Since you all seem to be so knowledgeable about gymnastics and the subject at hand, you all clearly know that during Young's infamous routine, his start value was incorrectly calculated by one tenth. You then must also know that his routine had 4 hold moves which was a violation and two tenth deduction. However, the judges missed that as well. If it were taken into account, he shouldn't have even earned a bronze. He's an amazing gymnast regardless, but if you want to nitpick, know the facts.
Not only did they put a request in immediately after the Parallel Bar competition, Young had 4 holds in his routine. This would result in a 0.2 deduction and he wouldn't have even gotten 3rd. Paul won hands down. There is no controversy.
@xxcc85xx I think that you should read the FIG rules and regulations on the subject of contesting a score. It clearly states, score protests must be filed immediately, during the actual competition, to be considered. So if all this was so important to Tae-Young and his coaches, then why the hell were they so lazy and didn't even notice the SV posted at the beginning of the meet. So let it go, plus I bet he now knows what Paul was going through after that HUGE screw up in 08.
@Christine2188 They did file the complaint immediately. FIG just chose to ignore them and continued with the ceremony. The president of the FIG also texted that the Korean was the "true winner."
@riderstein If that's the case then yeah it really sucks, to have that happen and then to have it go down the way it did. It seems like there will never be an Olympics that doesn't have some kind of drama to go along with it.
no one was robbed of gold. Both Korean gymnasts had a big deduction not taken from then on P bars. Its called repetition and it can cost them up to 8 tenths of a point (at that time). So if they want their routines rejudged theyre going to lose a lot more than they'll gain
Well, I think there are more than the judges invovled. I mean, don't you think his coach or even him should have realised straight away that there was something wrong with the mark ? I mean, even at a low level the coach always chekout the mark and make a reclamation before, not after the competition...
whether or not the judges were correct, its an fig rule any disagreements in start value must be brought up before the rotation ends, and Yangs coach did not do this. If he did, he may have one the gold, but he didnt follow directions, and ended up in third
The korean gymnast yang tae young publicly stated that he wanted to break his skull open when he sees him at the olympics. And Of course, the coward paul hamm the closet homosexual with girly voice magically pulled himself out of the olympics, citing an injury! Were you afraid of another "test", paul? That's okay paul, both you and your faggy brother would have been destroyed by Yang wei anyways. You're a first class loser and all around thief!
@XXCCC85XX come on now, you don't really expect fair play and honesty from americans, do you? they're americans, remember? they are entitle to win every competition! if you can't beat em', just cheat, bribe, steal .. that's the traditional of the american sprit! alexei nemov also got robbed out of gold medal. his brother fell backwards and SAT DOWN, and the judges awarded him the gold medal! what a fucking joke!!!
i watched youngs p bars routine and he did deserve a deduction for having to many holds and paul should have one it anyway i mean come on he came back all the way from being buried in twelfth place after vault
No they didn't, the IOC was trying to cover up their mistakes by punishing Hamm. I have watched the routine from the 04 p-bars and he does hold 4 times, one too many, which is an automatic .2 deduction. Even if you add the .1 that the judges missed, that .2 deduction actually would have knocked him off the podium all together.
Paul was the right winner. If the judges were paying attention to Young p-bar routine they would see he had 4 holds, and you can only do 3. That would have been a deduction anyway(the judges did not catch that)!!!
