I completely agree, I can't believe how we can eat something so violently slaughtered. The way they treat animals in those factories is like concentration camps in the Hollocost. It's sick.
Even if you got half of the population on Earth to go through with this plan, there wouldn't be a change. There's no going back from here. We are all truly screwed.
Why does everyone overlook the real issue? Human Overpopulation...7 billion methane producing (by the way nothing is more natural), resource exhausting, habitat destroying naked apes around the world. Fewer people would consume less of, well...everything. People would again have enough space to raise their own vegetable and meat animals in a humane and sustainable way. If you really want to help the earth...wear a condom when you fuck.
I think a lot of people overlook human overpopulation because there are still so many religious & cultural taboos around using birth control. Even so, I hope that at some pt. tax incentives will be given to people who chose not to have children or who chose to have smaller families (I don't think punishing bigger families is a good idea). Of course, it's also about HOW we consume. Americans make up 5% of the world pop. but use 25% of the resources. That approach needs to change no matter what.
I store my grain in the air conditioner and that, like, costs more than 10 fridges. Aside from that, thank you for the continued realistic viewpoints.
You are one of the most beautiful women i have ever seen. This is more than simply good looks. Opinionated, smart, taking initiative....I think im in love
This is all because of the capitalistic system. We must let our production and economy suffer so that every animal at least can die after a happy life.
Are we finally ready to take our responsibility? If we call ourselves "civilised " and "intelligent", I think we are.
I mean we should be able to eat meat and stuff if we want to, but at least make sure to know that you get your meat from a farm that takes much responsiblity.
Yes I totally 100% agree. The public should be more aware of these facts. This year I am starting my own vegetable garden to eat health and be green. Keep up the great videos.
solution? i understand your approach on educating people on this topic. you've seemed to address it accordingly. though i wonder, have you no compassion? no true education? the simple fact that you as well as millions of others choose to condone in the slaughter of innocent animals, for the simple pleasure of taste and fashion, is well, very disturbing. how about becoming vegan for the sake of saving lives? i feel the gravity of that statement completely over shadows everything you've just said.
My intent is 2 welcome people into a holistic lifestyle that lasts the rest of their lives. Most people do better w/ transitions & tend 2 rebel from drastic changes. They want to B encouraged 4 the positive steps & not feel judged 4 things they haven't done yet (clients tell me all the time). Justified or not, people eat/wear animals 4 reasons beyond taste & fashion alone. Still, the more animals we can save the better (1 reason I haven't eaten cows or pigs in 16yrs). Progress not perfection.
Is this a joke? What's with the assumptions made on this pg lately? 99% of the time my schedule doesn't allow me to shoot in the morning. I've got a green/holistic lifestyle (reducing, reusing, recycling, composting, buying organic, supporting non profits, teaching others to do the same, etc) and I'm going to let myself turn some lights on. Hopefully someday soon though, they'll all be solar and wind powered and these kinds of conversations won't be needed.
Both are imperfect in many ways, but still do important work. They continue to bring topics to our attention that otherwise would be ignored or swept under the carpet.
I stated my opinion, you can keep yours. Nothing about what your doing is different from what your doing it against. You both have your set dogmas and your following the play book step by step.
People like Ms. Avalon can't talk about farms because my guess is she has never been to one. It is easy to post on Youtube and pretend like you have opinion and you know whats going on. What most people dont know that farmers are stewards of the land and we make our money to feed our families. We make money by producing healthy and wholesome products so we can feed people like Ms. Avalon. I guess instead of blaming farming for the worlds problem maybe you should thank us for feeding the world
Actually, I grew up in a farming community. We played in & around the fields and had fresh milk delivered. Also, my dad's best friend had a piece of land, so I learned how to milk cows & goats & collect fresh eggs from hens. Most farms are run by huge businesses @ this pt that dump toxins into the soil creating health hazards for generations. The people I'd really like to thank for healthy & wholesome food are organic farmers.
That's more of an issue having to do with individual consumers. Businesses are a reflection of our individual behavior, because if it wasn't for us they wouldn't exist.
As responsable consermers we have to take it upon ourselves to not go for the cheap products all the time, to spend the extra 10 minutes of our day buying from a local farmer selling imperfect apples outside at 90*F for 10 cents more per pound
Most people want convenience, so we get convenience and so we pay for convenience
Imagine if those 35% grain etc. would become food for us. I mean, world hunger? No way. We can also add that to grow the poultry, we need proteins. And how do they get proteins? Beans? Soy? No, fish, most often. To make 700KG of poultry meat, you need about 7000KG fish, plus the additional grain. Isn't that a huge waste?! If people would eat less meat, then the thing called world hunger wouldn't exist in this way it does today. I find it really unfair!
If we grew animals ethically for dairy/meat, prices would skyrocket. In fact, only the wealthy would be able to afford meat. All these people who say that animals should be free-range are smoking something real good. We can't both eat meat AND do so ethically. It's simply not possible to do this for everyone without becoming morally bankrupt, and destroying our planet in the process.
Actually, meat/dairy are already expensive, but the costs aren't obvious. That's because much of it is subsidized by the govt. (us, the tax payers). 1 stat from a few yrs back said beef would cost approx $30 a lb if it weren't subsidized. We also pay for it through health & pollution problems.
People CAN eat meat & dairy in a more economic, ethical way if they eat conservative amounts.
Overall though, the planet, animals, & our bodies are healthier & happier the less meat & dairy we eat.
RachelAvalon ia right. Besides: You don't NEED meat in your diet at all! I'm a vegetarian for more than 26 years and I'm perfectly fine - physically, mentally and socially.
Well when everyone runs out of food, I guess we can thank the vegans and vegetarians because you couldnt grow your own food if your life depended on it. BTW where are you going to get the land to grow the amount of veggies you need to feed the world?
My parents & grandparents always grew fruits & veggies in their yard (which I helped with), so I learned how to grow food @ an early age. I also live in a big city where I still grow some on my property. A plant-based diet is more efficient than raising animals in every aspect. Think about how much grain goes into feeding them that could go towards feeding families. Vegetarians and vegans are doing a great service and I suggest you better educate yourself on the topic.
That's what the meat and dairy industry WANTS you to believe. The fact of the matter is that these corporations care about one thing: Figures. They just want to keep their profits up and their costs down. This is at the expense of the well being and health of the animals AND consumer involved.
(sarcasm)But hey, this is corporate America, right? What's good for the corporations is good for the consumer. (end sarcasm)
i'm reading this book, "seed to civilization", it was written in 1990 or something. in that book, it sited 80 percent of grain in america goes to livestock. i doesn't doubt it!
so if livestock are the cause of 1/5 of the emissions and thats more then all the transportation in the world combined, its safe to say that humans are responsible for maybe 2/5 of the emissions, so by your logic most of "global warming" is more natural.
world wide veganism or vegetarianism is a dream and a stupid one, just let me eat my fucking burger in peace please, i live in oregon so im forced to listen to this crap 24/7 i like meat so what
Eating a burger does not only indirectly kill one cow, or whatever. It also kills atleast one family out of starvation, indirectly.
To earn the right to eat meat, the person should be able to kill a animal, and look into it's innocent eyes. Taking a life is not a piece of cake, but most people do that, two or three times a day.
Speaking of common sense, hunting wild animals may "bypass" what I said to a certain degree, but how many people living in places like New York or LA are going to hunt for their food?
You say "the only way to help is to live within simple means", but that's exactly what promoting a plant-based diet is all about. It uses less resources. Our bodies and our planet are not meant to sustain eating burgers for breakfast lunch and dinner.
If that were absolutely true for ALL the land in the US, how is it possible that we even have organic farms?
The info in this video (as mentioned) comes from a top UN report. What I highlight is based on science and common sense. I mentioned the difference between factory farming and organic, so perhaps you need to take another look at the video.
wow!thanks Rachel!the world needs more people like you.shine on(and you really do shine).if only i could spend more time surrounded by like-minded people like you.apathy is an epidemic in our modern life of comfort.so many people just dont seem to care or perhaps be aware/conscious of the "big picture",where their food/water comes from, where their trash etc goes....sigh.anyways shine on and help make the world a better place
Your definitely right about eating organic and how it shouldn't be just for the privileged . The fact is that with the food crisis and recession happening , food staples going up the class divides are getting wider and wider. If we really want to effective the movement we have got to continue to organize from the grassroots level and at the same time challenge the status quo system that creates these man made problems for profits for the ruling class.
great information! I would elaborate with a few statistics... like for every once of grain you eat costs roughtly 1/2oz of fuel during the process to the shelves. Grain fed animals are even more costly and reaching 2/3rd to the same ration!
Great Stuff! Hope to see more on Holistic Health. Do you have Aromatherapy experience or knowledge? I'd love to hear more about your opinion on Scented Candles that are infused with Essential Oils and their benefit on holistic health
Yes, I took a course in aromatherapy and use it regularly with clients. I actually have a video on Lavender and its top 10 uses. Check it out if you haven't already and let me know what you think. :)
I don't recommend scented candles unless they use 100% essential oils (preferably with soy/veggie wax and lead free wicks).
You do realize that animals continue to shit whether or not we eat them.... Right? >>
WolfObsession12088 2 years ago
How many animals we decide to eat dictates how many are bred. The less we eat, the less are bred, and the less of an issue methane becomes.

"These fossil fuels are..."
NECESSARY to grow crops now on most cropland due to monocrop topsoil damage. The soil is dead, and we're artificially sustaining it.
You're reasoning is flawed. It only applies to industrial meat production. Hunting wild animals bypasses all of what you have said.
Vegan diet will do little to help, not to mention being impossible without artificial means. It's another scam like biofuel. It's selfish lip service.
The only way to help is to live within simple means.
