  • Hey Matt, have a good look at this and be like this again? If not, Chris and Dom, kick his arse.

  • Funny riff more like awesome riff

  • how the fuck is he doing those harmonics around 0:33 to 0:37 ?!?!??

  • @howardmoon1234 a pitch shifter called a digitech whamy pedal.

  • @MrMusecovers thank you, mystery solved haha

  • @howardmoon1234 no problem! there loads of fun! :D

  • @howardmoon1234 Digitech whammy!!

  • This has a hint of "Who knows who" in it..

  • @MrBuskaroo Jimi Hendrix

  • press 4 repeatedly for a jaws theme within a theme

  • Check out this riff.

  • press 4 repeatedly for jaws

  • haha yeah whammy pedal

  • "Check out this riff!" Love how Matt just randomly said it like that!

  • 0:38 would make a great poster

  • and this is why the digitech whammy is awesome. :D

  • so led zep :)

  • Tabs please.

  • sound like tom morello

  • awesome much

  • @jimbomansonmb1 @cantonezspere first off it's whammy +2 octaves. He couldn't have gone that high on the e string with only one octave. Second it's a les Paul double cutaway. (DC) second he didn't start bringing in sustainer kits until the absolution era. Third if you want any info on matts gear go to musewiki.com and click the gear link. 4th seeing people talk crap on YouTube is really annoying. You two are both kids in a sense. Thank you good bye. Live long muse.

  • Wow Muse in a daylight setting? Fast forward to 10 years and that would be impossible to see them in.

  • @pokabeb or maybe not? they still do plenty of outdoor gigs

  • Matt reminds of Jim Carrey in a way.

  • Matt is so hilarious!!

  • I like this Riff :D

  • Ahaha. XD Matt's face when he starts with the pointing. :')

  • ye, nice and everything, but what was funny about that riff?

  • Matt Bellamy was influenced by Tom Morello

  • Problem tom morello?

  • keep pressing 4 for the jaws theme :)

  • Matt is so wierd. I love him.

  • check out this riff im gonna make up on the spot

  • what guitar is matt using there?

  • @chibishade

    Gibson Les Paul DC Lite

  • @TheChondriac thanks, ive never seen a gibson like that before but then realised it was a doublecut version of the les paul :L thanks anyway

  • 0:30 , SUSTAINER! Thats cheating, he did not use his god powers there! LOL!

  • @guitarman0413 I think you mean Whammy.....

  • @SamAlexander14786, No, I mean sustainer... A whammy is the little metal bar at the base of your guitar that makes the sound a lower pitch is you were to push it inward. A sustainer, on the other hand, is a volume equalizer that makes the sound stay there for longer than it usually would. What he did was hit the sustainer button/switch/petal and did a hammer on pull off technique that makes the noise go back and fourth. Sorry dude, i'm not trying to be a b****, but I am right on this one. :D

  • @guitarman0413 Well considering back then he didn't have a sustainer I think you're wrong. Volume and amp dynamics can make a note sustain just as long as having artificial sustain. And whammy. Meaning Digitech Whammy. To alter pitch back and forth. Google it.

  • @SamAlexander14786, No, I mean sustainer... A whammy is the little metal bar at the base of your guitar that makes the sound a lower pitch is you were to push it inward. • @guitarman0413 You don't know what you're talking about. The other guy's right. It's a whammy --->pedal<---. Not a tremolo/whammy bar, but a whammy pedal. Hammer-on alone would not increase the pitch so much. Also, whammy bars are not only used to lower pitch. They can also increase pitch (among many other things).

  • @guitarman0413 His Les Paul obviously doesn't have a Sustainer or a whammy bar. He's hammering on each note then pitch shifting it +1 octave with the Whammy pedal, you can see this at 0:00-0:58.

Sorry dude, I'm not trying to be a b****, but you're wrong.

  • @JimboMansonMB1 he doesnt have a les paul...not to be a cunt but...thats REALLY not a les paul

  • @CantonezSpere Really? Because, not to be a cunt, but...it's definitely a Les Paul. Seeing as it's a Les Paul, it says Gibson on the headstock, underndeath Gibson it says Les Paul, and it's a Les Paul DC Lite. I mean, I might be wrong, but it's definitely a Les Paul.

You YouTube kids should seriously check some facts before commenting on anything....

  • @JimboMansonMB1 Lol people on youtube have no idea what they're talking about. Shocking right? I mean wtf is a Double Cut Les Paul?!?!?!

  • @JimboMansonMB1 well thanks to referring to me as 'youtube kid' that wasnt remotely a twattish move. I didnt factor is it might be double cut, to be fair when you think of a les paul that's NOT what you think of. Its an easy mistake to make, and that was totally being a cunt. Couldnt have just pointed out the mistake? Nope, too polite. Thanks for the condescension, you bastard.

  • @CantonezSpere Your response to my comment shows me definitely that you are in fact a "youtube kid." It's beyond obvious that his guitar is a doublecut Les Paul. Your tone (no pun intended) is the only thing "remotely twattish" here, I'm just trying to educate you about guitars.

Seriously though, like I said, check your facts before you get all defensive about a false comment.

  • @JimboMansonMB1 well, at a glance it could be any number of things, you're simply attempting to assert yourself as superior in knowledge of guitars, which really isn't worth it. Look at your first reply, I made a false yet completely innocuous comment (though I did swear, but who gives a fuck), and you instantly throw my words back in my face. You could have politely corrected me, but no, you were condescending, and insulting, i hope never to talk to you again on youtube or in real life.

  • @CantonezSpere I don't have to assert my superior knowledge of guitars, that became obvious a long time ago. What shows me that you definitely are just another "YouTube kid" is that you've turned our objective, while perhaps a tad heated, discussion of Matt's guitars into a personal attack on me, which you continue to do despite my simply correcting your ghastly mistake concerning Matt's gear.

  • @CantonezSpere There is only one retort that should of been used here.... U MAD BRO

    Because clearly you are.

  • @CantonezSpere That is indeed a Les Paul Double Cut. Or it could even be a LP DC lite. I can remember either way at the time but yeah it is a Les Paul. And he still has a few LP's even now.

  • Sounds like Hendrix

  • Comment removed

  • Dom's shades. Fuck yea.

  • best muse song by far!!!! killer riff and a massive piss take solo, its got everything! Matt best guitarist ever!

  • lol a five year old can whistle this watta noob

  • HAHAHAHAHAHAAAAA! WTF? He is awesome!

  • press 1 for penguin action!

  • wonderfully weird

  • How the hell is Matt doing that from 0:31 onwards?

  • @Simstar911 That's a Whammy pedal.

  • @Simstar911 He's using a pitch shifter/whammy pedal and using hammer-ons :) hes not the best guitarist in the world he likes to show off a lot :)

  • @ilovefudge1992 this was 11 years ago

  • @KAmaKAsa1

it makes no difference he still has the same tactic

  • @Simstar911 Obviously not a guitarist haha ;) like the other people said. Whammy pedal. Changes the pitch of the note played pre-set amounts. Very good fun. Like in the solo in 'Killing in the name'

  • turd of misery

  • oh man, they havent played this riff for ages, which is a shame (my fave riff by them)

  • 0:33

Epic muse poster material right there.

  • how the fuck ?

  • 0:06 he looks like a penguin! hahahaaa

  • i cant believe that this guy is more famous than joe bonamassa

  • Sounds kind of like a Living Colour song...

  • they played that just before sunburn

  • 0:29 What ever happened to this Matthew Bellamy?

  • Pre-Sunburn riff

  • his guitar's a SG !

  • @TheSubmachines looks more like a Gibson double cutaway... with tape.

  • @JacobCain86 I can't remember where I learnt that but I'm almost sure that' the guitar's an an SG with ... sctoch ?

  • @TheSubmachines The Gibson Les Paul Slimline Double Cutaway was Bellamy's main guitar for the most of the touring in 2000, until he rammed it into a Marshall 4x12 at the Dublin Olympia. The object taped below the bridge is said by Bellamy to be "a piece of bass fretboard".

  • @JacobCain86 Wow ... Incredible ... You're very strong ... ... !!

  • @TheSubmachines YAH!!! Victory!!!

  • @JacobCain86 ;p

  • @JacobCain86 You gave me an idea !! If I could add an A-string from a bass on an ordinary guitar, I could play Citizen Erased and save my E-string tuned !! Some day I'll try ... thx !

  • @TheSubmachines i dont even get a thumb or anything?

  • genius

  • Wait whats so funny about this?

    Awesome riff though

  • He is the only person in the world i have seen with a nose like Dietmar Hamann

  • the first 3 seconds matt and chris are almost like mirror images. haha

  • Check out this riff. Yo, man.

  • lOl

  • definitly inspired by ratm

  • sounds like RATM

  • @stevus111 I agree. Except rage are insanely harder and more bad ass

  • @stevus111 yea it sounds, matt is big fan of ratm :P

  • This is the ultimate riff.

  • Insane.

  • fury

  • Why isn't this a song? WHY

  • that's a good riff, but I can see no funny at all...

  • muse sure loves RATM!

  • @j03B0y9 Yup. And RATM loves Muse. There's a reason why Muse is performing with them at LA Rising.

  • That's a bit RATM-ish don't you think...

  • @mrmusica duh :P RATM is one of their greatest inspirations... muse loves RATM :)

  • "How the F," you ask? The answer is really quite simple: MATT BELLAMY

  • how the F?

  • Keep pressing 6

  • 0:30 sounds like a donkey being violently bummed LOLLLL

  • this was a live intro to sunburn

  • check this guy out if you need a guitarist.... /user/TheFruscianteman

  • out of all the chord his favorite is all open strings no matter what key, that is awesome!!!!

  • so random

  • It's ridiculous how much this turns me on

  • Comment removed

  • wow, how much they've changed is amazing

  • haha Matt looks like a chicken at 0:15 ;D

  • Hahaha 0:33 yeah Matt, wax that ass

  • His hand gestures were beast hes like looking off and playing guitar EPIC ness

  • Is this Rage against the machine?

  • @kornino

are you not good in your head? In big letters the title says MUSE.

  • @Donja1231 I meant... is this a song by rage against the machine played by Muse? It sounds like RATM.

  • @kornino

owww, I'm sorry. I didn't understand. I don't listen to RATM, you know.

  • @Donja1231 Don't worry ;-)

  • No need for sweep picking when you've got style.

  • wtf is wrong with those people..................they should be jumping with joy to witness something so golden! x

  • he's absolutly crazy. love it.

  • sick riff!

  • the people he pointed to were all women the day after that concert they all found out they were pregnant.

  • @ThePotNoodleNinja I wouldn't mind being one of those women. ;D

  • I will point and bit m lip and my guitar shall change pitch, as if BY MAGIC

  • BOSS ps5 super shifter? xD

  • He's like "hey i've got this tune stuck in my head. Time to get it out."

  • woo! back when glasto really was just thrown together XD

  • He says:

    "Check out this riff."

    He thinks:

"Check out what I'm about to make up on the spot."

  • @Mudstep5956 its not on the spot, its on muse wiki, as the pre sunburn riff, they did it alot

  • @Mudstep5956 Actually, he's played several variations on this riff before. The part at around :30 is what he made up on the spot.

    And it's fucking beautiful.

  • @Mudstep5956 lol he didnt make it up its an intro to sunburn they used to use :D

  • @Mudstep5956 It wasn't made up on the spot, Chris and Dom came in on 1.

  • @Mudstep5956 Except the bass knows it already without Matt playing it...

  • @Mudstep5956 he couldn't have made it up on the spot. well he could but him chris and dom would all have to be telepathic... :)

  • @HELLJUMP3R7 chris and dom would all have to be telepathic...err hello? This is MUSE we're talking about :P

  • @Mudstep5956 Except the bass player played it with him... either the bassist can read his mind or it was rehearsed.

  • @Mudstep5956 Isn't it a Rage riff...

  • ROFLMFAO

  • Now that was just damn funny.

  • BEAST!! >:D

  • SIlly Matt xD

  • It sounds like Rage Against The Machine.

  • song?

  • @yoshiskato it's not a song, wish it was though, just type in "pre sunburn riff muse" for other vids :D

  • ha, 0:30 - 0:40, awesome!

  • amazing video!!!......please see my cover of sing for absolution....i'll be so thankful...

    regards

  • 0:35 Matthew's pimp hand

  • Sex in a riff.

  • Dom. looks. sexy.

  • @SheryP96 Quit being redundant. All you had to say was just "Dom" or "sexy." Having both in the same sentence is just repeating yourself. :P

  • @I0ttie What the fuck?

  • @SheryP96 Haha. nothin'. :P

  • @I0ttie lool okie xD

  • Love his little dance :') <3

  • This riff is so fucking sick, not so much funny in my opinion. Definitely Tom Morello influence. So badass sounding. Although, I was always much more of an audioslave fan than RATM

  • @wattdog16 I read on Wikipedia that a huge influence of him was Tom Morello

  • the way he plays that riff is so funny ! all of those movements:) he is the greatest guitar player in the world

  • Rage Ag
