After watching this and the Unsolved Mysteries, I believe she killed herself unintentionally. I have worked in a mental hospital for years and trust me, most of my co-workers and nurses have been patients once themselves. I think she did struggle with her mental health as I have seen people with cases such as hers multiple times. Sadly, when people struggle with their mental health, they are capable of anything & sometimes they make a mistake & it ultimately results in the loss of their life.
I have a theory: The stalker/harassment incidents were a result of her mental illness & a disorder she must have had. There are too many holes in her stories & too much sensationalism going on here & the fact that the police found ZERO evidence of any wrong doing is very suspicious.
Now that said, I have a theory that a bitter police officer, sick & tired of having to babysit her, killed her. Itd be very hard to drug up & hogtie yourself & leave NO SIGN of self injection at the scene
The private investigator wants a "rational explanation." Hey, how about the fact she was severely mentally ill? That good enough? It's obvious this woman was sick.
The stalker theory absolutely makes no sense. The police spent MILLIONS of dollars on this case and found zero evidence of a stalker. Zip, nada. They staked her house out from all angles for weeks on end. Nothing.
very bizarre...there is a story on unsolved mysteries...the bizarre thing is she was a nurse...makes u wonder her mental health when she was dealing with patients...RIP
@primenemisis then why would he be insisting it was murder? If he killed her, he would have lied about her state of mind and said that he thought it was suicide. Then there would be no murderer to look for and he'd be safe, case closed.
I have no idea why you'd even say that. This is real life, not a cop show.
I just started to read this book. You may have heard about Munchausen Syndrome By Proxy which was first diagnosed in 1951. Cindy worked in a Psychiatric Hospital where she would have heard of this medical phenomenon. Perhaps she made up her own version? Instead of creating attention for a child, she created all that crazy stuff for the benefit of herself? When she realized that no one would believe her, she commmitted suicide (as she said she would do eventually while in hospital?). Strange.
No. I am VERY well versed In Munchausen syndrome. By proxy is the form where a parent (almost exclusively the mother),intentionally injures or poisons her child, just enough to get the medical attention for her child and herself she so desperately seeks. Munchausen disease was named after it's "creator",Baron von Munchausen. The "regular" form,if you will,is when one does these things to themselves.
Cindy James in no way fits that description. Munchausen pateints are almost always laymen, and self-taught medical afficiandos, not actual medical professionals. They also do not set fires to their own home,or ever come close to injuring themself to the point of death. It's always a "controlled environment" if you will.
I don't know what it would be called, but this sounds a lot like the "Munchausen Syndrome By Proxy" - but instead of hurting one's own child for attention, they hurt themself? She did work in a Psychiatric Hospital, Munchausen was first diagnosed in 1951, maybe she decided to create a new syndrome???
(I am just beginning to read the book about this case).
There is something very creepy about this case. I watched another video about this, and it had the threatening message. When I heard that message I got chills all the way up my spine.
Poor woman. I red Neal hall's book about this case and Cindy James seem's like the most caring beautiful kind woman you could ever meet. My heart goes out to her and her family. Rest in peace Cindy James June 12th 1944-june 8 1989
OMG.. i read the novel on this murder..(yep i said murder)..this lady was a nurse so i`ll think she is a loving caring person...so i`m thinking she held back info. cuz the killer was threatening to kill her family so she jus took the pain and abuse ....
Through out the six years and seven mounths of Cindy James harasment the police never had a suspect a figer print a sighting a sketch a blood sample or anything like that, and to this day they have absolutley no leeds at all. That's the reason for her credibility.
@davidtaylor755 the argument of those who believe she was murdered is that they police simply didn't look properly - and you can't find anything if you don't look. They may have decided from the start that she was doing all those things herself, and therefore their investigation wasn't as thorough as it should have been.
I've been fascinated by this case for years. I don't know what happened, but it IS possible she killed herself. Look into the cases of Memphis coroner O.C. Smith, housewife Ruth Finley, or Australia's "Mars and Venus" case to understand how.
Yes, I was thinking of that one too - Facticious Disorder. The show's producers demonstated how he could have cuffed himself up like that.
Someone could have killed Cindy, sure, but she also may have been killed by an alternate of hers (multiple personality disorder.) It seems she was also trying to get attention from her ex-husband.
I don't know, but my gut feeling is that she did it to herself.
I don't buy the cindy did this herself theory. I believe someone else was definitely in on this with her. That would explain the phone calls they couldn't trace. I always wondered if this was connected to somebody in her job someone who knew about injecting morphine. Somebody killed this woman.
thats what i say. how could she hurt herself? Why would she do that? i don't think she killed herself. some one killed her. i don't care what they say. she was killed and they don't have the anwser so their saying she killed herself. If she killed herself why did she do it?
"thats what i say. how could she hurt herself? Why would she do that?"
Mentally ill people are very capable of harming themselves, and many of them do just that. If you read the facts on the case and watch the shows that were produced about her, none of the facts add up. You cannot rule out that she just might have done this to herself. I don't believe that she did, but just because they don't have the answer doesn't mean they are trying to make it look like Cindy did it.
They closed that case up all nice and neat by using the excuse that she was mentally ill and made bogus reports in the past.
I never knew mental illness somehow also allowed someone to become a contortionist.
