Mildly entertaining...but realistically folks....these 2 are not taking LZ further-they're feeding off the carcass.Without LZ ,this band would be making $100 a night.Cutting edge my arse!!!
@blueshaker1000 Zep did lots of the blues masters tunes. Plant always gave them credit before a live performance. My fav is Howlin Wolf's killin floor (zep-Lemon song) But i'm a white guy from Mississippi so i'm a lil prejudice ;p
0.16 - Led Zeppelin may have reworked it but When the Levee Breaks" is a blues song written and first recorded by husband and wife Kansas Joe McCoy and Memphis Minnie in 1929. This factual error detracts from all other aspects of the clip and shoud be corrected. Thou shallt not .....!
The experience up there on stage is astonishing and its effects on the players must be huge. It's closer to 230 years experience including Alison's thirty years. It certainly will affect all of them in their musical careers. For instance I detect a more 'edgy' sound to Alison's work after this (see Paper Airplane Letterman video with AKUS). The poster who says Alison is the major talent on that stage will get no argument from me on that one.
This duo does a much different, darker version of the song (which I think I prefer). You can find it on YouTube.
It's interesting that the beginning of the video credits the members of LZ (and Brian Stone) as having written the song. The song has a long history, which predates LZ by a lot of years. The earliest recording I could find on YT was credited to Memphis Minnie and Joe McCoy. Give it a listen!
I like 'em all. LZ did a fantastic version, of course, but I love this version too.
That is T. Bone Burnett on rhythm, Buddy Miller the pedal steel player on rhythm guitar, Jay Bellerose on drums, and that looks like Marc Ribot on lead. With Robert Plant that's about 100 years of experience. Imagine what Alison is learning during all this.
@dropdowndog Alison has been performing since she was 9 she was 40 this year, so she has been playing as long as any of them. No disrespect to anyone, but she is the talent on that stage. 3rd grammy winning artist ever and no. 1 for females.
So genious interpretation of this old massacre dispair hard rock song. None could leave my head for months. The mastering handle of tempo without being boring. Alison is so perfect in control and devotion.
great!

I clicked on this with much trepidation. Knowing that they were changing the arrangements and not wanting to hear a bad rendition of WTLB.
