  • I grew up listening to The Searchers and rate their version of Needles and Pins as the best. But this version is just as outstanding and gives the song a fresh sound. Good job.

  • Great video

  • Awesome

  • This one has that original eighties flavor to it, maybe if I heard this first... Still works for me :)

  • Gotta say the 60's version is way ahead of this------

  • @Roxas2D Not true, Mike Pender is still working he is 69 years old, but there were two that has passed, sadly.

Who is that beauty in the video...please !

  • Comment removed

  • Very sexy!

  • Does anyone know who the cute little blonde girl is? She's REALLY HOT!!!

  • @KaptKan1 Tina Ruland a German Actress if you put her name in youtube you probably can find some movies with her

  • @obyx132 Danke schone!

  • The hairstyles really date the video, but oh, what a honey Frank Allen was AND still is!

  • i like Charleene's version from Eurotops alot better

  • The lady in this video is so hot.

  • I prefer the 60s version, but this is awesome aswell...a bit of the 80s in the 60s...but live has to be my favourite. Saw them about 2 weeks ago live...amazing night. Of course everything was 10x louder than usual, to me...I'm 14

  • w0w .. nice tune ..

  • this version is the best not RAMONE..

  • Mike Pender's griup is far better and still going strong round the world

  • Tony coudn't stay sober sad! , Mike chose to split from the band and Spencer and Frank do very well . Very few bands stay original, some get better some not, you can choose to feel however you wish. I like the gutairs of the original pairing but I still enjoy the stage presence of the group as a band. They Rock !

  • Looked up tina Ruhland recently, she is now a mouther and stars in German soap's on tv........who knew?

  • Its okay but it hasn't got that original sound coz its not sung buy the original guys!! you need MIke, Tony and Chris these are the guys that made that sound Chris suppying the high notes and NONE of them are here!!

  • @squizzy104 I have to agree.....The original line up, Mike, Chris, Tony and John -- they had it all. With no Chris on drums and high harmony, it's just not the same. BUT, it is not even possible to bring Chris and Tony back (RIP) and Mike has his own Searchers now. So....we will have to treasure the recordings of the originals, and be glad John and Frank are doing the best they can and Mike Pender's Searchers, as well! It's all good. :-)

  • @ChrisCurtisFan I DO like this version in fact the more I here it the more I like it...Its got an Eighteis twist to it. I am quite sure if they had have done this in the eighteis and went on Top Of The Pops (weekly pop show) to show it at the time like other groups of the sixties were doing mixes this would have been a big hit!! Keep Rockin! Ian xxx

  • One of the best studios I seen! ..........Tina still looks v good.

  • Spencer James has hair!

  • love it...i find the 80s prodcution great on the tune:) saw the searchers and they had a fab sound live too:)

  • @BeelMustaine

    Agreed!

  • Okay. First up, this is the 80's era, wherein the new wave of sounds have been invented, so we can't simply blame them for arranging some parts and making it sound 'in' with the 80's groove in the music. It still sounds good, not just better than their original version during the 60's. But anyway and any what, what do we care? This is still The Searchers, let's just think they made a remix of the song and all's good.

The Searchers rocks and will forever!

  • Nothing beats the orginal Searchers version of this song.

  • Who cares what version is better. That's Tina Ruland!!!

  • this is the new version 2010, but, in spanish. search "solo un momento vicentico"

  • one of my all time fave videos

  • Bollocks

  • Oh spare me. How could they ruin the song they made famous. Dire.

  • @BeelMustaine The Ramones version is "different". Better to some and not better to others. Music is art and is the eye of the beholder. The true definitive version is the Searchers hit version of 1963.

  • @dbailey62 To this i agree

  • @dbailey62 The Ramones version has a much more of a raw feeling to it, that's why I like it better. This one sounds good but to 80s for me great song though

  • Who wrote this songs, somebody said Bono????

    ed

    w w w eddy nu

  • fantastic band fantastic song John Inder aged 47

  • use the man?

  • Been a while since I posted [about 200,000 views ago] and would like some feedback on a conclusion I have come to. Watching a network live Maroon 5 song the other day , I was appauled. That's music? I literally could write that trash in 5 minutes. It has no feeling, soul, or musical harmonic flow. Not that all todays music is that bad, but OMG, that rubbish would have been tossed with the garbage in the 60's. How does this crap become popular? Your thoughts, I'll post mine later.

  • thanks to post this beutiful band love it ,and time went flay so fast great hit i look back it is hard to belive that it was long time ago and feel like yesterday never will be the same years like 60 and 70 the best time I miss it. now I"m 60 years old but I still enyoy this is great sound the best .

  • The Searchers were oringinally a 60s band so please get facts right. Yes they are still touring today and there is still 2 of the original band members in it. This is a vid made in Germany and I think the girl is VERY nice.

  • Pretty lousy .. compare it to the real Searchers sixties version of Needles.

They make it a dance tune and got rid of the great guitars. hurt me hurt me.

So smooth so blah. Smokey Robinson didn't write it.. Jack Neitsche and Sonny Bono co-wrote it.

  • @11xzxzxz Well, so far the vote is 532 to 40 so there are at least 39 others that don't like it either although you are a small minority. Don't fret 11xzxzxz, there are no plans to delete the original.

  • @dbailey62 Sure but if you go to The Searches they would have 1000 to 5. I don't like to be in the minority as if that means I am high brow or have better taste but so often that is how I feel. When Michael Jackson or Justine Beiber or Jack Johnson, mr derivative with bland songs and OK, a few OK or good ones - is loved over Neil Young or Marshall Crenshaw or Graham Parker or Eddie Money or Lloyd Cole , Phil Ochs, Bob Dylan etc . something is wrong and it's here to stay.

  • @dbailey62 Ya I understand where you're coming from. I'm quite impressed by the numbers that have actually come to this clip though. It's by far the most viewed Searchers video on the web.

  • SONNY BONO LIVES ! He wrote this and numerous other songs for people. He had a lot more talent than people gave him credit for.

  • an all time favourite song of mine thanks for posting

  • Save Water - Shower With The Searchers!

  • this is a very sweet song, so lovely, and touching from the heart. : )

  • Smokie Robinson, of course, one of America's greatest and most prolific composers-interpreters.

  • This is a killer song

  • ahahhaa fail!

  • Thanks for posting this because I love this song and this version is pretty good. Also, thanks for telling me who Smokie is. Actually, Smokie's version isn't too bad either.

  • Très bien!

  • Comment removed

  • Sonny Bono rocks!!

  • BAD. Smokie made this sing BEST. Smokie version is one and only.

  • @TheKalipse Yes, Smokie, obviously it has to be them. Smokie. Yup. BTW, who the hell are Smokie?

  • @dbailey62 I am with you, who in the hell is Smokie?

  • @kodifeeder I was being a bit of a jerk with that reply I must admit. They were a British band popular in the early 70's. I actually had heard of them. I think a version of them is still on the road today. Sorry about the snarkiness. I just couldn't contain myself at that mment in time!

  • Very Rarely is a remake as good as or better than the original...This one IS !!! Wonderful production and performance !!!

  • Very Rarely is a remake as good as or better than the original...This one IS !!! Wonderful production and performance !!!

  • Wow, a great tune from the 60s redone. The babe looks good too ;)

  • I think this version is at least as good as the original! The entry is much better in my opinion.

  • mike pender, john mcnally, tony jackson, and chris curtis ... will always be "THE SEARCHERS" to me. their sound was never matched no matter who replaced one another through the years. no matter their dislikes or dissagrements .... and they knew, and know it ..... deep down ..... too!

  • i grew up on this music but haven't heard it in years wow so powerful, and my tears roll excellent.

  • I must be gettin' old, cuz she looks w a y too young. lol

  • Written by Jack Nitzsche and the Sonny Bono, if memory serves.

    Great song!

  • The Best ever!

  • It's so emotional

  • I love this version, superb, Spencers voice is just great, and the girl Wow.

  • someone e mailed me wanting the Searchers cd i have, please let me know where

to send it.. free of charge. This video doesn't quite do the origional sound justice,

but i'm glad otheres younger can hear a neat band

  • 'loved the original but this is a ***fantastic remake***! Gave me chills.

  • I don't mind this version. Then again, I was more focused on the blonde chick than the song itself.

  • What a pair Spence and Tina made. Both Young with cute little dimples and (Hopefully) Great Lives before them. Glory Days indeed! God what a Woman like her can do to your Soul----------WOW!

  • DO DUPY !

  • Top!!

  • Especially strong memories spring from this song; it was much softer in the original form, but I like thie upbeat rendition. Good job...

  • Great hair, pretty girl.

Too bad the GRIT of the earlier version was lost in the studio.

    Great hair.

  • wow...the best version of needles and pins!!

  • Who's the blonde bimbo...I wonder how she got into the video....hehe

  • Tina Ruland-German actress/Playboy centerfold

  • i prefer the original 60 's song

  • The only original in this video is John McNally who you see at 1-27. The lead singer Frank Allen is almost an original, joining maybe 2 years after they starrted in the early 60's.

  • who are the originals members in this video

  • love the guitar solo!

  • Hi Frank,Russ in Cornwall,still here,mate,1970s,remember,Highpost country club,Salisbury,Wiltshire,got a different shirt now,ha,ha,ha,

  • One of the most awesome openings ever!

  • I've never in my life been more captivated by a female more than Tina. Words can't begin to describe the aura she creates in this video. I'll never forget her.

  • @maken410 I had no idea they were still together! Who is this beauty Tina?

  • Tina Ruland, German actress - google search for recent info

  • Love to see that lovely lady with them at Northwich Memorial Hall in April or am I only dreaming??

  • quelle jolie melodie !!!! merciiii !!

  • Sonny Bono wrote some great songs!

  • Dat was nog eens muziek om van weg te dromen, heerlijke song dit.

  • I agree with Maken and being almost the same age, we grew up with the best music of all time. I know every generation says that but the Beatles invasion changed music history forever bringing us the bands like the Searchers, Hollies, Zombies, Kinks and many many more. We were lucky. We are lucky. brownie

  • Damn straight.....the VERY best!!......

  • I agree. BTW, I totally understand if somebody doesn't particularly care for this more "modern" version of the song. I too much prefer the original

but I believe there is quality here as well.

I mean, look at the views. It has almost reached half a million. I'm stunned. Also, 4.5 stars from over 400 "raters".

    It's pretty cool!

    :)

    db

  • it was a magical age to be a teen so emotional i'm still stuck there but i dont care

  • Let me get something off my chest. At 60 yr old I've seen , heard, and performed more music than most of you. Music is something felt deep down in the soul that can take you to a high seldom reached in our day to day living. Lots of music does this and this version of needles and pins does it for me. Britney Spears singing "oh baby" does not.

  • At 55, not performed music but have an 'ear' this does it for me.

  • It was Bob Dylan in a not so recent interview that said he had no problem with copyright violations on downloading from the internet. Reason, the "modern" music wasn't worth crap so no one was stealing anything anyway.

  • I love it! Dylan said it all.

  • I am pushing 58 and grew up in music. Not BS'ing , on my Mom's side Lucy and George Fullerton (co-founder of Fender Guitar) were my aunt and uncle. We all lived in the same town with the Fender mfg plant. BTW Lucy Fullerton died in May 2009 and George two months later in July 2009. I was fortunate enought to know a great many musicians who had played in the late 50's on to the late 70's. I've always play'd in some group since I was 17. Just Bass.

  • I'm impressed. (Really)

  • @maken410 Well said !!

  • @maken410 OK, but seriously, If you were around back when this came out as I was and had a choice of which 45 to buy, which would it be.

This would not make the top 40. Sorry, I disagree. Taste is music is funny, but the original is so much better on several levels.

  • @maken410 Completely agree!! Music is a natural high... I saw the Serachers for the 26th time last Friday, I am 29 and I took my father who is 61. Fantastic band and still so so water tight!!!

  • @maken410 =Tina does have great clavicles. Cute dimples too. She's also about 45 with 2 kids now. C'est la Vie!

  • Are you guys kidding i grew up in the 80's.

    I think is a great 80's version of a great song.....FANTASTIC.....

  • Disco ? Tried to jazz up!! What are you guys smokin? One of the very few old songs that is better than the original. NO , let me say the only one that is better . Normally I'm turned off by artist that try to change the original sound but this one blew me away.

  • Luv the earrings!

  • Horrible. Original had an innovative guitar and was great. The stench of disco is washed all over this. Sonny Bono would be turning over in his grave.

  • I wouldn't say disco as much as I would say Europop.

  • Yeah call it whatever if it smells like a skunk...I say kill it first. I mean if I hadn't heard the original I guess this is OK but all of those who give me thumbs down probably don't know know the originals. Touchy people. The harmonies ruin this, and I like 80s synthesizers but not on this overproduced songs.

  • i agree totally- the originals were raw and genuine tis is like a bloated fish. Still the searchers are fab in whatever guise. they were hopoing for a hollies revival since by this time they shared the same producer. Also the big boss BS was interested in both bands.

    Now i hear there's a rap version

    back to basics i think

  • Good metaphor and you can stick pins in a overstuffed bloated fish. Yeah I had heard BS liked Hollies and but didn't know if the Searchers registered with him. After all this was a great almost ground-breaking song but it probably was far better than .. it helps if you can write your own songs.

  • In the eighties several old acts tried to jazz up an old hit of theirs. Like this one, none of them matched the original.

  • It wasn't intended to though. It was a contractual obligation recording. They had signed to do an album with a German label, Coconut Records but the label insisted on two rerecordings of old hits thus "Needles and Pins" and "Sweets for My Sweets" were two of the tracks on the "Hungry Hearts" album.

  • Thanks for the information. Appreciate it.

  • only 2 oriiginal members- dubious direction- great harmonies but a terrible video

  • great video thanks for posting.

  • gran banda inglesa de los 60's perteneciente a la gran invasion inglesa a eeuu de los 60's

    saludos desde PERU

  • paaaa, que increible que esta este video x dios, ojala este el tema igual igual con ese solo de guitarra y todo

  • my mum always has her old songs on in the car or something.and i've grown to like this so much that i've even put it on my ipod :) "i had to run away, and get down on my knees and prayyyy." what an amazing song.

  • damn, they are lagendary!

  • saw the searchers the other night

    they are stil class

    absolutely brilliant

  • ((Frank Allen)) Terrific video!!

  • FNATASTICO VIDEO!!

  • Sonny Bono and Jack Nitzsche wrote this tune and Jackie DeShannon was the first to record and make it a hit in 1963.

Always loved this tune by this group and was a fan of Jackie D. also.

  • Bless Sonny and Jack for penning this out. :)

  • little sad, heh, can U imagine The Beatles doin' somethin' like this with their 'I Wannna hold your hand'

  • Maybe they could have covered The Frog Chorus or Mary Had A Little Lamb to get some credibility ?

    LOL

  • well...they could try ;D lol

  • Que buena esta la mina!!!!

  • From Toronto to San Francisco, thanks for the great videos db !

    Gary

  • great song. it takes me back to better days.

  • ah its all about the 64 version best.:D

  • Can't beat the oldies.

  • I seen them live with the Mersey Beats and the Dakotas , It was amazing! :D

  • Very cathy, some kind of Evergreeen song

  • Not bad,but I like the original much more.

  • who sings the original

  • It's a Sonny Bono song, but i guess that Jackie Deshannon was the first to sing this song.

By the way, i don't really like this version, but...

    Cheerz from Argentina

  • Thanks for this video. It is a great update of the original '64 song

  • What type of headless guitar is the singer using?

  • Great melody ( courtesy of Jack Nitzche ) and really wonderful lyrics written by Sonny Bono.

  • This song was written by Sonny Bono back before he became a singer.

  • Some would say Sonny never really became a singer. ;) Co-written only, with Jack Nitzche.

  • I love the song but the shower scene is quite odd

  • i'm sorry searcher's fans. but pete is god

  • my god she is too much beautifull!!!!!

  • very nice..

    TY Rob..

  • nice

  • Ha ha i play footy with this guy john mc he must be nearly 65! i hope he plays guitar better than he does football.....

  • looks better unstretched.

  • I remember this great old song and the Jackie DeShannon version too, love it!!!

  • i saw her 2day, i saw her face...it was a face i loved,,, :)

  • i like this song. :)

  • That is a Major babe !

  • I watched a documentary about Sonny and Cher today. I was surprised to learn that Sonny Bono co-wrote Needles and Pins, one of my favorite 60's rock songs.

  • Yep,he sure did.

  • MUCH better than Mike Pender - this is the REAL Searchers while Mike (although a good artist) is still trying to use his time in The Searchers for his benefit. Why did he quit since he has nothing new to present? At the same time the REAL Searchers are presenting a great show with new songs as well as the oldies.

  • does anyone know where i can find Pete Doherty doing a version besides on part six of "who the fuck is pete doherty"

  • Would you like to hear serbian cover version?

    Just search on youtube:

    Vampiri Ona ili ja

  • Yes, I would!

  • please check out pete's (who the fuck is pete doherty (part 6)

  • Tina Ruland is worth the trip.

  • Great song, thanks for posting!

  • Needles and Pins" is a song by Jack Nitzsche and Sonny Bono, originally recorded by Jackie DeShannon.

  • And thus they became an 80s pop band. I prefer the older version!

  • i wonder that girl's name

    dam she is beautiful

  • Tina Rowland ;)

  • I mean the song version, not the girl!

  • Forget which version is what...that girl on the video is HOT!!!

  • NEEDLES AND PINS. (Jack Nitzsche / Sonny Bono)
