  • I saw a documentary many years ago (produced in Japan or HK, I forget) about Mongolian horses. The secret lies on how the horses positioned their feet when running, which makes them less tired, and explains their high mobility to cover the vast area of land. The mobility also created an element of surprise for the unfamiliar foes.

Now I'd guess the Siberian wind, the Gobi heat, and the uncultivable land made these horses quite robust and hardy in difficult terrains.

  • The mongolians are mongolics !!!!

  • The people laying down in this actually dead?

  • @siarrahbabey14 Yes, they really die. It's the most expensive show in the world because they pay out so much to the families who die during the show.

  • @lordbiggus Then shouldn't the show be illegal if people are DYING in it?

  • whats the music?

  • @watsonmj123 just some crappy youtube music. I had some epic battle music but youtube didn't like it.

  • LMFAO!!!!!! I watched this with someone and the other person asked, "Is this real footage of what happened?"

Yeah Ted, they had digital camcorders in Mongolia about 1000 years ago.

  • @andyrooney12 haha, classic.

  • Why the horses so amall

  • Look closely, you'll see how clear the sky is in that area, compare it to LA's Smog... I understand that what i said has nothing related to the video clip.

  • It seems that the Mongolian horse was highly mobile. I was searching for the huge European warhorse.

  • apperntly the mongols preferd their own small horses, they must have had accses to alot of diffrent breeds when conquring the world. Still they never seemed to be interseded in other horse breeds. And their horses must have performed pretty well as one of the most used tactic was the feit retreat. Against heavy armoured knights it might not be so hard. But the islamic world used much lighter cavalry.

  • @Pohjanpoika13 erm Mongolians are not Islamic and light chivalry using has nothing to do with religion..its the nomads fighting skill..high speed and heavy armor will not match ...^_^

  • @kelRapunzel You dont know much english i guess. You really dont make sense to me. When did I say that religion had anything to do with cavalry? When did I say that the mongols were musilms? I only said that the mongols had accses to many other horsebreeds and maybe the best ones in the conqest of the islamic countries and still they choosed to keep their own horses. I really dont know what u are trying to say

  • @kelRapunzel i may misinterpret ". but the islamic world used much lighter cavalry."sentence ..

    sorry

  • @kelRapunzel I was talking about the choise of horses, that In their conquest in the islamic world for example the todays iran, Iraq, Syria , part of Turkey. They should have acces to arabfullbloods but still they did not seem very interested. Arabs horses have pretty similar qualities and are also pretty small.

  • @Pohjanpoika13 I am really sorry i was so drifted by stunning music and horses ..and thank you for information :)

  • @kelRapunzel Okey

  • Yeah, it is a shock to a lot of people that the Mongol horses are that small. The thing with those horses is that they're supposed to be able to trot for a long, long time.

  • I'm sorry, but this was ADORABLE!!! Big men on little ponies hahaha! If I were a chinaman watching these GAWDAM MONGOWIANS TEARIN DOWN MY CITY WALL I would've cried from the cuteness!!!

  • wait some of those horses were laying down.

my girlfriend told me u can train horses to do that.

    or were they sincerely hurt?

  • tht looked wrong, looked like massive men on small ponys, ha ha

  • I wish I coul ride a horse like that

  • This is so COOL. These small horses can maneuver shorty and good at long run.

  • the people are too big for some of those horses

  • Awesome ! Masters of the Mongolian terrain. Formidable foes indeed.

  • @ludgerify Nothing a line of riflemen can't handle.

  • Awesome display of hit and run.

  • Lordbiggus:

Hit and run tactic. Mongolian Horse Archers were the best. Unless they're outnumbered 3-1, expect an ass-kicking.

  • Just wondering if the "casulaties" were play-acting or not?

  • look at their weapons they are misslile troops hit and run, no heavy horse can catch them theyl die chasing

  • cant*

  • the horses look really small compared to some other breeds

  • horses were pony sized till late medeival era ..and btw fro skirmishing small horses are better,

  • kind of funny looking, grown men on kids ponies

  • @boomerlesterok . However funny-looking you may find them, they wiped away almost every foe they came up against (and really only failed militarily when they tried to adapt to amphibious operatons; Japan & Indonesia)

  • I cant tell the diffrence of each sides... I can clearly see Ghenghis Khan's Yak Banner.... but thats about it...

  • that was cool :)

  • well these ponies you call are short but strong. why? cuz their ancestors had been conquering the world. so after rides for long distance and gettign in battles, the horses became strong but short.

  • uhm no...the horses are small and sturdy because they are from the mongol home land where over millenia of ages the horses had to feed on small pastures and traverse rough terrain which is harder for large animals who need alot of continious food. This made them sturdy and compact to begin with for the mongol horse riders. Ofcourse you can pick the cream of the crop from those and continoue on but that hardly reall impacts the animal.

  • its awesome they do the organized squadron of a few riders. Its about moving in ,shoot arrows, move out! flank the enemy! shoot! charge! make the enemy disperse. Then take em out one by one.

  • Ponies & midgets! Looks like a fun day out.

  • Ehm, how did they make the horses really look dead? :(

  • Aren't Mongolian riders supposed to be one of best in the world?

  • everyone says that about someone

  • yes they were and they still are

  • @lordbiggus Hmm, didn't work for them very well when they tried to invade Japan. Twice.

  • @lordbiggus Watching these guys ride around, I'd certainly say so.

  • the hell is this?.. I was looking at Oblivion stuff than this poped up :O

  • In battle the best horse is a smaller horse.

  • in frontal charge the bigger is better.. but Mongols relied on different tactic so the horses are smaller and faster because asian races are smaller than european.

  • They look like large goats. Weird.

  • ew those ponies are so on their forehand i'd hate to ride them

  • once upon a time mongols ruled the world with those ponies,man....

  • @HanHentii

isn't that amazing, Mongs really can do anything

  • @HanHentii, right on target, these funny looking horses mastered the world from Asia to Europe.

  • @56LC horses were small this size most of cavalry history spare last 200 -400 years, they were donkey sized in assyrian times thsoe who made first use of cavalry as chariots cos they couldnt carry weight of men.

  • i no but you would just need to get them a bit more between the leg and hand and they would be fine. anyway the are doing a battle they dnt really need to be in a showjumping canter do they????????

  • I like the video and the music! horses and armor were the best! <3

  • they are shetlands/miniture horses

  • nein too big

  • These are mongolian horses, 130cm mane.

Shetlands are 100cm miniature below 100cm

  • @rossinired Are you stupid? are you saying that the mongols uses shetland ponies? They are like a dwarf horse with short legs that only children can ride them. And Shetlands ponies comes pretty much as far from Mongolia as u can come,

  • but this is a film or vid ???

  • This is a video.

  • Thanks my friend! It is really cool! They do it hard. It really looks like a battlefield. Armors,wepons....everything so realistic.I really wish to go there! Maybe next summer. Thanks again!

  • @danieleriver whats the difference??

  • I really like this video, nice piece of cinematography. Is it part of a documentary or just a representation of a battle fought by mongol tribes? Anyway it's cool

  • Thanks. It's not part of documentary, just some footage I shot while visiting Mongolia. Yeh, it's a Chinggis Khan battle arrangement. It was hard to film because the action was quite far away from the stands.

  • I did shoot a lot more in Mongolia, so maybe I will put up a montage of all sorts of cultural stuff just to show people a brief overview of what the country is like.

  • Can't wait to see more, and by the looks of it the next footage will be as good or even better than this one :)) i already watched it 30 times going on 31 :)) Good luck.

  • @lordbiggus please do

  • is it me or do those horses look a little small?

  • No, the Mongolian horse is actually a small but hardy horse breed.

  • yeah they are small =) but it's the Mongolian horse i would imagine, they're a little smaller, and they probably used those horses to make it as accurate as possible. =)

  • truly, they look like giants in the saddle!

  • These are what horses looked like before the European and Persian breeding programs created new breeds such as the massive viscious European warhorses and the fast nimble persian horses

  • What? What's wrong with ponies? Fast as hell and agile...(and You can be sure to get a parking-spot in every major city throughout the Ural...;)

  • are these ponies??

  • As I rem from History the Mongels horse archers were the most fears as they could charge into an area do the cirlce of fire so they were hard to fire back at and then leg it, often inflicting quite a lot of casualties but taking few

although the the european as I rem were very wery of the horse archers and often had their own archers spread out to counter which left them open to enemy cavarly

This is when wars were fought using brains and bravery not sneaky IDE's and air support

  • not to be too "brainy" but it's spelled IED...

  • I agree, I miss those days when the world was young and anything one could dream of could actually come to pass. One could potentially ride a horse from one end of the continental Euro-Asian world to the other side of it. We have grown spoiled and lazy by modern civilization.

  • You miss those days, eh? You must be damn old. Jokes a side I think I get what you mean, but I do disagree. Dreams are different and it might be easier to seeing some dreams come true in our age and time. And you can still ride a horse across the world.

  • Yeah, right. The world have changed too much since then. Too many people depend on civilization now. The days when Nomads crossed continents on horseback are gone for good.

  • I totally agree. Life was more adventurous and epic when you have to used horses or huge sailing boat to traverse atlantic. When a tailor made your clothes and a cabinetmaker made your furnitures. Beatiful. Now its speed, money, and nonsense.

  • When the oil runs out and modern civilization self destroys we might get back to some of it.

  • it wasnt as simple as that I believe

  • the mongols were light cavalry and always caught the european armies who fought rather static battles,,,harass harass surround then go in for the kill..at least as far as i remember it

  • normally 20 thousands or less mongols surrond 100 thousands europeans...

  • danpit a Quarter Horse is a sprint Horse lol

  • The Light Calvary would Harass, and perform a Feint, drawing Heavier troops to take a Rain of Missie fire from Mounted units. Then the Heavy Calvary does the Smashing!

  • they might be small but they can carry a rider at a gallop marathon distances try that on your quater horse

  • I didn't realize they rode those cute little horses

  • i know the mongols were powerful but i dont understand why, not trying to be offensive but hey have tiny horses, they arnt the biggest of men, and their weaponry does not seem to be very powerful

  • At the time other armies were not fighting on horse back. Whereas mongolian armies were experts and could ride flat out standing up, whilst firing a bow and arrow. Combine that advantage with large numbers of men (and horses) and you a powerful rampaging army.

  • Discipline, battlefield communication, and a speed of march that allowed them to pick their battlefields are among the reasons why they were so effective.

You are right though, the little ponies shown here were not capable of carrying a fully armored rider in close combat - heavy cavalry rode larger horses.

  • yeah but they still couldnt get into europe ;) HAHAHAHA!!!! no one ever did

  • Depends how you define Europe, they destroyed Kieven Rus', then one of the most advanced areas in Europe and took parts of Poland. The Mameluks (Egyptians) were some of the only troops who managed to defeat them.

  • cruel, barbaric, majestic, not giving a shit if they kill 1 or 1 billion people, not giving a shit about their own safety, not giving a shit if they completely erase europe from the face of this planet, not giving a shit about how many civilizations they destroy or how many of their own people die but still great and so powerful that simple peasants created entire nations, and with the greatest warriors and generals on this planet, europe is unique it always was and it always will be ;)

  • I am a "europeanist" but not at the expense of the historical record. Malaparte once said that the Volga also rises in Europe - I'd say that Europe rose on the banks of the Nile and the Euphrates and along the coasts of Crete and southern Greece. Unique? Definitely. Multicultural? Always. I feel that the course of evolution of European culture has ultimately allowed for great freedom; "europeans" were even bound to turn from colonialsm and did in fact do so. But they also erred and often.

  • Genghis Khan was an enlightened ruler, united warring tribal factions, brought numerous intellectuals into his court; levied tribute but left the conquered their own lives and cultures--his own was absorbed by them. He wasn't oriental: one historian described him as chestnut haired.turquoise eyed, tall European looking. He and Atttila were probably descendants of the first horsemen who went west into Eire and East into Siberia. Graves of red-haired Caucasians found in China are of this group.

  • Horses are the little mongol ponies, same type Gengis Kahn and Kublai Kahn mounted warriors used eight centuries ago. This is a reenactment obviously in Mongolia.

  • i think thats what the discript says??

  • The horses kinda look like icelandics maybe ..

    cool vid

  • same kinda things almost

  • EPIC CAVALRY CHARGE

  • this is cool. does any one know what type of horses they are??

  • Small horses!

  • Thats awesome

  • Thanks!

  • we are best warrior in the world.I'm proud.

  • egyptians defeated ghangis khan

  • Great warrior!!!!

  • there is only two words for this... EPIC WIN!!!

  • ponies?

  • Great soundtrack.

I'd love to be around for the next event. Need another camera? heh heh

  • Thanks! SURE! Next time I plan to go to mongolia, I'll flick you an email!

  • is this in mongalia ????

  • yES, IT IS.

  • heh, nice carriage

would have been better though if you drilled the horses to form small maneuverable blocks of 10 which expanded into a line when orderred to charge and perhaps drilled all the horsement to form long lines and charge. This is dangerous though without sufficient training.
