everyone who says solich couldnt recruit please go look at the classes that he recruited and look at how many are in the nfl. I am sorry he was a good coach but they axed him before he could change the offense
Sun, I understand where you are coming from, the problem was that the Omaha pipeline dried up, and Nebraska didn't have anywhere to turn to for RBs..It wasn't like they were going to go to Texas, or Florida to get backs..The problem with Nebraska is that when the walkon program was strongest, guys would choose to walk on at NU instead of playing at a midmajor..Now, you can get exposure and recognition at Boise State, or Utah..Therefore, the depth Nebraska had isn't there anymore..
Solich wasn't the problem..He's proven that he's a damn good coach from what he's done at Ohio..He's won something at Ohio University, that's a legit coach..The problem was that eventually, the Nebraska Option with the I Back became stoppable(See 02 Rose Bowl), and Nebraska never adapted, and then hired Callahan, who was totally incompetent..Should have stuck with Solich, and modernized the offense some more..
Well you are part right, but Solich was still the problem. The caliber of player wasn't Tommie Frazier,Lawrence Phillips or Ahman Green back there running the option anymore. And, the Nebraska offense over-compensated for this by over-using the QB in the option with Jammal Lord and Eric Crouch. They lacked complimenting players at RB that were as dangerous with the football as they were.
@Canedude08 I totally agree....looking in from the outside I can clearly see this perspective.......I am a former player and you would not believe the stuff that he was doing......one must also consider that his first 4-5 years at head coach were all with Osborne's recruiting classes.......what was the record of Frank's 5 recruiting classes? Frank went 7-7 with the first entire team recruited by him as head coach.
What's depressing is they gave it to Solich automatically he wasn't a good recruiter and who knows he he may have had the booze/bar issues in NE and just never got caught. Not factual at all just wondering
No he isn't and no he doesn't. I used to think that once too though...then you find things out after he leaves and loses influence. And I'm not talking about the girl drink drunk episode either.
