  • Perfect.....

  • Perfect.....

  • I think this version of this song is the apotheosis of how cerebral rock and roll can be.

  • The ALPHA and the OMEGA . . . .

  • When I think about how this song should be done I always come back to this version. It is my favorite out of all of the ones out there.

  • They were not happy being "Live in Texas." But, my God, for what they were it dosen't get much better.. Straight rythm with energy and chappy asides. Too good.

  • Sterling Morrison is playing some really great rhythym guitar on this tune

  • I can relax and know my kids can hear this too if they want to. This song, this album will be around forever

  • D / C / Gm / Am

Now THAT'S how guitar chords are meant to be played.

  • Hypnotic!! Amazing song!

  • Sounds like total shit. Might be the best thing I've ever heard.

  • i'm gonna fly from side to side...

  • One of the greatest rhythm guitar performances ever. Lou should teach a master class.

  • @problem49 so should sterling

    brilliant

  • This song is not long enough it should be at least an hour long. Just love it...

  • This guitar is awsome in this live version, almost better then the studio version I would say!

  • love the demented fairground wurlitzer. This would sound great loud in church.

  • @jaguaret done it! amazing sound.church organ has the range man.ps i knackered the big pipe organ at my old grammer school doing this number at full whack but it was worth it.

  • Guess who's gonna have a tight skate session tomorrow with this song sounding loudly on my earphones.

  • @KraYarK The first time I listened to this it made me think of the skating rink at Jones Beach.

  • Anybody know what keyboard Doug Yule was playing?

  • @dan0311 yes i do

  • @dan0311 yes i do.actualy a c5 with a leslie tremeloe and a few tweaks to the electro rotor.

  • totally fuckin' incredible.... xxx

  • Think its fun listening to? Imagine how much fun they had playin it.

  • This is my favorite live song ever. Period.

  • This is my favourite live song ever. Period.

  • @Elbowdude

The velevts, what goes on 1969.....agreed!

  • God this so good......

  • Lou Reed deserved his wages that night.

  • ᶠᶸᶜᵏᵧₒᵤ

  • Driving `rushing on my run' rhythm guitar on nearly every cut keeps these platters spinning.

Thanks for posting for those who are only now cueing up.

  • nico's ass..................???

  • .,. Doug Yule can´t make up for Cale!.

  • I think the great thing about the Velvet Underground is that while other influential bands have become almost comical, and dated, the velvet underground have kept their very indie-ish vibe. They're still avant-garde, rather than slipping through the cracks into being just another old rock band.

  • A master class in rhythm guitar if ever there was one. I could listen to this forever.

  • keyboards are great!!...love this band

  • Original still perpetuates tracers from all the hallucogenics my '70's associates imbibed...

  • Rhythm guitar in this version is frantic. Love it !!

  • @thatfingio ive played this number and it fucks your wrist after ten minutes, but its worth it

  • Rhythm guitar in this version is frantic. Love it !!

  • exquisite live performance. this "dirty" sound is very rarely that good.

  • Great!Great!!Great!!!

  • jim kerrs electro version is pretty neat if you come from an electro background

but dont try to compare both

    take each on own merit

  • Contrary to popular belief, the ass in that picture actually belongs to Lou Reed.

  • Awesome!

  • @astroboirap but its one of rocks greatest grooves! it could go on all day for me!!!

  • @seanreillyireland You nailed it brother ! It's like bacon and cabbage ! It just turns me into a savage ! Thanks my friend for your thoughtfulness. Z

  • The Velvets. 9 minutes of perfection. Matchless. they feature in my book 'Yeah Baby' and yes, rock n roll saved my life, as you will see if you read it. And yes, Crazy Arthur Brown really is my dad.

    Julian Wolfendale

  • When the 60s crashed headlong into a Bach fugue... Quite probably the best piece of live music ever recorded in the history of the world..... Fab!

  • Best version of this song, no doubt. Way better than the studio version.

  • I think that's Cale on organ, not Yule. I think this recording pre-dates the other tracks on this album. But I could be wrong...

  • Doug Yule was good, but no replacement for John Cale. Just sayin'...

  • This is one good reason why 'The VU' was and is the most influential band in rock history. Listen to the rest of the album and you know why it's a closed case.

  • wow! this live version really amazed me!

  • Totally incredible Classic album ... recall the originally double vinyl lp took me into another realm... wish I still had it...

Best version of 'Lisa Says' imo on this one ... would love to hear that cut now.

  • Extremely impressive. I've got fucking unexpected goosebumps .

  • the best version in my opinion! I wish it would go forever and ever...

  • best V.U. tune!!!!

  • this is the best album live of velvet!!!!! chears!!!!!

  • Amazing, incredible, unbelievable; there arent enough superlatives to describe this song:)

    Thanks Lou.

  • @Utah165

  • Amazing song and this live version notches it up ten fold. The Velvet Underground are the most influental band for what came after.

  • Awesome!!!!!

  • man that organ needs turning up sister ray style! they suffer musically without john cale i think, its still a great version though, slightly groovier

  • fantastic

  • There are about 30 people or fewer in the audience. Recorded live in Texas. Been a Velvets fan (particularly Reed) since 1968 (I was a very precocious 11 year old. Listen to "Rock and Roll" and you'll understand.) God, I love this stuff.

  • @WillIngram08 , was your life saved by Rock and Roll, too? :)

  • @WaldoJeffers25 More than once, my friend! Twin brothers of differrent mothers.

  • @WaldoJeffers25 I like you name Waldo but aren't you dead?

  • @WillIngram08 I read somewhere that there were a lot more people in the audiance, but they had the mics set up in a way where it only sounded like there were a few.

  • @WillIngram08 Me too; grew up listening to this stuff almost first hand; I was born in 1966 with a father who had great taste in music; Velvets,Dylan, Zappa, Beatles, Ry Cooder, Stones, all were staples in our house:) So I got into this stuff pretty early on; Lets hear it for precocious 11 year olds with daddys with a great musical ear:)

  • Respond to this video... 0 dislikes; now that speaks volumes doesnt it?

  • deffo in my top 5 and I've loved it for 25 years! inspired the wedding present, inspirals etc etc etc

  • ace tune. can see where peace frog originates.

  • Love it

  • ah thats fuckin fantastic! these guys are jammin!

    Velvet's the shit..love em

  • Absolutely stunning performance. What would it have been like to be in the audience? If you want an even more intense experience try listening with headphones ... full on!!!

  • Wow wow wow wow wow! I'm only halfway through the song and I LOVE this organ solo! So much energy!

bma1986 is totally right about the 'peel slowly and see' version too.

  • energizes like no other. btw, whats the story behind the album cover? looool

  • this song is amazing. my mind is blown

  • Pavement did an amazing version of this on their BTC tour. Not to knock the original but they did it quite well. Let me know if you want the version. Shoot me a message and I'll send it to ya! Cheers! :)

  • I hereby declare this as the best song ever!!!!!! Sorry for the !, but I've loved, loved, loved this song for 17 years. That's something, for sure. Yeah, VU (!)

  • you can't get more intense than this.

  • Breathtaking! A stunning version of one my favourite VU songs.

  • Yeah, I thought it was in Dallas too.

  • i agree. top stuff. boss album too.

  • Best version of this ever

  • Yes, wow!!

  • What a song !

  • One of the greatest rhythm guitar performances ever. Lou was totally showing off and we are all richer for the experience.

  • This is pretty great, but have you heard their live version from the "Peei Slowly and See" boxset? Intense; the organ solo is a screaming and and barely restrained guitar.

  • so amazing . almost religious. the way the organ by yule and guitar by reed weave in and out of each other. krieger and manzarek were surely listening to the velvet underground.

  • this song is very cleansing to me. the keyboards are part carnival and part church.

  • @mebtoe1

I think Yule deserves a lot of credit for his playing (of various instruments) and singing on LOADED.

  • genial-

  • i thought this was recorded in dallas?

  • it was yule rather than cale on organ, would have been interesting to hear how cale would've played on this one

  • Waldo and Sterling, you can lick my decals any time (pricoonin yoo arr nod dad)!

  • Thanks for posting this version, not heard it for a very long time and still as great as ever!

  • My fave version-just one gem amongst many on this superb LP. A testament to how good live albums can be, right up there with "Stupidity" by Doctor Feelgood.

  • yep, the keys and the guitar ambling along in the middle make it absolutely brill

  • oh so good!

  • What a fucking superb jam!

  • I agree

  • stirring solo!!5/5!!!

  • However, I must say that the guitar solo on the studio version of this song is one .of the greatest ever

  • Admit! Very much overdubbed though. Therefore not to be reproduced live I guess...

  • The best! I saw them on this tour at the Whiskey. I always thought keyboards were at least as important to the Velvets as the guitars--this song and "Sister Ray"

(my all-time favorite recording) being the prime examples; the live recordings of "Sister Ray" without keyboards are kind of boring. No white noise! To me, this performance makes anyone think they could do it--until they try. This is what rock and roll is all about, doing the ordinary extraordinarily well.

  • Listen to the whole thing! :)
