In order for any form of animal exploitation to be okay it must be justified:
So ask yourself this:
1. Is the life of the animal in case X of captivity better, equal or worse than their life in the wild. If it is better or equal it justified (free-range farming perhaps)
2. But if it is worse, unless it brings to humans needs that cancels out their suffering and humans have no other option it is justified (medical animal testing) but what about the rest? how can factory farming be justified?

I dont agree with alot of the practices, but that doesnt mean Im going to stop eating meat. Plants are living things too, just because they dont scream as you chew them doesnt mean youre not killing them just the same. If you dont want to eat meat, fine. Most of these animals wouldn't exist, in the form they are in, if it weren't for humans. They would die off in a couple generations, since most can't even breed on their own.
As for job loss -- MANY, MANY of these places run off of illegal immigrant and temp labor. Lots of the jobs "we'd" be losing would be jobs that are only filled by illegal immigrants.
