You look as me about 35 years ago,the difference is that you have an open future,it·s all in your hands (literally). Some commentaries you had received are out of place and time.Excuse my english,I·m from Buenos Aires.Thanks.
What runs do you use to make yourself sound effortlessly like Tatum? Are most of your runs based on chromatic scales? The only Tatum runs that I know are the pentatonic runs I learned from Fats.
Sorry for not posting. I'm working pretty hard at the moment, and am struggling to find the time to get video-ing! Will try soon.
Im so un-technical in my knowledge, so I find it hard to explain the runs - my approach was to listen over and over again to art, whilst I was at a piano, and simply break it down note by note, to see what worked - often the result was different to his, but sounded close enough at speed. sorry can't be of more help than that, but good luck! thanks for encouragement!
Excellent!!!playing. And you look great doing it!!! It "enhances" the meaning of that beautiful song. It's the look of being focused on the music. Thx for posting!
You learnt to play by ear? - very impressive. I've no idea how people do that. Django is one of my favorite Peterson numbers - any chance you could post this some time!? Thanks.
You play this piece exquisitely and sensitively. Thank you for sharing it. I love the original and so obviously have high standards for its re-playing but you have easily met them in this performance.
You people are FREAKS, seriously! I can see how someone would over-critizes the guy for making funny faces that give the impression of being stuck-up (no offense), but he's good to say the least.
PS Who the hell comments their resume\autobiography? If anyone cared, they would look at your profile.
Oh dear - people seem to be getting the wrong end of the stick - I don't really focus on how I look when I play, more on how it sounds. So aside from the painful mistakes I make, I'd encourage listeners to take it as a light-hearted attempt at recreating something that a jazz great once played.
Also sorry about the autobiography thing, but I thought it was better to give this video some sort of explanatoin/description rather than leaving it blank. It's not meant to piss you off!
Straaange, how different personal impressions can be. I should be an "expert" for "juvenile facial expressions", being a university professor, who deals with "young geniuses" of Oli's age on a daily basis. His smile impresses me as a "modest" one, as if he wanted to say: " Don't take this too seriously, since I myself don't." Bravo! Oli

You haven't posted in months? I want to see some more videos of you.

You are gifted not only by your talent but also by your parents providing such nice equipment and probably also giving the right directions...
When I first saw this I thought it was played to leisurely and too fast, then I listened again without viewing and think the same...
But nevertheless great playing and I look forward to see/hear more of you.

I think you play fine and y r very skilled
And a mistake once in a while : that 's youtube
not an examen at the conservatorium.
Yopu just do what you want and those who don't like
go away.
Simple !
I use it to stock my pieces and after a year I have 3 fans.

You exagerate with rubato and I don't like when you finish the phrases, it seems like you don't have any musical preocupation in those moments.

the way you look sometimes just destroys the meaning of that beautyful song..love ballad.

nice, but you look very arrogant sometimes. well..but you have a reason to be conceited like that. was nice to listen to you.

You must learn by ear. Is that true?
CBasie2856 5 years ago
yes I learnt it by ear, which is lucky because I'm a bad sightreader!

You have an exceptional ear though. Very well trained.
