in regards to focal length! It is fully capable of capturing great portraits at f.4 at 105, great DOF with a FF sensor :)

  • @HEREONOUTBAILEY i have, and i was really happy to find that mine was a good copy! i also agree that the 105 does an amazing job on the 5d!

  • @dipmvideos Do you have a Flickr account so I can check out your work?

  • @HEREONOUTBAILEY yup, link is on the channel! some of my newer work isnt too good though.

  • @dipmvideos You have some really nice work! Beautiful portraits :)

  • @HEREONOUTBAILEY thanks! :D

  • you don't know nothing about lenses, you don't know what you saying

  • @Dodik700 so what do i "not know"?

  • so jealous of US prices... so much more expensive in the UK :/

  • Nice job, what about for video? Is the 24-105 pretty good?

  • @DudeFromUkraine yup, its good!

  • @dipmvideos Worth every penny? Other cheaper option? Thanks!

  • @DudeFromUkraine video is a lot more forgiving because of the lower resolution compared to a still photo, so a cheaper lens would be able to do the job as well! i dont have any suggestions, but go out and try some lenses!

  • @dipmvideos Thanks man!

  • @DudeFromUkraine anytime!

  • Nice job

  • Comment removed

  • @mariansin i think i speak just fine.

  • We had 2 bad copies of the 24-105mm, it was really disappointing. The 3d one was luckily great. Though, the 24-70mm has been working like a charm for a long time. Great comparison! Finally someone who knows what he's talking about, and doesn't just yap about the basic information that are available from the company itself.

  • @TheDigitalPhotograph thanks so much! i'm happy i got good copies of both the lenses! hope the lenses are treating you well!

  • Good Comparison

  • @dashti442 thanks!

  • does the 24-70mm 2.8 has Full Time Manual Focus???

  • what about image stabilization in video? does the 24-70 show a lot of shake?

  • where did you find it for 1300?

i can only find it for 1500

  • haha at this focal length I don't get shaky hands...So which focal length causes you to get shaky hands? at 105mm I think even a little shake would be pretty visible but I still find it funny that you said at this focal length I don't get shaky hands

  • hi .. i want to as which lens will blur the background more ?if the 24-70mm is shoot at 70mm f2.8 and the 24-105mm is shoot at 105mm f4 ?

  • @rahkshi007 The 24-105 will give you a better Bokah (background blur) in comparison to the the 24-70, providing you have good light. However, if you are looking to receive a high quality blur in low light, the 24-70 is the way to go.

  • Comment removed

  • thankkkkk you that was very very helpful! :)

  • Ah... by the way what camera did you use for that, I mean the video. Cause if it is a 550d from Canon I have the same and i can't do it...

  • @TiToooTiT 5D2!

  • AHHH man did you get both? Money money...

  • good explanation!

  • kid, whats you age! :D

  • @monizeshan haha, i'm 20 :P

  • 25-105 IS provides 2 stops more light equivalent to f2.8 plus a longer focal length. But 24-70 is still sexier.

  • @KeijinShiho Could you explain where you're finding 2 extra stops in the 24-105mm lense?

  • @Mexico911 S, you can hand hold less preferable slower shutter speeds to recieve 2 stops extra exposure without a blurry photo compared to non-IS lenses.

  • @KeijinShiho Oh ok, that I'd agree with. I thought you were referring to a physical attribute of light. Agreed, 1-2 + stops with a steady hand.

  • @Mexico911 Dont underestimate the capabilities of Image Stabilisation. There is a reason why on lenses such as the 70-200 2.8 IS in which the price is an extra 1k.

  • Ya but which one is sharper? For the 24-104 you can always adjust the ISO in low light situations.

  • Comment removed

  • If you want to do video go the 105

  • @FlyinangeLproduction if you were to use only one lens, its a very good option i think.

  • @FlyinangeLproduction any lens would do. depends on the look you want. a "music video" isn't specific at all. i cant really recommend a lens based on just that. if you're asking if the 24-70 is a good lens for video, then yes.

  • @FlyinangeLproduction perfect? i dont think any lens is perfect for that. you need to try it yourself to figure out if its right for you.

  • I was unsure about what of both lens buy. Finally, I decided for the 24-70 mm f2.8 and I'm very happy with it. It's a very versatile lens that covers a lot of common situations, landscapes, portraits, typical tourism photos, and low light conditions, for example museums where no flash is allowed or evening shots. The construction quality is exceptional and it is very very sharp. Taking in account both things the focus distance and aperture I think this is more versatile lens than the 24-105mm

  • @falopio2007 it defiantly is an amazing lens. As to which is more versatile, it really depends on what you'll be using it for. Thanks for watching!

  • sillentkller9, just shut the fuck up already. nobody cares about what you have to say here. move your ass along as the majority here doesn't give a fuck what you say. you fucking first living abortion.

That being said, great review dipmvideos!! Keep up the superb work!

  • Dude im a professional photographer your clearly just some dumb fucking kid with to much money and no idea what the fuck he is talking about

  • @sillentkller9 alright, show me your stuff. i'll be the judge of that. its obvious since you have so much time to troll that you're no where near profesional.
