Actually it looked like at the last second you were trying to keep it legal by getting your knees down first, but his back hit first. If your knees had hit the mat before he slammed down it's not supposed to be an illegal move, However, it's still the refs call and depending on how high the other kid bounced might have still been called illegal. Looks like you were out wrestling him anyway and didn't really need to get that extreem, but wrestling is not for the weak.
How is this illegal? if you look at this in slow-mo @ 0.36, his right knee is touching the mat simulatnously as he takes dow his opponent. I thought in scholastic wrestling rules, you can slam your opponrnts as long as one knee is on the mat...
Wow..you slammed him to hard...in wrestling....that sounds like saying you ran to fast in football...wth its a slam..its suppose to hurt, if you submit a guy...your hurting him..if your cranking on his neck..its going to hurt. Your trying to win not play ass grab all day

people should stop promoting this violent sports. all because of this shit i fractured the cartilage of my ribs. its been 1 year and still hurts. now am crippled forever damn it
ok "jarniej" well it was illegal in folkstyle but in freestyle it isnt... the reason it because you have to have one KNEE down before you slam someone like that in folkstyle....
the move wasnt illigal just if a kid does somthing that hurts the other kid and that kid cant even finish the match cause he is hurt he wins on a DQ. if the kid hurt him self and couldnt go on then they other kid would win
@jarniej Anytime the opponents hips go higher than yours, you are responsible for his safety back to the mat. It was obvious that the takedown could have been made without the extra exertion (the opponent was darn near 4 or 5 ft off the ground). I don't blame the guy doing the slamming though. I that situation, giveing the extra popping of the hips, it is hard to tell that this sort of thing will happen.
@jarniej you have to control the drop, the object isnt to kill your opponent, just use the advantage of having him in the air in order to obtain a favorable position. i was slammed my junior year and it put me out for that tournament and the next one. I ended up goin against the guy in our finals and i beat him all to none.
@jarniej it because he did not go to his knees he kinda jumped with it is what they would say he the guy lifting has to keep contact with the mat the whole time
thts legal he met him at the mat as took him down if he would of bellyed out then he wouldnt of broke his ribs in my opinion its totally legal i have done slams like tht (but no btoken bones) and i won the mAtch and i got a video of his coach laughing
first of all, no no no, when in doubt LET GO OF THE HEAD, if he let go he could of bellyed out resulting in him not breaking a ribs, but he put him down a little hard.
i agree that it is the responsibility of the wrestler to bring the opponent down safely, however in this case the opponent did not do what he needed to do in order to protect himself, he did not turn towards his belly like all wrestlers are taught on the first day of practice. If the wrestler maintained control on the downward part of the move he would have had the pin easy!
A slam is lifting and returning an opponent to the mat with unnecessary force. The knees have nothing to do with it nor does the fact that he didn't leave his feet. This is a slam because of how hard he was brought back to the mat. This is from the NFHS rulebook which is for all states. There is nothing close about the call but I do not beleive it was intentional so the I don't beleive that the DQ was warrented. Should have been illegal slam, one point, start recovery time.
you are correct on the definition, but then the question of unnecessary force comes in. Thats the problem, its refs descretion. What we as refs are taught to do is determine whether or not the wrestler had control of his opponent. Normally if a wrestler leaves his feet, like in this instance. Its a slam. And no the knees have nothing to do with it, but they are a good indicator that there was control. In the end it comes down refs discretion.
With all slams unnecessary force is the determining factor and like linebacker said that is refs discretion. Like he said a guy leaving his feet is a good indicator. When I see a guy lifted basically over his head I know he has control of the guy now he better have control of him back down. To me this is a very easy call in this instance.
The exact definition in the NFHS rule book is "lifting and returning an opponent to the mat with unnecessary force." Now even though it doesn't say responsible for him coming back down safely. It does say so in the NFHS wrestling case book in the examples of a slam as well as well as associations around the country agree on that principle of if a wrestler lifts his opponent off his feet that he is responsible for his opponents safe return to the mat. I can quote the case book if needed.
I agree with usmc on this one. Wrestling is a dangerous sport; however, when lifting an opponent completely off the mat it is your responsibility to return the opponent safely to the mat. Rules or not what do you think is morally correct?
supposedly the rule on this situation is that the knees must hit before the opponents body. and in this situation it was pretty close, but his knees just barely didnt, and put all their weight on his ribs.
actually its pretty standard they DQ for a slam like that. but only since the kid was hurt so bad. i've seen this a couple times. if he really is hurt, or just wants to puss out, the ref will give a DQ.
what a girl. that happened to me, exact move and everything and i cracked a rib.. thing is i had two other matches and this one to finish and i wrestled them(winning two), broken ribs and all.
kron32, it was illegal because you brought him down with unnecessary force. The slam rule simply states "When a wrestler lifts another off the mat, it is the lifting wrestler's responsibility to ensure the other's safe return to the mat.". It says nothing about lifting him too high. Perhaps you misunderstood the ref.

Nice move. It seems the guy you slammed lifted his feet up, and part of his body was still under you. What weight class by the way?
I did 189s and I know that if that happend to me it would probably mean a lot worst then broken ribs at that weight.
Nice job. No coach would ever hate you for killing a guy in your match.

kron32, it was illegal because you brought him down with unnecessary force. The slam rule simply states "When a wrestler lifts another off the mat, it is the lifting wrestler's responsibility to ensure the other's safe return to the mat.". It says nothing about lifting him too high. Perhaps you misunderstood the ref.

National Federation of High School wrestling rule book
Rule 7 Section 1 Art 1. A slam is lifting and returning an opponent to the mat with unnecessary force.
There is not such thing as a legal slam. By rule a slam is illegal.
