I think he was in a bad mood here because the life on tour was getting on his nerves. He couldn't sleep, listen to music, or be with his wife and kids while on tour.
I've seen various inteviews with Frank, and in most of them, he is a really funny, rational and intelligent guy who respects the interviewer even though he/she might be an idiot.
He probably comes off arrogant having to survive in the music world of the 70s-80s. I often wonder how Zappa would function from the 90s now seeing how making quality music of any sort will have you banished to obscurity forever and blackballed from mainstream media. The average music consumer today would in my opinion make a fine food or fuel (burning) source. I agree with everything he says, especially his world view, and I like his music, so therefore I like Zappa! Good post!
every single interview i've seen of frank has made me laugh out loud...he does seem kinda arrogant in a lot of footage from the late 70's, his stage presence was also pretty different in baby snakes, i think the fame slightly got to his head at that point. still the same genius he was his whole life though.

Zoot Allures is one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard in my life. Amazing chords/keys used in that song.

he's like a modern Buddha at 3:40. Not stamping out desire all together, but sure " desire, just know that it will never come true. "
Sounds like some very practical and effective advice.
