  • Lots of movement.....not much music....there are many, many bass solos better than this one....peace out

  • what show is this from?

  • he makes it look so fucking easy

  • There are times where I think, "it'd be fun to learn bass!" Then I watch this video and realize there's no point. I'll never be that god. Or do I mean good? No, I mean God.

  • I'm a guitar player but I sometimes play Bass and my problem is that my hands are not that big! so I think it helps to have bigger hands on the bass :) to hit all those notes! I swear I have to move my hands about quicker than needed :)

  • Guess What?

I quit. I'm never going to touch a bass guitar in my life again

  • Suggestion video: "Gene simmons Bass solo" ????? Youtube are you kidding?

  • is that bass made of carbon?!?!

  • @vlado0oo0o graphite if i recall

  • John Entwistle was the only bass player who while was playing had the face of who thought what he had to eat at dinner.

  • I'm sorry you bought into a popularity contest when it comes to bass playing. For me, seeing Victor Wooten live multiple times, meeting him, shaking his hand, after an incredible performance has benefited more on the bass then this schmuck ever would. I take something away from him when he performs. Go do some blow put on new strings and flap madly at the bass and you can be like john

  • Don't force your opinion on others, we are here to listen to the most innovative rock bassist ever. Also, slap bass and all the other styles would never work with the who

  • the ox rocks!!!!!!!!!

  • See, a real bass player doesn't need to put make up on his face, spit blood and breathe fire. Instead he will play you a kick ass solo ... 'cos he can

  • FM may have been gay but he's a bloody good singer, not many other dead good singers I could think of at the time to be in the Band.

I thought Charlie Mingus played guitar or did he play both.

  • @JonMelleney

Charles MIngus was the leading upright bass player as the electric bass of the 50's became the norm. He was phenomenal and terribly underappreciated because people like you guys buy into the popularity takeover of your generation. ITS OK to accept the fact that he wasn't the best and move on.

  • Everyone knows that African Americans are the best at rhythm, i.e. bass and drums

Victor Wooten is the true centerpiece of any bass players catalouge

I guess when you are terrible at bass, i.e. entwhistle fans you would actually think he's good

  • @kenich420 name one thing wrong with john's bass playing. there isnt anything to name, okay he doesnt slap but lets face it, slap bass wouldnt work in the who. his playing is flawless imo

  • @8down10

Anyone can flap brand new strings on a custom built bass, doing a bunch of inconsistent pull-offs with a few slides to a open low-e. His technique is what it is, but a true soloist will incorporate pull-offs and hammer-ons, chordal structure, string spacing grooves, as well as, your basic syncopated rhythms divisible by each owns individuality.

I take offense to him being over exaggerated as the GREATEST. He was not the greatest and thats not opinion, THATS A FACT!

  • @kenich420 let me guess. you like cliff burton dont you?

  • @8down10

I think he fit his role in a heavy-metal band perfectly, he was a spirited and technical musician. Personally, i stopped listening to metal when I was 15, so does cliff burton have an effect on my playing, no. He was what he needed to be at that time of expanding musical interests. I can understand where john entwistle might be appreciated because of the repatition of the who's music. Don't sound like republicans when it comes to music because that's what you think.

  • @kenich420 Please stop strolling, if you dont like his bass playing then why the fuck are you watching it, id love to see anyone be as inovative as john, hes not my favorite bass player but without him, you wouldnt even haave bass today, look at what he did in the 60's. he did what people are just statrting to do now, alomst 50 years later

  • @MoPower2112

Bass Innovators Jaco Pastorious and Stanley Clarke did more in just the 70's then Entwistle will ever be known for.

  • @kenich420 of course, i love both of those guys, but when it comes to the true nature of the art form, you have to look past favorites and look at what talent these guys are giving out, and how much theyve helped shape the art form, and John "the ox"

has, if your to blind to see it thats your loss, but stop forcing your opinons on others, now plz leave

  • Probably the best Bass Guitarist in the World.

Unless of Course you can think of anyone else , the only possible ones we came up with were :-

    Mark King from Level 42

    Paul McCartney ( Doubtful )

    and then we got stuck

At least he's up their in the massive rock band in the sky with Moon , Hendrix and Freddy M ... what a band

  • @JonMelleney Anthony Jackson :)

  • @JonMelleney

Victor Wooten, Jaco Pastorious, Stanley Clarke, Charles Mingus, Les Claypool just to name a few

  • @JonMelleney Freddy Mercury was a queer he was never an inspiration and he will never be an inspiration

  • This is the man that inspired me to learn Bass Guitar. Amazing.

  • the chuck norris of bass

  • I'm playing bass for over 20 years, but this is so amazing... I tried to copy it but I broke my fingers... ;-) John Entwistle was the best bass player of all times!

  • @MyEndymion nonsense

  • Personally, I prefer the backing bass track from "The Real Me". However, pretty much every time Entwistle picked up the bass, it was magic.

  • @GoodLookingWisGuy yeah lol, the worst bass line that i know that john played was probably pinball wizard, and even thats head and shoulders above most other bass lines

  • @8down10 I guess you only listen to the who if that's what you think

  • Drogira se Chicha 100%

  • someone knows the name of this song?

  • @bajistamexica 5:15 from live at the Royal Albert Hall

  • Comment removed

  • corny

  • Comment removed

  • Got to give props to another comment from another video but I can't resist... John Entwistle once fingered a girl and she died.

  • God invented the Bass, but John Entwistle taught him how to play it.

  • the bass guitar hasnt evan been out for a millennium, so how can he be the best?

  • The 18 idiot people who clicked dislike this video must be deaf or tone deaf with no soul and spirit. The tragedy of what sniffing too much vehicle tailpipe carbon monoxide fumes do to human brain damage

  • John Entwistle = The Best

    The Ox!

  • Did I hear a pinch harmonic at 2:14?

  • half of this for me is Zak's groove too, that steadyness is brilliant

  • Something on F.......

  • 240p WE MEET AGAIN!!!!!

  • @alexandertarangerkin Stop complaining u can see it well and its really about the sound.

  • Suggestion video:" Gene simmons Bass solo"

    Youtube are you kidding?

  • Comment removed

  • If this doesn't light your spirit,YOU ARE DEAD!! Call 9-1-1 Emergency

  • Knew he was good.....didnt think he was that good!! RIP

  • Man...All that cocaine made the man speed, speed, speed

  • so my fav bass player

  • speechless.

  • well, I guess all that "who's no. 1" shit is finally settled...

  • JOHN ENTWISTLE IS THE GOD OF BASS AND ALL OTHER THINGS THAT ARE GOOD. WHEN GOD IS IN HEAVEN HE CONSULTS JOHN ENTWISTLE FOR ADVICE

  • Best bass player who ever lived!

  • ok I'm not a man but I'm pretty sure that I just had an erection

  • GOD IS PLAYING BASS

  • @TrombonersEverywhere you are soooo behind on the times, obviously you do what others think because everyone knows the "ox" is a bad bass player

  • @TrombonersEverywhere no even god cant play this good

  • I have the same expression on my face when I watch my taxes get done.

  • and they say old people are slow

  • People who come after the original are copycats and imitators. It is impossible to be another Bo Diddley,Chuck Berry,Bill Haley,Muddy Waters,Howlin Wolf, Elvis Presley, or John Entwistle when you impersonate the originals. That is why there will never be another Beatles, the Who,Etc.... You all should get what I'm sayin'

  • I been asking myself...did Cliff Burton get bass lessons from John Entwistle?

  • Will forever last in my memory as the best bassist I have ever seen!

  • the last minuete i was deciding wat to say bc i am so amazed STILL... So i said this

  • In my opinion. Top 5 bassists 5. John Paul Jones, 4.Geddy Lee, 3.Les Claypool, 2.John Entwistle & 1. Cliff Burton

  • @jeremylovesmusic1 What About Paul MCcartney?

  • @armstrongbrosband

No I didn't forget about Paul McCartney, but he is still in my top 10.

  • @armstrongbrosband paul mccartney is incredible as a composer (of songs and basslines) but as an instrumentalist he's pretty average at guitar and bass (which are remarkably similar). I don't know how good of a drummer he is though since I don't play drums

  • @popomczowzow I play guitar, bass and drums. I'm very impressed with McCartney's skill in all three. If you want a good example of his guitar playing, check out the solo on "Tax Man". For bass, I think the best example is on "Rain". And for drums go look up "Kreen Akore".

Paul also plays a lot of other instraments, such as piano, organ, mellotron, keyboards, ukulele, mandolin and recorder. ;)

  • @armstrongbrosband yeah man I was in a really bad mood last night, I was saying all kinds of stupid shit. technical ability is virtually meaningless as long as it doesn't restrain you. Paul Mccartney is an incredible fucking musician

  • @jeremylovesmusic1 Cliff Burton was schooled by John Entwistle.

  • He's is using 24 Carat Gold strings, now that's fucking awesome.

  • RIP Entwistle The Ox! Coolest Cat ever on the Planet Earth Neighborhood Block!

  • I'm Black & God this man is the greatest bass player that ever lived on Planet Earth!

  • HE WAS SO FUCKING COOL, THATS PURE COOLNESS

  • God I miss this Man!!!!!!!!

  • Absolute Eargasm Ecstacy in a Bass Solo. Elvis should have signed him to his TCB Tour Band when he wasn't touring with the Who.

Now this is the way a Bass Player should play!!!! Tell the Kids Groups today!!!!!!!

  • He makes it look so freakin' easy!!!

  • 2:47 ..............i think my brain just came

  • Intense! This music has it all: great groove, excellent sound, and lots of attitude. Respect to John Entwistle!

  • its because of him that im making $500 a week performing... RIP Thunder Fingers!!! john entwistle

  • Woah!!! I didn't know God played the bass?

  • Jesus H Christ.

I must have watched this hundreds of times already.

  • Wow! How did he get that sound?

  • They put a camera on Entwistle's bass: I wonder if they tried to do the same for Townshend's guitar...

And if yes, how long did the device hold...;)

  • he is the reason i play the bass

  • I love how he still has the, "Oh, yeah, I'm just playing bass. What of it?"

  • My man had MAD SKILLZ!!

  • What a fuckin legend!!! :D RIP John Entwistle

  • if you think les claypool cant play this, i laugh at you.

  • @barryjust1 He can. So what?

Anyone in their right mind would appreciate Claypool as one of the greatest bassists ever, and of course he can play this, that man can play anything!

But what does that prove? Are you just here to piss off Entwistle fans?

  • MUFF!!

  • All I say is holy fuck!

  • Nobody can beat John Entwistle at the Bass x3

  • I'm a loser!

  • 16 people think, that they can play better.

  • @KujaDiartua When clearly, they can't :)

  • @KujaDiartua Please don't start that.

  • @KujaDiartua They will all fail.

  • Do you think that John Bonham, John Entwistle, Jimi Hendrix, Freddie Mercury, and Stevie Ray Vaughan are playing in a band in Heaven? I like to think so...

  • @zoso4906 amen to that!

  • Fuckin' THUNDERFINGERS!!! \m/

    LONG LIVE ROCK!!!

  • that's an amazing solo.

  • the first minute is unremarkable, it gets remarkable when he starts on the typewriter technique. Then he goes straight into a sort of scale with triplets but not all triplets. It is irregular and effective. After that he starts on the electric trickery with the vol controls. After that it is hard to comment, so many things happen

  • @0090andrew Unremarkable? Matey that's a darn remarkable groove happening there.

  • Hmmm....i've been playing like this for years.....it's not that hard. But he does do it very good!

  • the f*cking best solo i´ve ever seen :D

  • this is good, put technically its not a solo cuz the drummers was playing

  • John Entwhistle. Geddy Lee. John Paul Jones. Flea. The four most amazing bassists in the world.

  • @jerrythepotato1919 and norman watt roy.

  • @SirBanuTheFourth Norman Watt Roy..wasn't he the bassist from Ian Dury's band?

  • @overture13 yeah... probably since John died, the best bass player alive, in my opinion.

  • Hey.. You can own AN Ox's Tale now on Itunes for only 9.99!! Watch the master in action!!

  • lol - somw of these internet experts are funnt on here. The man you are watching in this video is the besat to ever walk this planet

  • The MAN at his greatest: CREATING THUNDER!!!

  • I don't think that bass is right for the style but wat he did with roman numbering the frets was genius and gives the bass a super awesome look

  • any bassists out there please tell me how he might achieve that sound!

  • @ultramagnus58

I'm not a bassist but he achieves it with a lot of treble

  • @atgskater14 thanks

  • @ultramagnus58 distortion, and bi-amping. bi-amping is the process of sending high frequencies and low freguencies into seperate amps. entwistle is well known for his bi-amping

  • @joerobot32 thanks!

  • @ultramagnus58 lol he taps all 4 strings with all 4 of his fingers...its called the typewetriter, and let me to you its very fun and hard to play...and he is one bad ass bassist

  • I won't go as far as to say he's the greatest, but damn, he's awesome. I love his dead-pan face while he's ripping one hell of a cool bass solo...

  • John Entwistle is officially the man, Period!

  • I want that bass and i want that skill :p

  • Great player & a real cool dude as well!

  • great rocker;great bassist

  • Can anyone tell me the name of the bass he's using, or the effects?

  • @duffmasterofpuppets Status Graphite Buzzard 1 into a pile of processors.

  • Nice solo even though i'm not a big fan of distortion effect on bass

  • How ignorant of me.Played bass for years, listened to rock/metal/punk but never knew how good John was....amazing.Nearly as good as Lemmy!!!!!!!

  • @steveclem LOL. You must be kidding. Lemmy is nothing compared to The Ox

  • john could have brought off a crack whore with those fingers

  • Even the singer had an eargasm in the beginning

  • what a load of old wank

  • grand pa..!! very good..!!

  • flea is better

  • @bassistchrisist Flea sucks.

  • @TheExiledTexan flea is a very sympatique man o_O i don't know how a human talk so bad about a great man :(

  • @TheExiledTexan Flea rocks.

  • @bassistchrisist

WTF what flea i know he is great but maaaan no comparison betweeen John and him that was whole new thing what john did

  • @bassistchrisist Flea is Ok, but just like Les Claypool, they play a funky, frenetic, eclectic, slap-bass style that is good but not really that difficult to do if you play bass. The Primus and RHCP fans think they are the respective best bass players and there is no trying to convince them otherwise. But, John Enwistle is THE bass God. Period.

  • @BILLBKLYN John Entwistle was voted, "bass player of the millenium" by other professional bass players in 2000. The only bass player to hold this honor. Enough said.

  • @BILLBKLYN Funny thing is, Flea and Claypool would be the first to agree with you.

  • isnt that Jigsaw? o_ô"?

  • This should be illegal haha.. I'm an aspiring bass player and I try to compare myself to that.. It's not even fair.. John was just amazing.. I HIGHLY doubt there will ever be anyone even remotely close to his playing abilities. There were great bassist: Bill Wyman, Paul McCartney, John Paul Jones, John McVie. But they're, and I don't want this to sound condescending, just bass lines. John was something much more

  • he is the only one who deserves golden snares

  • That's Brutal

  • That guy is pretty badass!

  • it whould be cool to get all the fucking rippen bass players in one place and make them battle!!!!

  • how the hell do all these MC electronics sound so similar no matter what wwick they'r e on?

  • the world needs him... why did he leave us here???

  • @lvcyberpimpin yup, coming right out of you.

  • @cityofwalls Nobody has even missed him since he's been pushin' daisies. Hell, half the world doesn't even know hes dead. A dealer in Vegas tried to sell me one of his basses for 26,000.00 a few years ago. Last i seen the price on that bass dropped to 2,200.00 and its collecting dust. He is way, way over rated.

  • @lvcyberpimpin nobody´s ever gonna miss you if you keep talkin

  • @lvcyberpimpin

talent is not over rated dumb ass and john entwistle HAS TALENT

  • @lvcyberpimpin

Isn't that what music is dipshit?

  • lol after all these years he has the same hairdo and beard

    cool solo too
